Conakry, January 4 (Xinhua) — Guinea's Supreme Court on Sunday evening validated the final results of the December 28, 2025, presidential election, declaring Mamady Doumbouya the winner with 86.72 percent of the vote and proclaiming him President of Guinea.

At a press briefing, the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Fode Bangura, officially announced the election of M. Dumbuya as president for a seven-year term in accordance with the country's constitution.

BEIJING, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) — China's State Council has unveiled an action plan aimed at significantly enhancing the country's solid waste recycling capacity.

The plan prioritizes the treatment of solid waste that directly impacts public health and industrial safety, calls for the accelerated establishment of long-term integrated waste management mechanisms, and decisive measures to curb the growth of solid waste volumes.

According to the plan, by 2030, the annual volume of integrated recycling of large volumes of solid waste should reach 4.5 billion tons, and the annual volume of reuse of primary renewable resources should reach 510 million tons.

BEIJING, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) — State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Chen Binhua on Sunday warned that separatist forces will never be allowed to separate Taiwan from China under any pretext or by any means.

Chen Binhua made the statement while responding to a media question about a proposal by some lawmakers from Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to revise the island's current regulations on cross-strait relations.

According to the official representative of the office, this proposal disregards the prevailing public opinion in Taiwan and the well-being of the island's residents, openly challenges the historical and legal fact of Taiwan's belonging to China, and is a futile attempt to change the status quo, according to which there is only one China in the world, while the mainland and Taiwan belong to the same China.

Abuja, January 4 (Xinhua) — At least 25 people were killed and 14 are missing after a boat carrying mostly local fishermen and farmers capsized on the Kamadougou-Yobe River in northern Nigeria, emergency services and police said on Sunday.

Yobe state disaster management director Mohammed Goje said 13 other passengers were rescued after the boat capsized in Garbi township, Nguru local government area on Saturday evening.

The wooden boat capsized while en route from the neighboring village of Adiyani in the northwestern state of Jigawa to the northern state of Yobe, M. Goje said, adding that emergency services personnel and volunteers from local communities rushed to the aid of the victims.

Jigawa state police spokesman Lawan Shiisu told Xinhua by telephone on Sunday that at least 52 people were on board the "overloaded boat" when it departed from Adyani on Saturday evening.

L. Shiisu stated that the initial death toll was 14, but that number increased during the rescue operation. Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the incident.

Abuja, January 4 (Xinhua) — More than 30 people were killed and dozens were taken hostage when suspected terrorists attacked a village market in central Nigeria's Niger State amid renewed violence in the country, police said on Sunday.

Niger State Police Spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun told Xinhua by telephone that terrorists ransacked the Kasuwan-Daji market in Demo village, Kabe district, on Saturday evening.

“They also burned shops and took away food items,” said V. Abiodun, adding that the attackers entered the village from the side of the national park forest.

According to him, the attackers' motive remains unknown. A joint security team has already visited the village to investigate the incident and rescue the victims.

Some local media reports put the death toll at 37, citing residents who said there could be more casualties in the village.
