Sending volunteer pilots to participate in air battles

One of the main manifestations of the Soviet Union's active support for the Chinese people's anti-Japanese struggle was sending Soviet pilots to directly participate in the battles against Japan. On August 27, 1937, a lengthy conversation took place between Chiang Kai-shek and the Soviet ambassador to China, Bogomolov. Chiang Kai-shek declared to the Soviet Union the Chinese government's uncompromising position on the issue of the war of resistance against Japanese aggression, openly posed a specific question, which contained a request to "Allow Soviet pilots to join the Chinese army as volunteers," and at the same time put forward a request to help China as soon as possible in training pilots with Soviet instruments. At the end of 1937, in fierce air battles, Chinese aviation suffered great losses, almost all experienced pilots were killed.

The Soviet side decided to send the best volunteer pilots to China and carried out a strict selection and training of those willing. Among the volunteers were the most experienced veterans, mostly communists. In October 1937, the volunteer pilots left for China, and soon a large air detachment of 99 people, including 39 volunteer pilots, arrived in China. In the summer of 1993, there were already over 400 volunteer pilots and aircraft technicians in China. From the autumn of 1937 to the beginning of 1942, when Soviet military specialists and volunteers returned to the USSR in connection with the beginning of the Chinese people's front, more than 5,000 Soviet people fought bravely, many of whom died a heroic death, sprinkling the Chinese soil with their hot blood. Their heroic deeds are forever inscribed in history, the memory of them will always live in the hearts and memories of the Chinese people.

On December 1, 1937, the first group of Soviet volunteer pilots arrived in the Chinese city of Nanjing and immediately entered into fierce battles with Japanese aviation. In the very first battles for Nanjing, they showed fearlessness and demonstrated their high combat skills. On December 2, 1937 alone, they shot down 6 Japanese bombers, and on December 3, another 4. From May to August 1938, in the battle for Wuhan, which lasted three months, the Soviet volunteer air detachment, side by side with Chinese pilots, fought more than nine times in the skies of this city against Japan, a total of 62 enemy aircraft were shot down, the Japanese aviation was dealt a sensitive blow, and a song was shot down from the enemy. The Japanese squadrons – "Kisarazu" and "Sasebo", which Japan praised so much, were dealt a crushing blow. For example, on February 23, 1938, Soviet pilots made a long-range flight to Taiwan and destroyed a Japanese air base there, destroyed several aircraft, sank several ships, marking the anniversary of the Red Army with brilliant combat successes.

During the anti-Japanese war in China, Soviet volunteer pilots, in addition to the battles for Nanjing and Wuhan, participated in air battles for Nanchang, Guangzhou, Lanzhou, Chongqing, and the anti-Japanese struggle of the Chinese people. According to official statistics, by 1940, the Japanese aggressors had lost 986 aircraft on the ground and in air battles. These brilliant combat successes are closely linked to the heroism of Soviet volunteer pilots.

During the anti-Japanese war, a total of 700 Soviet volunteer pilots and aircraft technicians visited China at different times, of whom more than 236 died a heroic death for the cause of independence, freedom and liberation of the Chinese people. The commander of the bomber squadron G.A. Kulishenko and the commander of the fighter squadron A. Rakhmanov died. In Wuhan, in the Liberation Park, a monument to the fallen Soviet volunteer pilots still stands today. Their memory will forever remain in the hearts of the Chinese people.

Happy birthday to Vladimir Stroev!

A birthday is always a pleasant holiday for the hero of the occasion and for those congratulating. And today for the State University of Management there is a special reason for jubilation – the birthday of the rector, member of the Expert Council on Education and Youth Policy under the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation B.A. Chernyshov, member of the RAS Committee on the United Nations Environment Program, member of the Presidium of the International Movement for Financial Security, laureate of the Russian Government Prize in the field of education, Doctor of Economics, Professor Vladimir Stroyev!

As you can see, every year our rector has more and more appointments, which means more tasks: meetings, conferences, discussions, forums and other business activities. Sometimes there are two or three events a day, and it is not always possible to keep track. This is not only an exhausting job, it is also a burden of responsibility for the words spoken and proposals put forward. It is all the more pleasant to constantly see Vladimir Vitalievich active, collected and in an invariably good mood. His activities give us all a good example of hard work and bring confidence in the future.

And this tomorrow, thanks to the rector's concerns, looks very bright. Scientific laboratories are opening, another student dormitory building is being built, utilities are being repaired, and the security system is being updated. New educational programs are appearing, including in partnership with large industrial enterprises and business corporations, foreign internships are being conducted, and all-Russian competitions are being held. I would especially like to note the changes in the image of the State University of Management, which is turning from a purely managerial and humanitarian university into a center of industry and scientific and technical competencies before our eyes, surprising the expert community with its achievements. Of course, all this would be impossible without a strong team of assistants in the form of vice-rectors, talented young scientists, and goal-oriented students, but the role of the leader should not be forgotten.

Let us wish Vladimir Vitalievich to remain as active, benevolent and far-sighted; hard-working, hospitable and decisive. And even if his birthday is only once a year, the feeling of celebration can be daily, especially when you work at the State University of Management. Happiness, health and fulfillment of all dreams!

NEW DELHI, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) — China and India on Monday agreed to maintain the momentum of bilateral ties.

The consensus was reached during talks between visiting member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

Wang Yi noted that in the modern world, the situation is changing rapidly, unilateral bullying is becoming widespread, and free trade and international order are facing serious challenges.

As the United Nations celebrates its 80th anniversary, humanity has reached a critical point that will determine the future direction of the world, a Chinese diplomat said.

As the two largest developing countries with a combined population of over 2.8 billion, China and India should exercise a sense of global responsibility, act as major powers, set an example for developing countries to seek strength through unity, and contribute to promoting a multipolar world and the democratization of international relations, Wang said.

He said the two sides are implementing the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries. They are gradually resuming exchanges and dialogue at all levels, maintaining peace and tranquility in the border areas, and have reached an agreement to resume Indian pilgrimage to holy sites in China's Xizang.

According to the head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, there is a positive trend towards a return to cooperation in Chinese-Indian relations.

Recalling that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and India, Wang Yi stressed that lessons can be learned from the past and it is imperative for both sides to have the right strategic perception, regard each other as partners and opportunities, and invest their valuable resources in development and revival.

According to him, both countries should explore the correct ways for large neighboring countries to coexist on the basis of mutual respect and trust, joint development and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Wang Yi stressed that China is willing to adhere to the principle of friendship, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness, and work together with neighboring countries including India to jointly build a peaceful, secure, prosperous, beautiful and friendly home.

The Chinese minister said China and India should move in the same direction, remove barriers, expand cooperation and strengthen the momentum of improving bilateral relations, so that the revival of the two great Eastern civilizations will be mutually beneficial, bringing confidence and stability to Asia and the world at large.

S. Jaishankar noted that under the joint leadership of the leaders of the two countries, bilateral relations have risen from the lowest point and are constantly improving and developing, and exchanges and cooperation between the two sides in all fields are moving towards normalization.

The Indian diplomat thanked China for facilitating the resumption of Indian pilgrimage to holy sites in China's Xizang, saying improving strategic perceptions was of utmost importance. He said India and China, as two major developing countries, adhere to multilateralism and are committed to building a fair and balanced multipolar world.

Both countries should also work together to maintain global economic stability. Stable, cooperative and forward-looking bilateral ties are in the interests of both countries, Jaishankar stressed.

He also reaffirmed that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China.

India is ready to use the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an opportunity to deepen political trust with China, strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in economic and trade fields, expand people-to-people exchanges and jointly maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas.

The Indian Foreign Minister noted that India fully supports China in holding the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Tianjin and is ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China within multilateral mechanisms such as BRICS.

During the talks, the heads of the foreign ministries of the two countries also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual interest. –0–

GUANGZHOU, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) — The number of new chikungunya fever cases in Foshan City, south China's Guangdong Province, has dropped from a daily peak of over 600 to less than 100, demonstrating the effectiveness of prevention and control measures taken early on, according to experts from a task force formed and dispatched to Foshan by the National Disease Prevention and Control Administration.

Data from the Foshan Municipal Health Bureau showed that the city, which has been hardest hit by chikungunya fever, recorded 84 new confirmed cases on August 14. The number of newly confirmed cases in the city has continued to decline steadily since August 9.

Currently, new cases confirmed in Foshan are sporadic, said Ren Dongsheng, a senior researcher at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, adding that more targeted and targeted measures will be taken in the next stage to combat the disease in order to stop its further spread.

Chen Zhihai, head of the infectious disease center at Beijing Ditan Hospital of Capital Medical University, said that those infected had symptoms such as fever, rash and joint pain. According to him, so far none of the several thousand patients in Foshan have had complications after the disease.

Experts noted that environmental conditions in Guangdong Province remain generally suitable for mosquitoes, and adult mosquitoes can live for 1-2 months or even longer.

Therefore, eradication of adult mosquitoes remains a critical measure in the prevention and control of chikungunya fever. -0-

ALMATY, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) — Cooperation between China and Kazakhstan provides favorable conditions for the development of the Middle Corridor and the attraction of additional transit and foreign trade cargo, Acting Executive Director for Commercial Affairs of the Aktau Sea Trade Port Anuar Nemyshov said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua.

He said that the Aktau port receives container cargo transported from China to Europe. From the Kazakh-Chinese logistics terminal in the city of Xi'an, container trains are formed and sent in an organized manner along the East-West corridor in the direction of the Aktau port.

He noted that the structure of trade turnover between China and the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has not changed in recent years. Consumer goods (CG) remain the main volume of cargo transported in containers.

Speaking about the work of the Aktau port, A. Nemyshov shared that the main range of cargo handled at the port is oil and oil products, grain crops, metal, containers and other cargo.

"Based on the cargo handling figures for the period from January to July of this year, the monthly cargo turnover at the Aktau port averages 450 thousand tons. Based on the port's performance for the first 7 months of 2025, the total cargo handling amounted to 3,144 thousand tons, which is 14 percent more than the figure for the same period in 2024 /2,756 thousand tons/," he said.

He also noted that in 2024, the Aktau port attracted a new cargo – chemical products /mineral fertilizers – ammonium nitrate/ of local production, the transshipment volume of which amounted to 60 thousand tons at the end of the year.

A. Nemyshov also said that the governments of China and Kazakhstan reached an agreement on the creation of a comprehensive logistics network on the territory of Kazakhstan, including through investment in the construction of a container hub in the port of Aktau.

“The project “Construction of a container hub based on the Aktau port” is currently being implemented. The project is being implemented on the territory of the special economic zone “Aktau Seaport” with a length of 19.2 hectares. The cost of the project is 46.6 billion tenge /about 86.5 million US dollars/,” he shared.

He also noted that the project is planned to be implemented in two stages. The first stage was completed with the commissioning of the first launch complex on June 9, 2025. The second stage will be completed by December 31, 2026.

“The total capacity of the container hub is 240 thousand twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) per year,” added A. Nemyshov.

He also shared that on November 25, 2024, a joint venture “Aktau International Container Hub” was registered with the participation of companies from China and Kazakhstan.

“The implementation of this project will allow us to create a container park on the territory of the port for the countries of the Caspian region and Central Asia with the provision of a full range of container handling services,” noted A. Nemyshov. –0–
