Moscow, January 5 (Xinhua) — The international community cannot allow the United States to assert itself as "some sort of supreme judge" following the American military operation in Venezuela, said Vasily Nebenzya, Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN.
"The United States cannot be allowed to assert itself as some sort of supreme judge, the sole authority to invade any country, determine the perpetrators, impose punishments, and execute them, regardless of the concepts of international jurisdiction, sovereignty, and non-interference," V. Nebenzya emphasized at a UN Security Council meeting devoted to the situation surrounding Venezuela.
According to a Russian diplomat, the goal of the US military operation in Venezuela is to establish control over Venezuela's resources.
“What is particularly striking is the unprecedented cynicism with which Washington did not even try to camouflage the true goals of its criminal operation: establishing unlimited control over Venezuela’s natural resources and asserting its hegemonic ambitions in Latin America,” the Permanent Representative noted.
He also said Washington's actions against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro were a harbinger of a return to an era of lawlessness and American military dominance.
“We strongly condemn the US act of armed aggression against Venezuela in violation of all international legal norms,” added V. Nebenzya. –0–
