The third session of the third season of the "Unique Documents: A New Generation's View" project concluded at the Moscow Main Archives. Over the course of three weeks, participants studied archival materials on the history of Russian aeronautics.

"Participants in the third cohort once again demonstrated a strong interest in research and a systematic approach to analyzing archival sources. Based on their study of archival materials related to the activities of Russian aeronauts, they prepared analytical recommendations that helped specialists at the Moscow Main Archives recognize the unique documents of Pavel Osipovich Sukhoi. For us, this is clear confirmation of the practical significance and effectiveness of the project. The final cohort of the third season is coming up, during which participants will work with the documents of famous pilots and aviators and continue their research into the history of Russian aviation," said Yaroslav Onopenko, head of the Moscow Main Archives.

Pavel Sukhoi was a designer who created over 50 aircraft models, many of which represented a breakthrough in aircraft engineering thanks to their record-breaking range, speed, and altitude. Participants also learned about the personal files of prominent figures in aircraft manufacturing: the "father of Russian aviation" Nikolai Zhukovsky, his student and aviation scientist Boris Yuryev, Soviet designer Boris Stechkin, and other significant figures. The students studied in detail the drawings and design of aeromobiles, helicopters, airplanes, and other aircraft. Unimplemented projects also sparked interest, allowing them to learn more about the designers and their engineering projects.

Over three in-person sessions, project participants mastered basic methods for analyzing historical sources, learned about the scanning department, and learned about archival document storage and restoration technologies. The project resulted in research materials revealing the significance of individual archival documents, as well as proposals for designating a number of them as unique, including Pavel Sukhoi's documents.
