Lanzhou, March 21 (Xinhua) — As part of the Belt and Road Initiative, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has become an important symbol of people-to-people exchanges between China and Central Asian countries. As one of the origins of TCM culture and a key hub along the ancient Silk Road, Gansu Province in northwest China has attracted many young people from Central Asian countries to study TCM.

Since Gansu University of Chinese Medicine began accepting large groups of international students in 2015, it has welcomed over 300 students from more than 10 countries, including Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, at all levels of higher education: undergraduate, graduate and doctoral.

A 27-year-old student from Turkmenistan named Humay is continuing her master's degree after receiving a bachelor's degree in TCM from the aforementioned university. She is studying acupuncture and tuina (manual therapy) in depth.

Humai said that TCM helped alleviate the cervical pain her parents had suffered from for a long time, unlike other treatments that had failed to produce the desired results. It was this personal experience that convinced her to devote herself to studying traditional Chinese medicine.

In her clinical practice, Humai has witnessed cases of facial paralysis and lumbar disc herniation treated with TCM. In her hometown, such conditions were typically considered surgical interventions. She said traditional Chinese medicine treatments are moderate but effective, adding that she wants to bring TCM techniques and its concept of preventative treatment to her homeland.

Humai also stated that there is a shortage of resources and services in the field of traditional Chinese medicine in Turkmenistan, and that she hopes to promote it through her efforts. Every time she visits home, she provides acupuncture sessions to her relatives and friends, and this year she plans to bring her mother, who suffers from a herniated lumbar disc, to Gansu Province for TCM treatment, she said.

A young man from Tajikistan, Bakhtiyori Sanginzoda, will soon complete his undergraduate studies at Gansu University of Chinese Medicine. Initially, he knew almost nothing about the body's acupuncture points, but today he can accurately and confidently insert needles, comfortably treat common ailments such as neck, shoulder, lower back, and leg pain, and also develop treatment plans and wellness programs.

Bakhtiyori Sanginzoda always carries a dictionary of ancient Chinese with him to carefully study ancient works on traditional Chinese medicine. He believes that only through a deep understanding of Chinese history and culture and a good command of the ancient Chinese language can one truly understand the essence of TCM.

He stated that traditional Chinese medicine is very popular in Tajikistan, expressing hope that he will become an “ambassador” spreading the culture of TCM.

Traditional Chinese medicine's concepts of life and health are finding a broad response in the international community, said Liang Zhaoguang, secretary of the Party Committee of Gansu University of Chinese Medicine, noting that such international students are not only witnesses to this resonance but also its disseminators, bringing wisdom and strength to the construction of a community with a shared future for humanity in the field of healthcare.

BEIJING, March 21 (Xinhua) — Chinese authorities have strengthened regulations on content labeling on short video platforms, aiming to resolve inconsistencies in labeling standards and curb the spread of unlabeled fictional, staged, and artificial intelligence-generated content, the Office of the Central Cyberspace Commission said.

The agency has instructed platform operators to implement standardized labeling methods. Over the past month, six major short video platforms have removed over 37,000 short videos containing staged scenes and other violations, taken action against over 3,400 violating accounts, and added labels to over 600,000 short videos.

According to the Chancellery's announcement, platforms have been instructed to standardize short video content labeling categories and make labeling a mandatory step in the publishing process. Users are now required to indicate the category of the content they upload. Furthermore, platforms must add markers to previously published materials to ensure that all relevant videos are properly labeled.

The Chancellery will further define specific requirements and a work schedule to ensure a unified rollout of standardized short video content labeling measures nationwide, while simultaneously conducting audits and collecting evidence. Platforms and accounts that fail to comply with labeling requirements or fulfill their obligations will be severely punished and publicly exposed, the agency stated. -0-

BEIJING, March 21 (Xinhua) — China's first 550-MW F-class gas turbine unit has successfully completed a 168-hour full-load test and officially entered service, marking a new breakthrough in the application of high-efficiency, large-capacity clean energy equipment, China Huadian Corporation Ltd. announced on Saturday.

This unit is part of the corporation's gas power project located in the Tongnan district of Chongqing, southwest China. The project's total installed capacity is approximately 1.1 million kW, making it the largest single-unit F-class gas turbine unit with the highest efficiency in the country.

Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate approximately 2.1 billion kWh of electricity annually, enough to meet the annual electricity needs of approximately 1.75 million households. It will also save approximately 200,000 tons of fuel equivalent and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 860,000 tons per year, while reducing sulfur dioxide and particulate matter emissions to near zero.

According to the corporation, electricity generated from natural gas serves as a supporting, regulatory, and integral energy source for the construction of a new type of energy system. Gas-fired power units not only replace coal-fired power plants but also play a crucial role in providing a powerful, efficient, and environmentally friendly backup power supply.

Compared to coal-fired power units, gas turbine units offer significantly lower emissions, greater flexibility, and higher efficiency. They can reach full power in approximately one hour, which is approximately five times faster than traditional coal-fired units.

Tehran, March 21 (Xinhua) — Iran fired two ballistic missiles at the US-British military base in Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean, the semi-official Mehr news agency reported on Saturday.

The Wall Street Journal and CNN reported on Friday that Iran fired ballistic missiles at a base on Diego Garcia, an island in the Chagos Archipelago, but they missed their target.

Britain on Friday agreed to the US use of the Diego Garcia air base to strike Iranian missile launchers used to attack ships in the Strait of Hormuz, British media reported.

The decision came after US President Donald Trump expressed disappointment with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for not allowing US troops to use a military base to launch strikes on Iran.

Astana, March 21 (Xinhua) — Horse meat consumption in Kazakhstan reached a record high in 2025, Kazinform reported on Saturday, citing the DATA HUB Telegram channel.

In Q4 2025, per capita consumption was 2.35 kg, the highest level for any quarter in at least 15 years, an increase of 10.7 percent year-on-year.

By the end of the year, horse meat consumption reached 7.63 kg per person, also setting a new record, while total meat consumption was 84.4 kg.

The share of horse meat in the meat diet has risen to a record 9 percent, while consumption of beef, lamb, and pork has declined, the report says.

Shifts in consumption patterns are partly explained by higher rates of price growth for beef and lamb compared to horse meat and poultry. –0–

NEW YORK, March 21 (Xinhua) — The U.S. Treasury Department on Friday issued a general license temporarily lifting sanctions on Iranian oil at sea for 30 days to ease supply shortages amid shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.

A general license issued by the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control authorizes the delivery and sale of Iranian-origin crude oil and petroleum products loaded onto tankers as of March 20.

Operations to ensure the safe mooring and berthing of the relevant tankers, to ensure the health and safety of crews, to carry out emergency repairs and to protect the environment, as well as other related operations, are also permitted.

Notably, this license allows the import of crude oil and petroleum products of Iranian origin into the United States.

"This temporary, short-term authorization applies only to oil already in transit and does not involve new purchases or production," US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent wrote on Friday on social media.

He said it would be difficult for Iran to access any proceeds from these transactions, and the United States would continue to exert maximum pressure on Iran and limit its ability to access the international financial system.

Chengdu, March 21 (Xinhua) — French pharmaceutical giant Sanofi recently officially opened an innovation and operations center in Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province, marking the company's first such facility in China and signaling its expanding presence in the country.

The decision to establish the center in Chengdu reflects the company's commitment to always be at the forefront of global innovation, said Madeleine Roach, executive vice president of business operations at Sanofi.

According to her, Chengdu's significant position in the biopharmaceutical industry, its rich talent pool, and its vibrant innovation ecosystem make it an ideal location to expand Sanofi's capabilities and deepen its presence in China. She is convinced that this development will benefit both patients and the company's partners.

The new center's activities will cover a wide range of activities, from R&D and clinical trials to supply chain management services, and it is planned to create more than 600 professional positions by the end of 2026.

According to the company, the Chengdu center has already established cooperation with Sanofi's operational centers in countries such as India, Hungary, Malaysia, Colombia, and Spain, forming an efficient, interconnected global network.

Paris-headquartered Sanofi first entered the Chinese market in 1982, opening a local office. Since then, the company has steadily expanded its innovation and research activities in China. It currently has several manufacturing and R&D centers in China, including four R&D centers in Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, and Suzhou.

In 2025, the company began construction of a new insulin active pharmaceutical ingredient production base in Beijing with a total investment of €1 billion (approximately $1.16 billion). -0-

The best light-duty vehicle driver was selected at the KAMAZ logistics center.

A professional skills competition was held in the parking lot of the KAMAZ PJSC Transport Logistics Department. The event's organizers—the department's management and trade union committee—invited anyone interested to test their knowledge and skills. Eleven people participated.

"The competition isn't just a challenge; it's always an opportunity to gain new knowledge and improve your professional skills," emphasized Alexander Marakin, Director of the Transport Logistics Department, welcoming the participants. According to the event's rules, all drivers first had to pass a test on their knowledge of traffic rules. Each incorrect answer resulted in a 10-second penalty, and the final score for this stage was added to the driving time during the practice session. The organizers made the track as challenging as possible, incorporating elements such as the "Snake," "Overpass," "Onion," "Garage," "Parking," and "Curb." Drivers performed these maneuvers in Lada Largus vehicles. Successfully completing the course required maximum concentration, precision, and confidence in driving.

The best result across the two stages—3 minutes 38 seconds—was achieved by Ramil Anasov, who has been working at the logistics center for just under a year. Liana Kotova took silver, and Alexander Malyasev took third place. The winner and runners-up received valuable gifts, and the participants received incentive prizes.
