NEW YORK, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) — The U.S. Senate voted 51-47 on Thursday to lift the national emergency declared by U.S. President Donald Trump when he imposed global tariffs in early April.

As The Washington Post reported on Thursday, the vote is symbolic because the US House of Representatives has barred voting on Trump's tariff repeal bills until the end of March next year.

While most Republicans voted against the measure, four Republicans joined Democrats in voting to end the national emergency.

Earlier this week, the Senate, with bipartisan support, passed two other resolutions aimed at eliminating tariffs on goods from Canada and Brazil, respectively.

This indicates that a growing number of American lawmakers disagree with the Trump administration's aggressive use of tariffs to alter US trade relations, the newspaper notes.

Having declared an international emergency due to the “large and persistent trade deficit” in international trade relations, D. Trump in early April imposed a 10 percent tariff on all countries and additional “equivalent” tariffs on countries that have the largest trade imbalance with the United States.

The US Supreme Court will hold a hearing on Donald Trump's tariffs on November 5. Two lower courts have found Donald Trump's tariffs illegal, and Donald Trump has appealed the case to the Supreme Court.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the United States collected approximately $88 billion in tax revenue from tariffs in August. SHANGHAI, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) — In September 2025, the tourist flow from Russia to Shanghai (east China) amounted to approximately 35,000 people, which is almost 50 percent more than in the same period in 2024, the municipal administration of culture and tourism reported.

Thus, the total tourist flow from Russia to Shanghai in the first three quarters of this year increased by 48% year-on-year to 243,000 person-times, allowing Russia to enter the top ten largest tourist sources for the metropolis.

This September, Russian Kirill Ratnikov visited Shanghai for the first time in many years. He says the city has changed dramatically. It's now immersed in greenery, which is refreshing and uplifting.

As a reminder, China has introduced a trial visa-free regime for holders of Russian passports from September 15, 2025, to September 14, 2026. Kirill is confident this will attract more Russian tourists to China.

“Economic and tourist exchanges between China and Russia are already very close, and the introduction of a visa-free regime will significantly reduce time costs and bureaucratic barriers for Russian citizens when traveling to China,” said Zhou Weihong, Deputy General Director of Shanghai Spring International Travel Service /Group/ Co., Ltd.

She said that in addition to Shanghai, Russian tourists also prefer cities like Sanya, which encourages cooperation between Chinese cities and tourism enterprises in developing more diverse tourist routes.

Rosneft routes recognized as the best for road trips in Russia

Rosneft won the "Best Auto Routes" award at the PRObrand-2025 international competition. An expert jury evaluated the Company's federal and regional routes, recognizing them as the benchmark for road trips across Russia.

The "Best Driving Routes" award was established to promote the most interesting and well-developed driving routes. In 2025, over 300 projects were submitted to the competition, posted on official regional tourism websites. A prestigious expert committee, including representatives of the tourism industry, the automotive community, and the media, assessed the routes' depth of development, their tourist appeal, and the availability of infrastructure.

Beijing, October 31 (Xinhua) — Currently, the checkpoint located at Xi'an Airport, the capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi Province, serves 53 international passenger air routes, covering 49 major cities in 24 countries, including seven cities in five Central Asian countries. This makes Xi'an Airport one of the country's hubs, with the largest number of destinations in Central Asia.

According to the China Daily, based on current data from the Shaanxi Border Control Agency, Xi'an is becoming the entry point for most foreigners traveling to China. As of October 29 of this year, the number of border crossings through Xi'an in both directions exceeded 1.7 million, a 53 percent increase year-on-year.

Visa-free travel has become a key driver of growth in the number of foreign tourists to China. This year, the number of foreigners arriving in China through the Xi'an port of entry exceeded 200,000, of whom 150,000 entered the country visa-free, accounting for 75 percent of the total.
