Rosneft has developed a program to preserve biodiversity in all regions of its operations.

Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

Source: Rosneft – An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Rosneft environmentalists have developed a standard corporate program for biodiversity conservation in all regions where the Company operates. The document was developed based on years of experience in biodiversity conservation research and projects, as well as a wealth of scientific data obtained during numerous environmental expeditions.

Experts from the A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Rosneft's Arctic Research Center, and the Company's research institute in Tyumen were involved in the research.

The program is the result of extensive work that resulted in the formation of a prioritized and comprehensive list of significant biological indicator species of marine and terrestrial mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles, fish, terrestrial invertebrates, zooplankton and phytoplankton, and terrestrial plants. The document contains a full description of each bioindicator species.

While working on the program, environmentalists compiled registers of specially protected natural areas in Russia that correspond to category 1a "Strict Nature Reserve" and category 1b "Wildlife Area" according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) classification. These natural sites have high ecological significance and are included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Registers of mandatory and additional biodiversity conservation measures implemented in 2018–2022 in the Company's regions of operation were also compiled.

The program takes into account the requirements and recommendations of Russian legislation in the field of biodiversity conservation, as well as the provisions of the Kunming-Montreal Global Framework Program and other international agreements, as well as the recommendations of international industry associations of oil and gas producers.

The document also includes a standard template for a biodiversity conservation program for subsidiaries. A pilot test is planned for a number of companies. Based on the results of the pilot project, it is planned to approve a unified standard program for the Company's biodiversity conservation, which will take into account the specifics of the region, the type of activity, and other criteria of the subsidiaries. This will significantly contribute to supporting national environmental projects.

Preservation and restoration of ecosystems and the implementation of biodiversity conservation programs are among Rosneft's strategic environmental goals.

Rosneft is implementing the largest Arctic flora and fauna study program since Soviet times. Over 13 years, more than 60 expeditions have been conducted, covering all Arctic seas, islands, and coastlines. During the course of the study, habitats were thoroughly explored and over 400 animals were examined, 140 individuals were tagged with satellite transmitters, and over 1,500 laboratory analyses were performed on collected biological samples.

Rosneft supports the Amur Tiger Center's efforts to increase the Amur tiger population and protect the environment within the predator's habitat. The Company's funds are being used to develop a comprehensive Amur tiger conservation system, including outside specially protected natural areas, equipping hunting control teams with modern technology and equipment to combat poaching, prey conservation, and the reduction of human-tiger conflicts. The project also includes population monitoring and scientific research on the largest cat on Earth, as well as outreach and educational activities. These joint efforts have helped increase the Amur tiger population, which currently exceeds 750 individuals, ensuring the conservation of this unique animal.

Rosneft subsidiaries also implement various conservation projects to study key flora and fauna species in the regions where they operate. In the Far East, 80 Steller's sea eagle nesting sites were discovered during the "Under a Strong Wing" project. The project aims to restore and preserve the population of this bird species. The data obtained served as the basis for developing a set of measures to protect the largest birds in the Far East, which are listed in the Red Book.

With the Company's support, specialists from the Central Siberian State Nature Reserve in Evenkia studied musk deer habitats. The scientists discovered that the population in an area previously considered unsuitable for these even-toed ungulates now numbers 300 individuals. The research findings open new avenues for protecting the small musk deer population from predators. The possibility of establishing a farm for breeding this animal, which is listed in the Red Data Book of several Russian regions and the IUCN Red List as vulnerable, is also being explored.

For 27 years, a monitoring program for the Okhotsk Sea population of gray whales, a rare, endangered species of marine mammal found in the northern Pacific Ocean, has been implemented in the Sakhalin Region.

The results of many years of scientific research are presented in a series of ecological atlases. Rosneft has published a number of scientific publications on the Company's activities, including those from expeditions. More than 60 indicator species are described in the atlas.Species – bioindicators of the state of marine Arctic ecosystems", published in 2020.

The company actively participated in various events within the national Ecology project from 2020 to 2023. Over 320 million rubles were allocated from 2019 to 2023 for a project to study the dynamics of key species—indicators of the sustainability of Arctic ecosystems.

In 2024, at the XXVII St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Rosneft signed a new agreement with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation on the joint implementation of a number of activities in 2024–2027 under the federal project "Conservation of Biodiversity and Development of Ecotourism" as part of the national project "Environmental Well-Being."

BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) — China is expanding its network of intellectual property (IP) rights protection centers, approving the establishment of a new national-level center in Dongguan, south China's Guangdong Province, the National Intellectual Property Administration (NIPA) said Tuesday.

The new center will facilitate rapid and coordinated work on IP protection for innovators in the smart terminals and new materials industries.

According to the GUIS, with the establishment of the new institution, the number of IP protection centers at the national level across the country has reached 81, of which seven are located in Guangdong Province.

The centres were established in key locations, including the provincial capital of Guangzhou and the city of Shenzhen, known as an innovation hub.

As a manufacturing hub, Dongguan, with a permanent population of over 10 million, has a GRP of over 1 trillion yuan (approximately US$141 billion), and boasts strong performance in scientific and technological innovation.

Once completed, the aforementioned center in Dongguan will function as a one-stop platform for consolidating IP protection service resources, promoting the integration of the innovation chain and industrial chain, according to a press release issued by the GUIS.

The new center in Dongguan will also strengthen coordination between all IP protection centers in Guangdong Province, creating a regional stronghold for this field and thereby stimulating high-quality economic development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou innovation cluster in the Greater Bay Area topped the "Global Innovation Index 2025" released by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), overtaking the Tokyo-Yokohama cluster in Japan for the first time to take first place. -0-

8,000 pine saplings were planted by employees of the Russian Agricultural Bank on Lake Aslykul in Bashkortostan.

A large-scale tree planting event was held in the Aslykul Natural Park, organized by the Ecology Foundation together with the local forestry department. About 60 employees and family members of the Bashkir branch of the agricultural bank took part in it. Volunteers planted about 8 thousand pine seedlings on four hectares of the lake’s coastal area. This is the first stage of the campaign – a total of 15,200 coniferous trees will be planted here. “Today we are making a contribution to the preservation of the largest lake in the Republic of Bashkortostan,” said Elmira Morozova, director of the Ecology Foundation, before planting. –  The Aslykul Nature Park is unique: 10 species of animals live on its territory and 40 species of plants listed in the Red Book grow. In recent years, the lake has been rapidly shallowing, and biodiversity in the natural park is declining. New forest plantations will help restore biological and landscape diversity and will play an important role in the fight against desertification of adjacent areas and drying out of the lake.” Forest restoration is carried out by the Ecology Foundation with funds from the sale of certificates in the retail network of the Russian Agricultural Bank. The Bashkir branch of the bank has been among the leaders in the sale of certificates among the regions for several years now. “We are saving one of the most beautiful and famous lakes in the republic not only with our work as volunteers, but also with financial support for this project,” noted branch director Alexey Samsonov. – Since the beginning of 2025, our branch has sold about 1,000 environmental certificates through its sales points. This impressive figure helped the foundation purchase a large number of seedlings. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the restoration of the lake – our sales managers, residents of the republic who bought certificates, and bank employees who readily decided to spend their day off with a shovel in their hands.”  Despite the gloomy weather, the volunteers worked with great enthusiasm, and children actively helped parents. The participants of the action were so inspired by the incredible beauty of the lake and the noble mission to save it that they planted more than half of the planting material at once – although the organizers of the action did not set such a goal for them. Not even the icy wind could stop warm hearts from doing a good deed.  And the rich shurpa, pilaf and tea with sweets after hard work seemed especially tasty. “Both I and my children are in a great mood,” shared a participant in the action, deputy director and head of the department for working with clients of large businesses, Elvira Kucherbaeva. “The daughter and son felt truly needed, doing an important job. In addition, working together for the benefit of nature is a great opportunity to spend time together in an interesting and useful way. We will be happy to come here with the whole family in the spring – now this place will become special for us.”
