KUALA LUMPUR, October 31 (Xinhua) — The 15th Informal Defense Ministers' Meeting of China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Friday, as part of Malaysia's rotating ASEAN chairmanship. The meeting was chaired by Chinese and Malaysian defense ministers Dong Jun and Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

Mohamed Khaled Nordin and the defense ministers of other ASEAN countries, for their part, commended the achievements in China-ASEAN relations, expressed approval of China's respect for ASEAN's centrality in the regional architecture, and expressed their readiness to strengthen defense and security cooperation with China to jointly safeguard regional peace and stability.

The participating countries also agreed to hold the second China-ASEAN joint maritime exercise in 2027.

Beijing, October 31 (Xinhua) — China calls on the United States to heed the international community's call to immediately lift the embargo and sanctions against Cuba and remove it from the list of "state sponsors of terrorism," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Friday.

On October 29, the UN General Assembly adopted a draft resolution calling on the United States to end the economic, commercial, and financial embargo against Cuba. The document was approved by 165 votes in favor, seven against, and 12 abstentions. The United States was among the seven countries that voted against.

As Guo Jiakun noted at a regular press briefing, the United States has been imposing a brutal blockade and illegal sanctions on Cuba for more than six decades, which is a gross violation of the fundamental norms of international relations, including the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.

According to him, the blockade and sanctions seriously infringe on Cuba's rights to existence and development and cause enormous harm to the Cuban people.
