NANJING, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) — At a massive, modern manufacturing facility in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, high-tech home appliances designed and manufactured by leading European home appliance maker BSH are quickly attracting visitors' attention.

These products include hoods with self-cleaning functions, new models of gas stoves and washing machines.

Welcoming a group of journalists who visited BSH's production base and R&D center in Nanjing earlier this month, Yao Yong, Chairman of BSH Electrical Appliances /Jiangsu/ Co., Ltd. (a BSH subsidiary), said BSH, which produces home appliances for renowned brands such as Bosch and Siemens, began its growth journey in the Chinese market more than three decades ago.

As a leading global manufacturer of household appliances, BSH first entered the Chinese market in 1994. Through continuous investment and production expansion, the company has gradually established a comprehensive service network in the country, as well as two production bases in Chuzhou (Anhui Province, eastern China) and Nanjing.

While sharing details about the company with journalists, Yao Yong highlighted the BSH Global R&D Center, which opened in Nanjing in 2024, marking the company's 30th anniversary in China. According to Yao Yong, as BSH's largest comprehensive R&D center in the world, this facility is important both domestically and globally and will serve as an innovation engine, giving the company an edge in global competition through the development of innovative products.

He also said the opening of the center also reflects the company's recognition of the Chinese market's enormous consumer potential, as well as the country's abundance of highly skilled labor and innovation.

"China is an innovation plateau," Yao Yong noted, explaining that in addition to the automotive industry and artificial intelligence, the country's innovations are also consistently evident in the home appliance industry.

Yao Yong said that the center has established in-depth cooperation with many Jiangsu universities, including Nanjing University, Southeast University, and Jiangnan University, and such cooperation has helped the company improve both its R&D level and product quality.

"Our confidence in long-term development in China has been further strengthened. We hope that through our efforts we can create and produce more high-quality products for Chinese consumers," Yao Yong stated.

According to Chen Chao, CEO of BSH Electrical Appliances /Jiangsu/ Co., Ltd., opportunities associated with rising consumption in China and the country's consumer support policies, such as trade-in programs, will support the company's revenue growth. "With the same budget, consumers tend to choose more premium brands and seek higher quality. I believe that rising consumption in China will make our products more appealing to customers," Chen Chao emphasized.

Forecasting the expansion of the market, especially for high-end home appliances, Chen Chao added that the company is trying to take advantage of the relevant measures of the Chinese government, making appropriate adjustments and taking advantage of the benefits these measures can bring to the company.

Yao Yun shares this opinion, stating that BSH products are fully aligned with the "rising level of consumption." "BSH offers products from the mid-to-high-end to the top luxury segment. For example, the Bosch brand focuses on family health and quality of life, while Siemens emphasizes advanced technologies and scientific and technological innovation."

Regarding production cost control, both Yao Yong and Chen Chao believe the strength of the Chinese supply chain has given the company an advantage in global competition. Currently, the Nanjing subsidiary sources most of its raw materials and components within China.

“From a supply chain perspective, China offers cost advantages in terms of raw materials, and this gives us an advantage in terms of controlling production costs compared to our global competitors,” Chen Chao noted.

A favorable local business climate is also crucial for the company's development. For example, the site selection, construction, project application, and administrative approval for the R&D center went very smoothly thanks to the support of local authorities, Chen Chao noted.

"Nanjing is fertile ground for investment and business development. We see that the city administration and local district government are truly open and effective," Yao Yong stated. "Responding to every request and not interfering when unnecessary has become a hallmark of the services provided by local authorities," he concluded. -0-

On September 24, the State University of Management held a seminar-meeting for university management entitled "Tools for Developing Youth Entrepreneurship at the University: An Integrated Approach to Training Personnel for an Innovative Economy."

On behalf of the host party, Vladimir Stroev, Rector of the State University of Management, greeted those gathered.

"Today, we're meeting not just in a hall, but in the atrium of the SUM Business Center, where similar events are regularly held. This year, we've taken a special approach to building a business community, implementing programs to develop relevant skills not only for students but also for schoolchildren. For example, we hold entrepreneurship sessions at four of the country's largest children's centers: Artek, Okean, Smena, and Orlyonok. We work with students at our Pre-University Center. We've been supervising entrepreneurship classes for several years now, and their number is growing. We have a historical right to do this, as SUM's roots go back to the Aleksandrovsky Commercial School, where many famous merchant families studied. This is our specialty, and we will continue to move in this direction and cultivate leaders in all sectors," the rector concluded.

Next to speak was Ksenia Goryacheva, First Deputy Chair of the State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education, who urged seminar participants to be united and engaged and to view entrepreneurship as an opportunity for students, together with their teachers, to explore the world around them, apply their knowledge here and now, and find their place.

Alexander Vedekhin, Deputy Director of the Department of State Youth Policy and Educational Activities at the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, greeted the audience via videoconference. The expert described the development of the "Startup as a Diploma" project, noted the importance of building a community of university alumni, and emphasized that "today, every student should have the opportunity to connect with the business community and try their hand at starting their own business."

Moving from the welcome section to the working program, Olga Serebryannikova, Director of the Project Office for the Development of Youth Entrepreneurship in Higher Education Institutions of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, introduced the event's organizers and described its structure and objectives.

Participants participated in a project session, where, through group work, they formulated their proposals on creating the necessary conditions for the development of the youth business community.

Before the presentation of the results of the work in the groups, university representatives were welcomed by Olga Petrova, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

"Today, there's a strong demand from students for technological entrepreneurship. From their first year, they strive to develop, create projects, and achieve success. Our goal is to provide them with education and the right knowledge, including teaching them that taking risks is okay, but only consciously. Over the past few years, many systematic efforts have been made in this area: the University Technological Entrepreneurship Platform and the "Startup as a Diploma" project, which 198 universities have already joined. The presence of rectors and vice-rectors today demonstrates that we also have the internal administrative resources to address local issues. What we're discussing today and what you're doing in your organizations is important and necessary. Thank you for your work," concluded Olga Petrova.

The Deputy Minister also emphasized that all final results of the seminar-meeting will be systematized and presented to the Ministry of Education and Science.
