Beijing, March 1 (Xinhua) — China firmly opposes and strongly condemns the attack on and assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Sunday.

The Chinese diplomat made the statement while commenting at the request of journalists on the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as a result of military strikes on Tehran carried out by the United States and Israel on Saturday.

The attack on and assassination of Iran's supreme leader is a gross violation of Iran's sovereignty and security, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman noted, noting that it violates the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, as well as the basic norms of international relations.

The official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry added that China calls for an immediate end to military operations, preventing further escalation of the tense situation, and jointly maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East and throughout the world. –0–

From a Shenxian County Nursery to Greenhouses in Russia: The Transnational Business of Seedling Grafting Specialists in China's Shandong Province

JINAN, March 1 (Xinhua) — "I never thought that with my seedling grafting skills I could go abroad to work," Wu Fenxia, 41, a resident of Wanfeng Township, Shenxian County, eastern China's Shandong Province, said by phone.

This year, on the fifth day of the first month of the lunar calendar (February 21), she, taking her usual tools, went with colleagues from Shandong to the greenhouse complex of one of the agricultural parks in the Irkutsk region of Russia to graft cucumber seedlings.

This is her third trip to Russia to earn money. This time, she specifically packed peanuts grown in her garden. "To create a homey, festive spirit," she notes.

Shenxian County, located in western Shandong Province, is a major vegetable producer in China. The rapid development of vegetable farming not only effectively stimulates the local economy but also creates and develops the profession of "grafting."

In 2018, Wu Fenxia attended free vaccination courses organized in the village and mastered the skill.

"I used to only see people flying on airplanes on TV, but now I can fly abroad myself. With good skills, you can keep your head up wherever you go," she says.

Wu Fenxia spends less than 10 seconds grafting a single seedling, with a survival rate of around 95% year-round. "Foreigners once asked me through a translator if this kind of grafting was Chinese kung fu," she says with amusement.

Successful grafting improves crop resistance to diseases and pests, increases yields, helps speed up the market availability of melons and vegetables, and, most importantly, ensures year-round vegetable availability. Currently, Shenxian County has over 30,000 grafting specialists, capable of grafting up to 1.5 billion seedlings annually.

Working in local nurseries, grafting specialists also fulfill orders from across China and the world, transforming agricultural labor into a "transnational business." According to Kong Hongxia, head of the Shenxian County Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, local authorities are directing labor export teams to establish recruitment agencies that, based on the needs of seedling-growing companies, operate under a "company order – recruitment agency" model, turning the grafting profession into a specialized local brand.

Kang Jinhua, the team leader of Wu Fenxia's grafting team, explains, "In 2017, an agricultural park in Russia contacted us through a recruiting agency and proposed cooperation." For many years, this team has been sending its members to Russia annually to graft melon seedlings. During peak periods, up to forty to fifty grafting specialists traveled abroad. They visited Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other cities, earning a good reputation and forming friendships with their Russian colleagues.

When a trade used to make a living becomes a gateway to travel abroad, grafting specialists from western Shandong not only bring Chinese agricultural technologies to the world but also experience the wider world firsthand. "When people ask me what I'm doing now, I proudly answer: 'I'm using Chinese technology and grafting melon seedlings in Russia,'" says Wu Fenxia. -0-

Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, along with Arkhangelsk Region Governor Alexander Tsybulsky, met with the leadership of the Arkhangelsk education system and School No. 7. They explored the capabilities of the phygital center, which opened in early February at the largest secondary school in Pomorye, and assessed its operations and current curricula.

"In the Arkhangelsk Region, under the national project 'Youth and Children,' an inter-university campus is being established, the 'Zemsky Teacher' program is being implemented, and the educational infrastructure is being improved. Ahead of Mentor Day, established by decree of President Vladimir Putin, we met with the leadership of the education system and the school where the 'IT Cube' and phygital center are open. There is much to be proud of and room for improvement. I am confident that the school will be able to fully realize its potential, including the growth of the phygital movement. I congratulate all the mentors in the region on the upcoming holiday!" the Deputy Prime Minister said.

The Phygital Center was created at the behest of the regional governor as part of the federal project "Business Sprint (I Choose Sports)" to develop new sports in the region and encourage regular physical activity among schoolchildren through the phygital movement, which combines physical exercise and digital technologies.

The sports cluster features functional spaces with areas for eSports and traditional sports. The new center offers unique training and competition opportunities that combine physical activity and digital technology. The complex features a modern computer room with powerful gaming computers and a dedicated area for console and virtual reality gaming. A VR simulator and gaming consoles have also been installed. "This creates an attractive space where our youth can develop their talents and, most importantly, improve their health. The opening of the center will definitely increase the number of young people interested in the phygital field," noted Alexander Tsybulsky.

Arkhangelsk School No. 7 also boasts three gyms and a swimming pool. Last fall, a new football field, built to Russian Football Union standards, opened on the school grounds. Combined with a modern phygital center equipped with the latest technology, the school's infrastructure allows for the development of phygital disciplines such as eSports, laser tag, drone racing, martial arts, competitive programming, and basketball and football combined events.

School No. 7 also houses an "IT Cube," which, unlike the Quantoriums, is a digital education center with a focus on information technology. Students here follow programs designed to accelerate the development of relevant and in-demand IT skills, and also learn about programming, robotics, and hardware. Students can develop apps and explore virtual and augmented reality. Modern computer equipment has been purchased for this purpose, enabling them to work with large databases and effectively teach programming languages.

Document

Order No. 378-r of February 26, 2026

By 2030, Russia plans to launch a proactive model for providing state support to industrial enterprises based on the state industrial information system. The goal of creating such an automated service is included in the updated strategic direction for digital transformation (SDDT) of manufacturing industries. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed an order approving the relevant amendments to the current document.

The updated strategic direction also clarifies the priority goals and objectives of digital transformation. By 2030, at least 80% of Russian enterprises and companies in the manufacturing industry must transition to using Russian software in systems supporting core production and management processes. By the same date, the use of Russian software in companies and organizations with over 50% state participation must increase to 95%.

The introduction of advanced information technologies should impact production volumes. By 2030, it is expected to increase by at least 40% compared to 2022 levels.

The strategic direction for digital transformation in the manufacturing industry was approved by the Government in November 2023. It envisages the implementation of five key ecosystem projects: "Smart Manufacturing," "Digital Engineering," "Products of the Future," "Trusted Solutions," and "Intelligent State Support."

Since the SNCT is part of the Consolidated Strategy for the Development of the Manufacturing Industry until 2030 and for the period until 2035, corresponding changes were also made to this document.
