A significant international meeting took place at SPbPU. At the initiative of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg and the Consulate General of Hungary, a visit of representatives of the Consulate and Embassy of Hungary in Russia took place at the Polytechnic University, aimed at restoring academic and scientific cooperation.

The delegation included Deputy Consul General of Hungary in St. Petersburg Bela Báthory and Attaché for Education, Science and Technology of the Embassy of Hungary in Russia András Márfi. Despite the difficult international situation, the Hungarian representatives particularly emphasized that science and education should remain outside politics. András Márfi and Báthory noted that Hungary consistently seeks opportunities to develop interaction and preserve existing developments in academic cooperation tracks with Russian universities, within the framework of accessible formats of international cooperation.

The negotiations were attended by the Vice-Rector for International Affairs Dmitry Arsenyev and employees of international services supervising international cooperation and academic mobility from the Polytechnic University. The meeting was held in a constructive manner and was devoted to finding practical ways to intensify cooperation between the universities of the two countries.

The central topic of discussion was scholarship support programs for students from Russia and Hungary. The current positive dynamics were noted. SPbPU provided detailed information on opportunities for Hungarian students in Russia, including quotas of the Russian Government and a unique project of the Global Universities Association — the international Olympiad "Open Doors: Russian Scholarship". Winning this Olympiad gives the right to free education in the bachelor's, master's or postgraduate programs of any leading Russian university, including SPbPU, regardless of the allocated quotas.

The parties discussed the resumption of student and faculty exchange programs, as well as prospects for creating joint educational programs, in particular in engineering, economics and biomedicine. The Russian side emphasized its readiness to sign new inter-university agreements, which will be preliminarily agreed upon with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia.

Dmitry Arsenyev recalled the long-standing and strong ties between SPbPU and its Hungarian colleagues, in particular with the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. An important step in developing the dialogue will be the upcoming meeting of the Russian-Hungarian intergovernmental commission in Moscow in December 2025, where a separate working group on higher education will operate. It is expected that representatives of the rectors' corps of both countries will take part in it.

The delegation's visit became a significant practical step in establishing direct contacts between the academic circles of Russia and Hungary. The parties agreed to intensify interaction in developing opportunities for scientific and educational cooperation.

The Institute of Civil Engineering of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University has summed up the results of this year's admission campaign. The results once again confirmed the high level of trust of applicants in one of the most prestigious institutes in the country, which continues to prepare professionals to solve the most complex problems of modern construction.

Following the 2025 admissions campaign, ISI accepted more than 1,200 students, 43 of whom were admitted without entrance examinations due to outstanding achievements in Olympiads and competitions. The passing scores for the Construction program were 244 points, and for the Construction of Unique Buildings and Structures program — 266 points for the main competitive places. More than 1,000 applicants choose ISI annually, which indicates its stable popularity among future students.

Today, the Civil Engineering Institute trains specialists in six areas of training: "Construction", "Construction of Unique Buildings and Structures", "Design" and "Design of the Architectural Environment", "Urban Planning", and "Technosphere Safety". Based on the rich heritage of the hydraulic engineering faculty and the achievements of outstanding scientists, the institute is forming a new generation of highly qualified engineers ready to solve urgent problems of the construction industry.

The history of the Civil Engineering Institute dates back to 1907. Since its foundation, the Institute has always been a leading educational center for training personnel for the construction industry, producing highly qualified specialists of international level, whose knowledge and experience formed the basis for the creation of unique facilities throughout Russia and beyond.

A special place in history is occupied by the Faculty of Hydrotechnics, which from 1934 to 1999 became the center for training engineers for the largest hydrotechnical projects. Currently, there are no hydroelectric power plants in Russia in the justification, design and construction of which graduates of the Faculty of Hydrotechnics would not have participated. The same can be said about hydrotechnical facilities in the former republics of the USSR, now sovereign states. Many graduates participated in the design and construction of facilities in Vietnam, Egypt, Syria, Turkey and other countries. Particular pride is caused by the participation of the faculty in the justification of a complex of protective structures for St. Petersburg from floods.

The faculty of that period employed outstanding scientists whose names have received wide recognition not only in Russia but also abroad. Among them were A. Z. Basevich, A. V. Belov, P. I. Vasiliev, P. D. Glebov, S. S. Galushkevich, O. G. Dietz, N. V. Zarubaev, P. L. Ivanov, B. D. Kachanovsky, V. S. Knoroz, M. P. Kozhevnikov, I. I. Levi, V. E. Lyakhnitsky, A. L. Mozhevitinov, A. A. Morozov, S. D. Okorokov, A. A. Sabaneev, N. A. Filimonov, V. A. Florin, Yu. I. Yagn, M. D. Chertousov, R. R. Chugaev, D. S. Shchavelev. Their scientific achievements had a significant impact on the development of the construction industry and engineering.

Today, the Civil Engineering Institute continues the tradition of high-quality training of specialists, following its mission – to educate engineers who provide technological and cognitive leadership in the construction industry of the Russian Federation. Over the past few years, it has consistently confirmed its reputation as an advanced educational center in the field of construction. According to the RAEX Agency, the Civil Engineering Institute has received the highest rating among Russian construction universities for the third year in a row.

Students of the ISI demonstrate high achievements at various competition venues. In 2021–2024, they became permanent winners of the International Construction Championship in the competencies of “Information Modeling and Modeling” and “Design of the Architectural and Construction Part”, the annual all-Russian competition “Energy of Development” of PJSC RusHydro, finalists of all-Russian and international architectural project competitions, for example, the all-Russian competition of sketch designs for the Yaroslavl airport complex, participants in the “I am a Professional” program and many others. Particularly noteworthy is the victory of the ISI “PoliTechExpert” team in the final of the Interuniversity Engineering Competition “PrimeTechKursk 2024”, as well as the successful performance of students in the “Team Leaders 2023/24” and BRICS Future Skills competitions

The modern Civil Engineering Institute is based on 4 higher schools: the Higher School of Industrial, Civil and Road Construction, the Higher School of Hydraulic and Power Engineering, the Higher School of Design and Architecture, the Higher School of Technosphere Safety, three basic departments – "Fire Safety" based on Gefest LLC, "Agrophysical Engineering" based on the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution "Agrophysical Research Institute" and "Urban Planning" based on the Research Institute of Advanced Urban Planning LLC, the Center for Additional Professional Programs, preparatory courses and the Magazine of Civil Engineering. The ISI implements 7 postgraduate programs and 6 dissertation councils.

The Civil Engineering Institute works with more than 100 industrial partners representing the largest corporations, leading design and construction organizations of the Russian Federation: Rosatom, PJSC RusHydro, Severstal, Gazprom Neft, PJSC Samolet Group of Companies, Setl Group, Glavstroy Saint Petersburg, Brusnika, IRBIS Engineering Corporation, JSC Titan-2 Concern, JSC Lenmorniiproekt, JSC ETALON Group of Companies, and the NOTECH Association. Partnership with these organizations allows the Institute to introduce current practices and technologies into the educational process, as well as to ensure a high level of training for specialists in the construction industry.

The Civil Engineering Institute, preserving centuries-old traditions of quality training of specialists, continues to train the future engineering and creative elite of the country. Relying on the rich heritage of the hydrotechnical faculty and the achievements of outstanding scientists, the institute forms a new generation of highly qualified engineers ready to solve the most complex problems of modern construction.

BEIJING, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) — Alashankou City, located in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR) on the border of China and Kazakhstan, has been actively leveraging its unique geographical advantages to promote the integrated development of culture and tourism, according to an article posted on the official website of the Alashankou City Hall.

As the hub of China's opening up to the West, Alashankou serves as an important channel for the development of China's trade and economic ties with Central Asia and even Europe. XUAR and Alashankou in particular are rich in tourism resources. All these factors have laid a solid foundation for the development of cultural tourism in Alashankou.

In recent years, Alashankou, taking advantage of the historical opportunities created by the Belt and Road Initiative, has been actively developing border and cross-border tourism and has taken a series of policies to promote the prosperity of local cultural tourism.

Alashankou City pays special attention to the integration of tourism resources of China and Kazakhstan and the establishment of a cross-border tourism service system. In accordance with the needs of tourists, the city government has launched specific cross-border routes such as trade and shopping routes and scenic tour routes in cooperation with the tourism department of Kazakhstan. At the same time, it has taken a leading role in formulating unified pricing standards for services to promote the healthy development of the tourism market, promoting cooperation between local enterprises and tourism companies in Kazakhstan to jointly develop cross-border tourism routes and form a resource sharing mechanism.

"The two-day tour of Lake Alakol that we launched is a completely new and popular tourist route. We will take tourists to Lake Alakol and introduce them to local exotic customs. In the future, we plan to launch a 5-day tour and a 7-day tour of Lake Alakol, and we also intend to switch to longer routes to Almaty," the branch of Xinjiang Jinqiao International Travel Agency in Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, where the city of Alashankou is located, reported.

The implementation of the mutual visa exemption policy between China and Kazakhstan in 2023 has opened up great opportunities for the development of the tourism industry in Alashankou. This city, which used to be just a border crossing, is now turning into an important tourist destination.

As of August 27 this year, Alashankou City had received a total of over 1.5 million tourists, with tourism revenue reaching 851 million yuan (about 120 million US dollars), up 50 percent and 49.33 percent year-on-year, respectively. In particular, 82,000 inbound and outbound trips were recorded here, with an increase of 0.98 percent year-on-year.

In order to make tourists enjoy their travels more, Alashankou City has been actively improving its tourism infrastructure. From the second half of 2023 to the beginning of 2025, the number of hotels in this city increased from 11 to 25, the number of beds increased from 987 to more than 2,650, and the number of restaurants increased by 80 establishments.

"During the tourist season last year, there was a great demand for hotel services, and it was often difficult to book a hotel in Alashankou. Since hotels in the city were unable to fully meet the existing needs, the Xiyu International Hotel in Alashankou was built and put into operation this year," the hotel said. "The new hotel has more than 50 rooms, which effectively supplemented the local hotel resources," a representative of the Xiyu Hotel added.

This year, Alashankou City continues to work hard to improve its cultural and tourism infrastructure. In particular, on May 1, a renovated tourist service center was put into operation, which provides better services. In June, the Alashankou swimming pool was restored, which expanded the opportunities for recreation and entertainment for tourists. Projects such as the construction of a fitness center and the modernization of border cultural tourism facilities are being systematically implemented.

Alashankou is currently in talks with Kazakhstan to promote cross-border self-driving tours, a one-day tour of Dostyk and other routes to give tourists a deeper insight into Central Asian customs. The city is also pushing ahead with an application to establish a national pilot zone for cross-border tourism to deepen tourism cooperation with Central Asian countries. -0-

The Russian Cultural Center in Beijing hosted a hugely successful evening of Russian ballet, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian ballerina Maya Plisetskaya. Leading artists of the Mikhailovsky Theater from St. Petersburg took part in the event: prima ballerina, Honored Artist of Russia Irina Perren and first soloist, Honored Artist of St. Petersburg Marat Shemiunov.

The artists presented a rich program that demonstrated the full range of their virtuoso skills and artistry. The audience witnessed a unique journey through different eras and styles of world ballet.

The evening began with the lyrical and cosmic “Starry Sky” performed by Irina Perren.

The audience saw Maurice Ravel's passionate "Bolero", staged based on the choreography of Bronislava Nijinska.

One of the highlights of the evening was the immortal miniature “The Dying Swan” to the music of Camille Saint-Saëns, where Irina Perrin conveyed all the depth and tragedy of the image.

The final chord of the program was a scene from the ballet “The Firebird” by Igor Stravinsky, choreographed by Mikhail Fokin – bright, fiery and full of the magic of a Russian fairy tale.

A special place in the program was given to the story of the creative path and artistic legacy of Maya Plisetskaya, one of the greatest ballerinas of the 20th century, whose art had a huge influence on the development of world ballet.

The performance of the Mikhailovsky Theatre stars was met with thunderous applause from the Beijing audience, confirming that high art knows no boundaries and speaks a language that is understandable to the heart without translation.
