SHANGHAI, February 28 (Xinhua) — The China-SCO Collaboration Center for Metabolic Diseases was established in the eastern Chinese metropolis of Shanghai on Friday. The opening ceremony was attended by Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev and Deputy Head of the National Health Commission of China Zheng Zhe.

The new center is based at the prestigious Ruijin Hospital affiliated with the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Medical College. As Shanghai's first national-level platform for specialized professional cooperation within the SCO, the center aims to coordinate the efforts of SCO countries to jointly address issues related to metabolic diseases and develop systemic management in this area, thereby contributing to improving the well-being of the people of all member states.

The center is expected to train 2,000 medical professionals from SCO countries in the monitoring and prevention of metabolic diseases within three years, and to disseminate 500 units of medical and therapeutic technologies throughout the region covered by the organization.

In addition, the center will take the initiative to establish a forum on metabolic medicine within the SCO to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the field of healthcare among the countries of this organization.

Open medical data shows that metabolic diseases pose one of the most serious threats to human health in the 21st century. Metabolic disorders such as diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and closely related cancers and premature aging syndromes have already become the leading killers of non-communicable diseases in the SCO region.

La Paz, February 27 (Xinhua) — At least 15 people were killed and 30 others injured when a Bolivian Air Force plane crashed Friday evening in El Alto, western Bolivia, local media reported.

A Bolivian Air Force Hercules C-130 skidded off the runway while landing at El Alto International Airport and crashed into several vehicles, according to the fire department.

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) — The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on Friday announced changes to its Artemis lunar exploration program, adding a mission before the planned crewed lunar landing and delaying the landing from 2027 to 2028.
