On the eve of the new academic year, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University celebrated an important event again— the beginning of the school journey of the children of its employees. 88 boys and girls, who will go to first grade for the first time in 2025, received gift school sets.

A real holiday of knowledge was organized in the research building of Technopolis Polytech. Children sang songs from their favorite cartoons and danced to cheerful melodies. Of course, conversations quickly began and new friends were made. "How old are you?" one girl asked. "I'm seven, I'm already in first grade," another proudly answered. And soon the children were surprised to find out that each of them was starting their own exciting journey into the world of knowledge.

We are very glad that today you came to visit your moms and dads, grandmas and grandpas at work. We hope that you will visit the Polytechnic more and more often, and then enroll in our university. You have a wonderful time ahead of you. Fun moments, new friends and good people await you. I wish you to go through this path with interest and responsibility, and also to gain a lot of knowledge. And I would like to wish strength and patience to parents, grandmas and grandpas, – Vice-Rector for Information, Youth Policy and Security Maxim Pasholikov greeted the young guests.

The characters of the fairy tale "The Golden Key" – Buratino, Malvina, Harlequin, Basilio the cat and Alice the fox – turned the science building into a magical land of adventures, organizing interactive games, tricks, quizzes and mini-experiments for the first-graders. The children watched in fascination as clouds of multi-colored soap bubbles floated in the air.

Of course, there were gifts. The children received capacious bags with a set of stationery, balloons and bracelets with the Polytechnic symbols. In the finale, Harlequin invited the first-graders on an exciting journey to the second floor, where ice cream, juices and water were waiting for them in the cafe.

Lyudmila Chishko came to the celebration with her two granddaughters – Valeria, who is going to first grade this year, and Polina, who will become a first grader in three years.

We really hope that both granddaughters will one day study at this glorious university. My son Sergey Chishko is a research engineer at the Engineering Center "Computer Engineering Center". My daughter-in-law is also a graduate of the Polytechnic University. When they got married nine years ago, just unveiled a monument to Saints Peter and Fevronia on the university grounds. They were photographed on their wedding day, and they entered the history of the Polytechnic University, said Lyudmila Gennadyevna.

When my son saw a backpack with the Polytechnic logo, he immediately said: "Now I am also a Polytechnician." It is incredible to feel that your child is already a part of something big, – shared the director of the Center for Additional Professional Programs of the Civil Engineering Institute Ksenia Strelets.

The initiator of the holiday for first-graders was the SPbPU Human Resources Directorate.

We really wanted the children of our polytechnics to remember the beginning of their studies with pleasant emotions. We are happy to give them the opportunity to start their school journey with unforgettable impressions and gifts, to expand their understanding of the place where their parents work. On my own behalf, I can say that I was happy to see such bright smiles and sincere interest in our little guests. We are looking forward to the next meetings and new joint adventures, – noted the head of the HR Directorate Maria Pakhomova.

Each branded set included a bag for changing shoes, a white T-shirt, a pencil case, pens, an eraser, a map case, a ruler, markers, an album, notebooks, a bottle for drinking, and reflectors. The gift became not only help for the beginning of the school year, but also a symbol of attention from the native university of the father and mother, as well as a reminder that children and adults are part of a large and friendly polytechnic family.

JUBA, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) — The World Food Programme (WFP) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) have received US$65 million to support efforts to build the resilience of vulnerable communities in South Sudan, the two organizations said in a joint statement released in the South Sudanese capital Juba on Thursday.

The statement said that under the second phase of the joint resilience project in South Sudan, funding will be directed to assist almost one million people in urban and peri-urban areas of Juba, Torit, Yambio and Aweil.

UNICEF Representative in South Sudan Noala Skinner said the support would have a profound impact on the country, where an estimated 9.3 million people (about 70 percent of the population) are in need of humanitarian assistance.

“This will enable UNICEF to scale up critical interventions from treating acute malnutrition and providing access to clean water to providing essential health and education services and protecting children,” said Skinner.

WFP Acting Country Director for South Sudan Adam Effendi said the support was not just aid, but an investment in long-term resilience, food security and people's dignity. –0–

BEIJING, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) — The Made in Russia festival and fair was held for the first time in Beijing on Thursday, where local residents actively bought sweets, drinks, souvenirs and folk art products from different parts of Russia.

At the opening ceremony, Veronika Nikishina, Director General of the Russian Export Center (REC), made a video address. “The festival is taking place during the celebration of Chinese Valentine's Day, and this is very symbolic, because Russian culture, our goods and traditions are all imbued with love and mutual respect. These values are also the basis of friendship between our peoples,” she said.

This year, Chinese Valentine's Day (Qixi Festival) fell on August 29.

V. Nikishina also reported that the REC is currently developing trade infrastructure, creating national expositions and representative offices, opening permanent offline and online points of sale in order to strengthen the trust of Chinese consumers in Russian goods, develop cultural ties and expand opportunities for cooperation.

The highlight of the first day of the festival was Kamila Valieva's exclusive ice show. A Chinese fan with the surname Zhang came to the festival from Shanxi Province especially for the skater's performance and said: "I have been a devoted fan of Kamila for three years, K-bao /a nickname that Chinese fans have come up with for K. Valieva, literally meaning "Little K"/ always gives me strength and confidence."

At the opening ceremony, K. Valieva, in turn, noted: “I have always admired Chinese culture, its rich history and traditions, and the love and support of my Chinese fans, who affectionately call me K-bao, inspire me every day.”

The presence of a popular figure skater in China emphasized the importance of cultural and business exchanges between Russia and China. Thus, the Made in Russia festival-fair went beyond the scope of a trade event and became a platform for synergy in promoting Russian products, culture, sports and traditions.

Since its inception, the Made in Russia festival and fair has helped Russian enterprises enter the Chinese market and increase the recognition of their products.

Representative of the company "Makfa" Denis Danko, who is participating in the fair for the 6th time, noted that it helps local consumers get acquainted with Russian goods.

The General Director of the Khotkovo Factory of Carved Art Products, Vitaly Khrulyov, in turn, emphasized that such events significantly contribute to the development of trade between China and Russia, especially in conditions where Russian products are not yet as popular in China as Chinese brands in the Russian Federation.

Vice President of the Russian Export Center Tatyana An noted: “China is a very large country, we want to visit all the provinces and will try to be present in many of them, so of course, we have very big plans for next year in different regions – to hold our fairs and open stores. By the way, a “Made in Russia” store is opening in Beijing.” -0-

BEIJING, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) — The role of the United Nations should be strengthened, but at the same time the organization also needs reform, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu said on Friday.

"The serious crises of recent years have repeatedly reminded us that the role of the UN must be strengthened, not weakened. Its status must be preserved, not replaced," the deputy minister said at a press conference in Beijing.

According to him, the effectiveness of the UN depends on the compliance of member states with the UN Charter, as well as international law and the basic norms of international relations.

“At the same time, the UN needs reform and improvement to better respond to global challenges, and this especially concerns increasing the representation and voice of developing countries in international affairs,” Ma Zhaoxu stressed.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II, as well as the creation of the UN, which was a direct result of the war.

“Since its founding 80 years ago, the UN has carried with it the deep hopes of peoples around the world for peace and development. Today, the UN remains the most universal, authoritative and representative intergovernmental international organization,” the diplomat said.

The Deputy Minister noted that despite the significant progress of human civilization, there is still a long way to go to realize the wonderful vision set out in the UN Charter, especially due to the unilateral approach of individual countries, their unjustified withdrawal from international treaties and organizations, and the selective use of the UN.

Such actions, he said, seriously undermine international order and the international system.

Ma Zhaoxu further noted that China has taken a leading role in implementing genuine multilateralism and firmly supports the central role of the UN in international affairs.

"As the UN enters its next 80 years, China stands ready to work with all parties to enhance the role of the organization and build a more just and rational global governance system," the vice minister concluded. -0-

Pedagogical team "Youth": what is the best way to spend your summer?

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

For the student teaching team "Yunost", summer is not just a vacation, but a real rhythm of life, where every day is filled with events, emotions and a sense of responsibility. This year, the polytechnicians worked in children's health camps in the Leningrad Region: "Chaika", "Golubaya Strela" and "Meridian".

During the summer season, Yunost activists do not have lectures or notes on the counselor's business, but real situations arise that require a quick reaction, a creative approach and the ability to work in a team. Every day is a new challenge: from planning events to resolving conflicts, from morning exercises to an evening campfire. And if at the beginning it seems that three weeks is a lot, then by the end of the shift you understand how quickly time has flown and how much has happened.

The guys work not only as counselors, but also as club leaders, inspiring children to be creative, and also hold positions in the press center, preserving the most valuable moments. They even become substitute counselors, who are always ready to help during heavy workloads.

The guys admit that they do all this for the sake of emotions: children's laughter, gratitude from parents, observations of how boys and girls grow and become more self-confident. This is the most valuable feedback that helps to understand that everything is not just like that.

This shift became the best proof for me: there are no bad children – there is unspent energy that can be turned into creativity! I was lucky to work with very active and emotional children – yes, sometimes it was not easy, but this was our main advantage. As soon as we started talking about the upcoming concert, the squad quickly got down to work. As a result, we were repeatedly noted for our unconventional approach. And although we did not always receive awards, the main victories were not them at all, but the happy eyes of the children, their happy smiles and desire to create together, – shared a fighter of the SPO "Yunost" Tatyana Shmeleva.

Organizational issues caused a lot of trouble during the shift. And here the squad friends came to the rescue, who would support and not let you get bored.

The work season for the Yunost squad is not just a summer job, but a whole life. The guys gain experience and create valuable moments of their youth – the very ones that will warm the soul many years later. And all this thanks to working in a large and friendly team – the squad family.

Training of engineering personnel: Rector of SPbPU spoke at a meeting with Nikolai Patrushev

Rector of SPbPU Andrey Rudskoy took part in a meeting with heads of state authorities and organizations, which was chaired by Assistant to the President of Russia and Head of the Marine Collegium Nikolay Patrushev. The topic of the meeting was the priority tasks for the development of engineering education.

The main focus of the discussion was on the role of the new national higher education system in improving the quality of engineering training. The meeting participants paid special attention to federal educational and methodological associations (FEMA) as an important element of the new nationally oriented higher education system. In his report on this topic, SPbPU Rector Andrey Rudskoy analyzed the key success factors of the domestic FEMA system and emphasized the need to preserve and develop its fundamental principles during the upcoming update.

The history of FUMO began in 1988, when the country began the transition from a planned economy to a market economy. Until that time, the content and methods of education in a specific specialty for all higher education institutions were determined by one of them, appointed by the ministry. But in the conditions of the emerging market economy, this approach ceased to be effective. In order to take into account the diversity of the economy and the requirements of employers and, at the same time, to maintain a single educational space, a system of federal educational and methodological associations was created, in which all universities in the country were represented. At the same time, basic universities ceased to be the only developers of educational programs and methods, turning into coordinators and organizers of educational processes. Thanks to this reform, it was possible to combine the traditions of scientific and methodological schools of basic universities with the intellectual capabilities and interests of all interested universities in Russia and employers without exception.

"Now, when the system is being restarted, there is a good opportunity to use the fundamental principles of FUMO activities that have proven their effectiveness, modernizing them in accordance with modern requirements," Andrey Rudskoy concluded. "It is especially important to preserve and strengthen the potential of engineering FUMOs as highly professional communities based on unique scientific and methodological schools."

Li Yan, a junior research fellow at the China Institute of International Studies, published an article in the Tianjin Daily on August 20, stating that the SCO's comprehensive humanitarian cooperation has contributed to strengthening friendly ties between peoples.

The content of exchanges and cooperation in the humanitarian sphere of the SCO countries is very extensive. It covers culture, art, education, science, technology, health care, tourism, sports, mass media, women, youth and other aspects that are closely related to people's lives. The "Agreement between the governments of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on cooperation in the field of culture" signed in August 2007 is the main legal document for humanitarian cooperation. Based on this Agreement, specific action plans have been developed.

The SCO has held such popular brand projects as the Year of Culture, the Year of Tourism, the Year of Ecology, the Culinary Festival, the Film Festival, the Youth Festival, as well as various special projects such as the SCO Cultural and Tourism Capital, the SCO International Marathon, and the SCO Business Incubator International Youth Acceleration Program. The SCO University was established, and joint work on the protection of archaeological and cultural heritage and restoration was organized. Mechanisms for exchange between think tanks, such as the SCO Forum and the SCO Consortium of Economic Think Tanks, have been created, which actively promotes mutual understanding and rapprochement between the peoples of different countries. Many SCO countries have introduced a visa-free regime among themselves, which has made the movement of people more convenient, and exchanges in business, tourism, and culture closer.
