UN, September 24 /Xinhua/ — A resolution to the Palestinian issue is urgently needed, as it underlies instability in the Middle East. China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Geng Shuang, stated this at a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council on Tuesday.

According to him, the Palestinian issue remains central to the Middle East, affecting peace and stability in the region.

For more than 70 years, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has repeatedly led to chaos and war, shaping the international landscape, he said.

Since the start of the current war in Gaza, the Palestinian people have been plunged into deep suffering, he said, adding that tensions have increased in Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Iran, and even Qatar has come under attack.

Growing conflicts and instability in the Middle East have worsened the global security situation, weakened the global economic outlook, and run counter to the common interests of the international community, he emphasized. "That's why it's essential to prioritize this issue and expedite its resolution," the Chinese diplomat stated.

The tragedy in Gaza must be stopped immediately, Geng Shuang stated, noting that the conflict has left the Gaza Strip "destroyed and scarred." However, Israel continues to escalate its military operation, leading to even greater civilian casualties and displacement. "We call on Israel to immediately cease all military actions in Gaza, fulfill its obligations as an occupying power under international humanitarian law, and fully restore humanitarian access," he said.

Israel continues to expand settlements in the West Bank, forcibly dismantling Palestinian structures, frequently conducting raids, arrests, and attacks, and turning a blind eye to settler violence, he added. Noting that Israel recently approved the E1 settlement plan, Geng Shuang stated that this dangerous action constitutes a serious violation of international law and Security Council resolutions, undermines the territorial integrity of Palestine, and erodes the foundation for the establishment of an independent State of Palestine.

The implementation of the "two-state solution" is the only viable solution to the Palestinian issue, he emphasized, adding that several Western countries have recently recognized Palestinian statehood. The international community must support the current momentum, the swift establishment of an independent State of Palestine, and its admission to the UN as a full member, he said.

Since the beginning of the current conflict in Gaza, military adventurism and frequent abuses of force have emerged, causing profound changes in the regional situation, Geng Shuang noted. China calls on all parties to respect the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of Middle Eastern countries, and on Israel to sincerely respect the rights of the region's people to survival and development. China calls on all countries in the region to adhere to the concept of common security and unite to build a regional order based on equality and justice, so as to jointly build a future of peace and development, he said.

China has always upheld justice and fairness toward Palestine and has consistently steadfastly supported the just cause of the Palestinian people, Geng Shuang emphasized. China remains willing to work with the international community to promote a ceasefire, alleviate the humanitarian disaster, realize the principle of "two states for two peoples," and achieve a comprehensive and lasting settlement of the Palestinian issue, he concluded.

BEIJING, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) — China, which has the world's largest education system, has taken consistent and carefully considered steps to enhance its global competitiveness in education.

In March 2021, China unveiled the country's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), which put forward a series of goals in the education sector as part of the country's efforts to build a modernized socialist country.

These goals include ensuring equal access to basic education, improving vocational education, enhancing the quality of higher education and deepening reforms in this area.

More than four years later, the results and statistics summarized at a press conference on Tuesday show that China has not only achieved its goals but also made breakthroughs in many areas of the education sector.

"China has built the largest and highest-quality education system globally, ensuring strong guarantees for equal access for children," Education Minister Huai Jinpeng said at a press conference.

One of the country's key achievements is that basic education development has reached the average level of high-income countries. Access to high-quality compulsory education has steadily expanded, with 2,895 counties nationwide achieving balanced development in this area. China also increased subsidies for needy students. From 2021 to 2024, a total of 630 million students received subsidies. The amount of subsidies distributed exceeded 1.2 trillion yuan (approximately $169 billion).

In addition, the gross enrolment rate in pre-primary education reached 92 percent, exceeding the target of 90 percent set for the period 2021-2025, while the gross enrolment rate in higher education rose to 60.8 percent, slightly exceeding the target of 60 percent.

Over the past four years, Chinese higher education institutions have graduated more than 55 million people and won more than 75 percent of the country's national awards in natural sciences and technological inventions.

“Chinese universities have made breakthroughs in areas such as life sciences, quantum technology, artificial intelligence, materials science, and space science, and have also made progress in philosophy, social sciences, culture, and the arts,” the minister noted.

China has also created the world's largest vocational education system. As Vice Minister of Education Xiong Sihao announced at a press conference on Tuesday, the country currently has 9,302 secondary vocational schools, 1,562 higher vocational schools, and 87 undergraduate schools. They enroll a total of 34 million people.

China is also making efforts to integrate manufacturing and education to better link talent development with regional economic and industrial development.

During this period, China has undertaken comprehensive reforms in the education sector. These include optimizing the allocation of resources to basic education, improving the college entrance examination system, and diversifying professional development pathways for university students.

China's education sector is also increasingly opening up to the outside world. The country has created the world's largest intelligent education platform, providing high-quality services to over 170 million users from over 200 countries and regions.

According to data released at the press conference, China has carried out educational cooperation and exchanges with 183 countries and regions around the world, signed agreements on mutual recognition of education, qualifications and academic degrees with 61 countries and regions around the world, and cooperated with 42 countries and regions in the management of joint educational institutions and programs. -0-

Tashkent, September 24 (Xinhua) – The new Uzbekistan advocates solidarity, open dialogue, and close cooperation with all countries of the world, and is ready to contribute to strengthening dialogue among peoples, cultures, and civilizations, and to achieving the goals of humanity. This was stated by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, speaking at the 80th anniversary session of the UN General Assembly.

On September 23, the general debates of the 80th anniversary session of the UN General Assembly began at UN Headquarters in New York City. As the press service of the Uzbek leader reported on Tuesday, in his speech, Shavkat Mirziyoyev detailed the irreversible reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan, which are fully consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals. "As was emphasized, our country consistently continues to implement the policy of building a democratic, legal, social, and secular state—a New Uzbekistan," the statement read.

It was noted that in recent years, the poverty rate in Uzbekistan has been reduced from 35 percent to 6.6 percent. This was achieved primarily through reforming education and science, creating innovative industries and technological industrial enterprises, developing green energy, modernizing transport infrastructure, and providing comprehensive support for small businesses, thereby creating millions of jobs.

"Special attention was given to Uzbekistan's foreign policy priorities. The country's leader noted: 'Eight years ago, from this lofty podium, we declared our firm resolve to transform Central Asia into a space of peace, good-neighborliness, and partnership. And today, we can state with deep satisfaction that we have achieved this strategic goal. The era of closed borders, unresolved disputes, and conflicts is a thing of the past,'" the statement reads.

New York, September 24 (Xinhua) — China is willing to work with Canada to make more proactive and practical efforts to further improve bilateral relations. Chinese Premier Li Qiang, who is in New York to attend the general debate of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, announced this during a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Tuesday.

He also called on both sides to steadily move their relations along the path of healthy, stable and sustainable development.

Taking the opportunity of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the strategic partnership, China is willing to work together with Canada in the spirit of responsibility to the people and bilateral relations, Li Qiang noted.

China hopes that the Canadian side can form a correct understanding of China and respect each other's core interests and key concerns so as to strengthen the political foundation for the development of bilateral cooperation and ties, the Chinese Premier said.

He said China supports closer exchanges between the governments, political parties, legislatures and local authorities of the two countries, as well as people-to-people and youth exchanges, so as to deepen mutual understanding and strengthen mutual trust through dialogue and exchanges.

"China has long been Canada's second-largest trading partner, and bilateral trade has seen rapid growth since the beginning of this year," Li Qiang noted, emphasizing that China is willing to work with Canada to maintain and expand the positive momentum while addressing trade and economic issues through dialogue and consultation.

He called on both sides to deepen and expand mutually beneficial cooperation in energy, green development, tourism and other fields, so as to bring greater benefits to the peoples of both countries.

Li Qiang noted that in light of a number of recent developments in the international arena, in particular the rise of unilateralism and protectionism, as well as the spread of trade restrictions, the international community must strengthen solidarity and join forces to respond to risks and challenges.

He expressed China's willingness to strengthen communication and coordination with Canada to jointly promote economic globalization and free trade, support the reform and development of the WTO, and work to build an open world economy to better safeguard the common interests of the international community.
