BEIJING, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) — China's Defense Ministry on Thursday called on the international community to take joint action to curb the resurgence of Japanese militarism.
Ministry spokesman Zhang Xiaogang made the statement at a press conference in response to media questions about the Japanese government's military actions and statements by its officials.
Criticism of Japan's negative steps in the military and security spheres from the international community, including Southeast Asian countries, is loud and consistent, he noted.
Instead of repenting for its historical crimes and exercising caution in building up its military power, Japan is inventing various pretexts to accelerate its military expansion, brazenly exporting destructive weapons, and even demanding nuclear weapons, ignoring global opposition, Zhang Xiaogang added.
Such steps, according to a Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson, further expose the sinister intentions of Japanese right-wing forces to seek remilitarization and the revival of militarism.
“All peace-loving countries and peoples must recognize the hidden motives of the Japanese government, join efforts to prevent the revival of Japanese militarism, maintain the post-war international order, and safeguard peace and stability both in the region and throughout the world,” he said.
