Moscow, July 11 /Xinhua/ — Resolution 2758 on the restoration of the legitimate rights of the People's Republic of China in the United Nations, adopted on October 25, 1971 at the 26th session of the UN General Assembly, is indisputable, and the one-China principle is unshakable. This was stated by the Ambassador of the PRC to the Russian Federation Zhang Hanhui in an opinion article published on Friday in the Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

Zhang Hanhui stressed that the one-China principle is a universally recognized consensus of the international community and the basic norm of international relations, and is not subject to any challenges or distortions. “The Government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing the whole of China. Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory. More than 180 countries, including the United States, have established diplomatic relations with China based on the one-China principle,” he recalled, adding that the UN and its specialized agencies have consistently followed the one-China principle on the Taiwan issue, clearly reaffirming Taiwan’s non-sovereign status and treating it as a province of China.
The Chinese ambassador noted that today some countries, led by the United States, are deliberately distorting and challenging UN General Assembly Resolution 2758, seeking to promote the false claim of the so-called “undefined status of Taiwan.” Zhang Hanhui is confident that their goal is to advance the strategy of “using Taiwan to contain China,” preventing China from achieving complete unification and national revival. Zhang Hanhui said it was unacceptable to perceive Taiwan as an independent state or political entity, to conduct official contacts with it in any form, and even more so to replace the one-China principle with their alleged “one-China policies.” “Otherwise, their actions will be regarded as erosion and devastation of this fundamental principle, and gross interference in China’s internal affairs, which seriously damage the political mutual trust between China and the relevant countries, and undermine the political foundation of bilateral relations,” the Chinese diplomat warned, adding that playing the “Taiwan card” and the desire to “contain China through Taiwan” are doomed to failure, and separatist actions of “Taiwan independence” are playing with fire.
