Gyeongju, South Korea, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday put forward a five-point proposal to advance win-win and inclusive economic globalization and build an Asia-Pacific community.

He put forward this proposal in his speech titled “Joining to shape a win-win, inclusive and open economy in the Asia-Pacific region” at the opening session of the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting.

Over the past 30-plus years since its founding, APEC has led the region in pursuing open development and contributed to the transformation of the Asia-Pacific region (APR) into the most economically dynamic region in the world, Xi Jinping noted.

Fifth, Xi Jinping called on Asia-Pacific economies to work together to promote mutually beneficial and inclusive development. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the concept of people-centered development, focusing on addressing development imbalances, and promoting a more inclusive and sustainable economic globalization for the benefit of the region's people.

At Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University a cross-university examination session was held over the course of two days, initiated by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and the Federal State Autonomous Institution "Sociocenter".

Intensive work involving university leadership, institute directors, heads of research laboratories, faculty, and industry representatives was designed to assess the universities' implementation of development programs, highlight successful practices and problem areas, identify areas for growth, and prepare useful recommendations for the development of universities across the country.

On the second day of the cross-university assessment, participants continued working in groups on the following topics: "Management System for Achieving Technological Leadership. Participants shared their visions of how to cultivate technological leaders and visionaries within the university; what needs to be changed in the approach to developing educational programs; and how to transform the entire structure of the educational institution to continue developing fundamental science and effectively collaborate with industrial partners on R&D. This candid discussion among professionals allowed them to identify the barriers and challenges the university faces in achieving its goals and objectives, both at the institutional and national levels.

"Already, about 10% of graduates have the potential to become future technology leaders, but, of course, we want to see more of them. I'd also like to highlight another important aspect: we are essentially nurturing ambassadors. Our graduates go to work for industrial partners, head departments, and then come to us as representatives of qualified clients," Marina Bolsunovskaya, Head of the Industrial Stream Data Processing Systems Laboratory at the St. Petersburg Polytechnical School, noted during her speech.

Participants at the event noted that industries struggle to share their knowledge and technologies with each other, and perhaps the university could contribute to overcoming this national challenge.

"The cross-university review is a significant event for the university, the participants of the Priority 2030 program, and the entire higher education system. For us, it's not only an independent assessment of our strategy but also a tool for professional dialogue that helps strengthen our scientific and educational potential and chart a sustainable development path. The solutions proposed following the cross-university review were evaluated by experts from the Federal State Autonomous Institution "Sociocenter," members of the expert group under the Council for the Support of Development Programs, and representatives of industrial partners—Tsentrotekh-Engineering LLC (Rosatom State Corporation), Power Machines JSC, and others.

"It's crucial that, as part of the cross-university review, we were able to conduct a professional discussion without regard to rank or title, where each specialist could express their opinion, even if it differed, to the vice-rector or director of the institute. This allowed us to truly uncover and assess the challenges facing the university and, accordingly, propose the most effective solutions," noted Dmitry Shabalkin, an expert at the Sociocenter.

Defense Day at the Growth Point

The "Growth Point" space at SPbGASU hosted the presentation of student startup concepts, which are being developed as part of the "Startup as a Diploma" program.

Ekaterina Abolina, Director of the Center for Student Entrepreneurship and Careers at SPbGASU, noted the growing student interest in the program: "Last year, 13 teams participated, and this year, 19. Every year, more and more students are showing initiative and striving to realize their ideas as startups. The software and IT services industry's combined revenue for the period increased 13 percent year-on-year to 11.11 trillion yuan (about $1.57 trillion), while total profits rose 8.7 percent to 1.44 trillion yuan, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
