CHANGCHUN, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) — Nanyang, a small village in northeastern China, is a hotbed of fun and unusual dynamics in summer, attracting more and more travelers with its unique Russian style like a magnet.

Nanyang Village, administratively subordinate to Shulan City, Jilin Province, is built in the Russian style and is a symbol of Sino-Russian friendship.

Here, at every step, there is a generous scattering of Russian motifs: from colorful matryoshka dolls lined up in a cheerful round dance of sculptures to themed guest houses. The aroma of freshly baked bread intoxicates the mind, and the shops are bursting with exotic Russian goods. The heart of the village – the Nanyang Village Museum carefully preserves elements of Russian culture: embroidered sarafans, jingling coins, oil paintings and household utensils.

"Since Nanyang donned the Russian garb in 2017, its popularity as a tourist destination has grown by leaps and bounds over the past eight years, with more and more tourists coming here," said Li Jian, head of Nanyang Village.

“You don’t have to fly to the ends of the earth to breathe in the atmosphere of Russian architecture, taste real Russian cuisine and take home a whole bunch of souvenirs with Russian flavor. This trip awakened in me a keen interest in Russian culture,” said Yu Tingjiao, a tourist from Liaoning Province /Northeastern China/. Her post about her trip to Nanyang instantly flew around social networks, collecting thousands of likes from enthusiastic Internet users.

The history of Nanyang, once an unremarkable village, is inextricably intertwined with Russia.

According to local native Chen Xukun, who has been doing business in Russia for many years, most of the villagers in Nanyang have been to Russia and did business there. Over time, many returned, bringing Russian customs and culture with them. They began to develop tourism and catering industries related to the neighboring country, making the village a witness to the friendship between China and Russia.

Step into the Nanyang Village Museum and you will be immersed in a kaleidoscope of stories that tell of the close connection between this land and Russia.

Since the 90s of the last century, many villagers have flocked to Russia to engage in the trade of clothing, footwear and headwear, electronic products, etc. At first, after arriving in a foreign country, they faced difficulties: a language barrier, lack of funds and limited channels for selling goods.

But gradually, integrating into the local culture, adapting to the new rhythm of life, their business grew stronger and flourished. From modest mobile kiosks at wholesale markets, they moved on to stationary stores and warehouses, from a few bundles of goods to batches numbering in hundreds of packages…

In recent years, the natives of Nanyang land who returned from Russia have been diligently transforming their native land, weaving a new thread into the pattern of Sino-Russian friendship with their hard-working hands.

They built guest houses in the Russian style, where gastronomy, comfort and entertainment are intertwined. Here, like an oasis, a children's water playground spreads out, and the roadside walls are decorated with a monumental canvas telling the story of the life and discoveries of the great Russian scientist Dmitri Mendeleyev.

The flow of tourists looking for a colorful holiday is steadily growing, and more and more travelers are looking to spend their weekends here.

To attract even more visitors, local enthusiasts have mastered the art of streaming. “Here you will find exotic buildings, delicious Russian cuisine and fascinating folk performances.”

Inspired by the online broadcast, 78-year-old Liu Guiqin traveled to Nanyang from afar, accompanied by her entire family. And travelers like Ms. Liu Guiqin are becoming more and more common.

In turn, the village of Nanyang becomes a kind of window through which Russians can touch the wealth of Chinese art and culture.

In mid-July, the Chinese-Russian Student Voice Festival 2025 was held in Shulan City with great success, and Nanyang Village was chosen as one of its highlights. At the very entrance to the village, there was a stage on which about 20 young talents from China and Russia shone.

Popular Chinese and Russian songs such as “The Moon Represents My Heart”, “What Kind of Songs Do They Sing in Rus'”, “Never Enough”, “Return” and many others were performed on stage.

The festival also saw great success in paper cutting workshops. The ingenious works of delicately cut paper in the form of Russian nesting dolls, made by Chinese masters of this folk art, caused genuine delight among the guests from Russia.

“I studied Chinese at university. This is my third trip to China, and I learned a lot about the history and culture of this country,” said Ekaterina Igumnova, who performed on the festival stage.

According to Yu Xinlian, a student at Jilin Institute of Arts, Nanyang Village has become a true bridge connecting hearts and facilitating communication between the two peoples. -0-

TEHRAN, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) — Iran and the European "troika" of Germany, France and Britain have agreed to continue contacts in the coming days, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

In an interview with state television channel IRIB TV, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei spoke about the results of a meeting of senior diplomats from Iran, the European “troika” and the European Union in Geneva earlier that day.

According to E. Baghaei, during the negotiations, Iran “directly and unambiguously” informed the other parties of its demand for the lifting of sanctions, as well as its nuclear rights.

The Iranian delegation told the Europeans that they had no right to activate the snapback mechanism and restore international sanctions against Tehran, and warned them of the consequences if such a scenario developed, he added.

Commenting on the meeting in a post on the X social media platform, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi said both sides laid out their views on UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which endorses the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers.

He said Iran remains committed to diplomacy and finding a mutually beneficial diplomatic solution, stressing that it is time for the European troika and the UN Security Council to make “the right choice and give diplomacy time and space.” –0–

BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) — The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) on Wednesday said it will make efforts to support foreign-invested enterprises in China and take a series of measures to improve services in key areas.

Since the beginning of 2025, CCPIT has received leaders of nearly 100 cross-border companies and sent 274 delegations to 55 countries and regions around the world to strengthen cooperation in industrial and supply chains, spokesperson Wang Guangnan said at a press conference.

The committee is also deepening cooperation through holding major events, including the 3rd China International Supply Chain Exposition (CISCE) held last month, where 35 percent of all participants were from overseas, she said.

To deepen cooperation, the committee held three study tours to regions in China for foreign trade associations and foreign-invested enterprises after the exhibition, and held symposiums on optimizing the business environment, developing the pharmaceutical industry, and localizing production. These efforts have led to several cooperation agreements and prompt responses to the needs of these types of enterprises, Wang Guangnan emphasized.

The spokesperson noted that despite external uncertainties, foreign-invested companies remain committed to expanding their scale in China and have confidence in the Chinese market.

Looking forward, CCPIT will continue to serve as a bridge to promote high-level economic and trade exchanges between China and overseas countries, and help foreign-funded enterprises invest, develop and succeed in China, Wang said. -0-

Novosibirsk State University and Binnopharm Group, one of the largest pharmaceutical manufacturers in Russia, have agreed to cooperate in the educational and research fields. The corresponding agreement was signed today at the international forum for technological development Technoprom-2025. The university will train specialists for the company within the framework of the new master's program Industrial Pharmacy, which opened this year at the Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies (IMMT) of NSU.

— Biotechnology and medical research are one of the priority areas that will be developed on the basis of the infrastructure of the new educational and scientific center of the NSU IMMT and the NSU research center, which are objects of the NSU campus under construction. Also this year we launched new educational programs, including the specialty "Medical Cybernetics". Partnership with one of the market leaders will allow us to adapt our educational programs to the current requirements of pharmaceutical manufacturers and train specialists who will be in demand in the labor market. And also to work at the forefront of science in the field of medical biotechnology and the development of new drugs, — commented the rector of NSU, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Mikhail Fedoruk.

The infrastructure of the new NSU campus, which is one of the priority projects for the development of the Novosibirsk Region and is being implemented within the framework of the federal project “Creation of a network of modern campuses” of the national project “Youth and Children”, allows working with a wide range of technological platforms – from gene therapy to cellular technologies, which is intended to make a significant contribution to achieving the goal of ensuring technological leadership of the country.

The future campus space will meet modern requirements and demands of the student community. Design solutions will allow creating unique scientific and educational centers, as well as additional coworking areas. The campus will serve as the foundation for a modern comfortable environment for students and teachers.

— Pharmaceuticals is one of the most dynamic and knowledge-intensive industries. Success here is determined not only by fundamental knowledge, but also by the ability to innovate, so for us, the partnership with NSU is a strategic investment in the future of the industry, — noted Tatyana Fedchenko, Director of HR and Organizational Development at Binnopharm Group. — Binnopharm Group systematically builds work with the country's leading universities. We organize internships, practical training and excursions so that students can get acquainted with modern production during their studies. This year alone, more than 200 students have completed such programs. This allows us not only to fill vacancies, but to attract motivated and promising specialists to the company who are already familiar with our standards.

In addition to cooperation in implementing the master's program, NSU plans to launch educational courses for additional professional education in order to train specialists with unique competencies required for the enterprises of Binnopharm Group. This concerns postgraduate training in the field of pharmacy.

In the future, it is planned to expand the scope of cooperation and conduct joint research projects in the field of biomedical developments that are relevant to the modern scientific agenda.

— The cooperation between NSU and the Binnopharm Group company will allow us to more effectively build the entire chain of product creation: starting with joint development based on our laboratories, the release of pilot industrial batches and ending with further scaling at the company's production sites, — said Yulia Samoilova, Director of the NSU Institute of Medical Technologies.

In order to implement the full cycle of development of innovative medical products and drugs, as well as bring them to the stage of production of pilot industrial series under GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) conditions, a complex of high-tech clean rooms and laboratories that meet the most stringent international standards will be created at the university on the basis of the new campus.

I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University and Novosibirsk State University (NSU) have signed an agreement to open a joint clinical research center "West-East". The goal of the strategic partnership between the country's two leading research universities is to organize and conduct clinical research, create breakthrough technologies and innovative drugs for practical healthcare. Vice-Rector for Scientific and Technological Development of the First Moscow State Medical University Vadim Tarasov and Rector of NSU Mikhail Fedoruk signed the document on August 27 at the XII international forum "Technoprom-2025" in Novosibirsk.

The Clinical Research Center of the First Moscow State Medical University and Novosibirsk State University will begin its work in September 2025 and its activities will have two key areas. The first is conducting clinical trials of drugs. Combining the resources of two leading Russian universities will solve the problem of patient recruitment for pharmaceutical companies by coordinating actions in the Western European (based on Sechenov University) and Eastern European (based on NSU) parts of the country.

The second direction is joint exploratory research to create innovative medical technologies. The partners will direct part of the funds received from the commercial activities of the center to their development.

— To implement this strategic direction, we are combining the capabilities of two universities. On the part of Sechenov University, this is medical industry expertise and our unique competencies in the field of drug development and bringing them to market, — Vadim Tarasov commented on the signing of the document. — Our specialists have successfully developed and introduced into production more than 200 drugs, conducted more than 300 preclinical and more than a thousand clinical studies, including studies of the first coronavirus vaccine "Sputnik V". We carry out all stages of drug development – from the stage of molecule selection to the submission of a registration dossier in accordance with Russian and international standards. Together with Novosibirsk State University, we plan to create a system for financing exploratory research at the expense of profits received for conducting clinical trials. We are talking about joint research to create breakthrough medical technologies and innovative drugs using artificial intelligence and X-ray structural analysis of molecules. The combination of these technologies will significantly speed up and reduce the cost of developing innovative drugs.

The Medical Research and Educational Center of the Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies (IMMT) of NSU will become the platform for the Eastern European segment of the clinical center. The Institute has unique technological platforms and a ready-made research infrastructure, which creates a solid foundation for its development and allows it to begin implementing specific scientific and clinical tasks.

— The infrastructure created at NSU for conducting fundamental research, including the unique educational and research station SKIF-NSU, the construction of which will be completed this year, will allow us to exchange experience, expand the clinical base, initiate new projects, and also shorten the path of a drug from the first phase of clinical trials to the launch of a finished product on the market, — said Yulia Samoilova, Director of the Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies of NSU.

She also noted that today most clinical trials are conducted in central Russia. Now that a similar center will be created beyond the Urals, new opportunities will appear for expanding cooperation with drug manufacturers from the BRICS countries, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, China and India, for whom it is more convenient from a logistical point of view to interact with research centers located in Siberia.

The West-East Center is equipped with all the necessary equipment for conducting clinical research and testing of medical products, including innovative ones that have no analogues on the market. In the future, NSU and Sechenov University plan to launch joint network educational programs in the field of medical and pharmaceutical education, including programs for additional professional education.

BRASILIA, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) — Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Tuesday that Brazil is not prepared to accept being treated as lesser by other countries, in an indirect response to Washington amid growing tensions with the United States.

Speaking at his second cabinet meeting this year, the president rejected foreign demands and stressed that no one in Brazil is above the law.

Stressing the importance of Brazil's sovereignty, he said: "Anyone who wants to enter this 8.5 million square kilometres of territory, our airspace, our sea space, our forests, must be responsible to our Constitution and our legislation."

The Brazilian president also commented on President Donald Trump's imposition of high tariffs on Brazilian goods and threats against any attempts to regulate the activities of large American tech companies.

The Brazilian government is ready to sit down at the negotiating table with the United States "on equal terms," said L.I. Lula da Silva. "What we are not ready to accept is to be treated as subordinates," he stressed.

On July 30, the Trump administration announced plans to impose tariffs of up to 50 percent on Brazilian exports and impose sanctions on Brazil's Supreme Federal Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes, who is currently overseeing the case against former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is accused of trying to seize power after losing the 2022 presidential election. –0–

HOHHOT, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) — Two Russian cities, Moscow and Kazan, have received orders from the International Tourism Union "Great Tea Road" and become new members of the regional tourism cooperation organization.

The orders were awarded by representatives of the secretariat of the said union on Tuesday during the presentation of cultural and tourist products of the “Great Tea Road”, which took place within the framework of the 5th China-Mongolia EXPO, which is taking place in the city of Hohhot, the administrative center of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (North China).

The Great Tea Road, which emerged around the 17th century, began in the Wuyi Mountains in what is now Fujian Province in eastern China and reached St. Petersburg, crossing China, Mongolia and Russia. This tea route, with a length of over 13,000 km, was the longest overland caravan route in history. Witnessing the history of exchanges and contacts between the three countries, it enjoys a worldwide reputation on par with the Great Silk Road, the Ancient Tea Horse Route “Kam” and the Maritime Silk Road.

On July 22, 2016, the International Tourism Union “Great Tea Road” was established with the secretariat in the Autonomous Republic of Inner Mongolia. Its founding members were 12 cities, provinces, regions or districts, including Fujian Province, the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar and the Irkutsk Region of Russia.

In October 2024, it became known that Russia, China and Mongolia agreed to create a single brand and adopted the concept of the Great Tea Road tourist route. The geography of the route follows the 18th century trade route from China through Mongolia, Siberia, the Urals and the Volga region to Moscow and St. Petersburg. Within the framework of the route, it is planned to develop tourism products in the field of excursion and educational tourism.

According to the signed agreements, the tourism authorities of the three countries are willing to make sustained efforts to strengthen tourism connectivity, remove barriers and bottlenecks to the development of cross-border travel, and make concerted use of relevant resources to build the Tea Road into a golden international tourism route that offers cross-border travelers a unique experience of a safe, comfortable and healthy tourism environment. -0-
