BEIJING, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) — China's foreign exchange reserves stood at 3.2922 trillion U.S. dollars as of the end of July 2025, down 25.2 billion U.S. dollars or 0.76 percent from the level at the end of June this year, data released by the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) showed Thursday.

The US dollar index rose last month, while global financial asset prices generally showed mixed movements, influenced by factors such as macroeconomic data, monetary policy and expectations of leading economies, the GUVK reported.

The department said the decline in China's foreign exchange reserves in July was due to fluctuations in exchange rates and changes in asset prices.

The Chinese economy has a solid foundation, many advantages, high stability and great potential, while in the long term, favorable conditions and main trends have not changed, which helps maintain foreign exchange reserves at a stable level in general, the State Foreign Exchange Committee said. -0-

BEIJING, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) — China has set up a joint task force to lead the response and investigation into the suspension bridge incident at a scenic park in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region that left five people dead and 24 injured.

A joint task force formed by the Work Safety Commission of the State Council, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the State Forestry and Grassland Administration has been dispatched to the scene in Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture in northern Xinjiang, the Ministry of Emergency Management (MEM) said on Thursday.

The incident occurred at 6:18 p.m. in Zhaosu County, Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, when one of the bridge's supporting cables snapped, causing the bridge deck to tilt and causing a total of 29 people to fall.

The joint working group will instruct local authorities on how to provide assistance to victims, eliminate the consequences of the accident and investigate the circumstances and causes of the tragedy.

URUMQI, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) — The Przewalski's horse population in China has exceeded 900, accounting for one-third of the world's total. The achievement has been hailed by the international community as a successful example of reintroduction, according to an event held in Urumqi, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, to mark the 40th anniversary of the reintroduction of Przewalski's horses to China.

Przewalski's horse is considered the only species of wild horse living on our planet today. Its evolutionary history spans 60 million years, and its historical homeland was the Dzungarian Basin in Xinjiang and some areas of Mongolia. Przewalski's horse is a first-category protected wild animal in China.

In 1985, China launched a program to reintroduce Przewalski's horses from abroad. Breeding bases were established in Xinjiang and neighboring Gansu Province.

A scientific approach to conservation, the development of a special monitoring system, habitat improvement and active attempts to return the ungulate to the wild have contributed to a gradual and stable increase in the population of this animal.

According to Yu Minhai, deputy head of the Forestry and Grassland Administration of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the Xinjiang Wild Horse Breeding and Research Center, the largest Przewalski's horse breeding base in Asia, has managed to breed more than 800 animals and release 146 of them into the wild. There are currently 546 Przewalski's horses in Xinjiang.

To expand the population's geographic distribution, Xinjiang has in recent years donated 41 Przewalski's horses to Mongolia, as well as Gansu Province, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The interregional cooperation helps provide a larger and more diverse habitat that is beneficial for the recovery of the endangered species.

As it became known, in Gansu province the number of Przewalski's horses has already reached 250 individuals.

"The increase in the Przewalski's horse population is the result of multilateral cooperation," said Li Linhai, deputy secretary general of the China Wildlife Conservation Association. According to him, the subspecies' return from the brink of extinction clearly illustrates China's achievements in conservation. -0-

GUANGZHOU, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) — The total number of people entering China through the checkpoint at Baiyun International Airport in Guangzhou City, south China's Guangdong Province, has exceeded 10 million as of Aug. 6 since the beginning of 2025, the airport's border control agency said.

The 10 million mark was passed 41 days earlier than the 2024 target. Foreign citizens accounted for 3.82 million crossings, up 37.4 percent from the previous year, ranking Baiyun Airport first among China's largest airports.

One of the main reasons for the significant growth is the increase in the number of flights: 18 scheduled international passenger air routes were opened or resumed for the first time in 2025. Currently, the airport serves 75 passenger and 46 cargo international routes every week.

The simplified entry regime into China for foreign citizens also played a role. During the reporting period, the total number of crossings through the Baiyun Airport checkpoint by foreign citizens entering the country without a visa exceeded 760 thousand person-times, an increase of 123.5 percent year-on-year. This figure accounted for almost 50 percent of the total number of foreigners entering China during the specified period through the Baiyun Airport checkpoint. -0-

The Moscow-2024 series trains are some of the most technologically advanced trains in the world, combining comfort and safety.

Today they operate on the Zamoskvoretskaya and Troitskaya metro lines. The cards tell us what is special about the Moscow-2024 trains.

"On the instructions of Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, we regularly update the rolling stock of the Moscow Metro. This year, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, we signed the world's largest contract for the supply of new trains. In 2026 and 2027, we will receive more than 700 of the most modern cars of the Moscow-2026 series. Over the past 15 years, the share of new trains in the metro has grown from about 13% to 77%. We plan that in 2030 this figure will increase to more than 90%, and there will be no metro lines without modern trains," said Maxim Liksutov.

The Ministry of Economic Development has named the top 10 regions where hotels and motels are more actively undergoing classification than others

Russian Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov and State Secretary – Deputy Minister Alexey Khersontsev held a meeting with regions on the pace of classification of accommodation facilities, where they summed up the interim results, highlighting the regions that are leaders in the implementation of the classification reform.

The subjects that have most actively participated in the process include the Altai Republic, Kaliningrad Region, Astrakhan Region, Altai Krai, the Republic of Tatarstan, Nizhny Novgorod Region, Moscow, Chelyabinsk Region, Samara Region and Sverdlovsk Region.

"We thank these regions for their prompt work. Their experience shows that with close cooperation with business, reform is faster and more effective," noted Maxim Reshetnikov.

The key innovations from January 1 this year are the introduction of mandatory classification for new types of tourist accommodation and the division of classification into two stages. Now, not only hotels are subject to classification, but also campsites, recreation centers, including glamping.

To legally operate, all owners of accommodation facilities must pass the first stage of classification – self-assessment. The result of passing the self-assessment is inclusion in the register of classified accommodation facilities, published on the Rosaccreditation website. The procedure for inclusion in the register is extremely simple: owners independently enter data about their facilities. This is a mandatory step for the legal provision of services. Since March 1, regions have been monitoring compliance with this requirement. If it is discovered that services are being provided by an accommodation facility that is not included in the register, it is issued an order to undergo a self-assessment. If such an order is not followed, the entrepreneur may be fined.

If a hotel or sanatorium provides higher quality services, they can go through the second stage – receiving a category ("stars"). To do this, you need to contact an accredited organization using your personal account in the registry.

“The reform is aimed at giving tourists more options to choose from and allowing businesses to operate in fair conditions,” stressed Maxim Reshetnikov.

To combat illegal posting, site monitoring, on-site inspections and test purchases are used. 2,487 warnings have already been issued, the largest number being in Moscow (629), Krasnoyarsk Krai (353) and St. Petersburg (213).

The reform should be completed by September 1, 2025, after which all accommodation facilities that have not passed the self-assessment will be automatically suspended from the register and will not be able to sell services on booking aggregator websites. Also, from September 6, fines will come into effect – for absence from the register and for inaccurate information on aggregators.

"Our task is to help businesses adapt and, if possible, avoid such fines. Therefore, we ask the regions to strengthen their interaction with accommodation facilities: to consult, conduct information campaigns, and conduct preventive visits," said State Secretary – Deputy Minister Oleksiy Khersontsev.

"There is a month left until September 1 – the deadline for completing the self-assessment. The Ministry of Economic Development, together with Rosaccreditation, has created all the necessary legal and technical instruments for implementing the reform. Tourists must receive reliable information – this is the basis for trust and development of the industry," the minister summed up.

Regions have been instructed to strengthen their work with businesses and ensure that as many as possible complete self-assessments by September 1.
