Beirut, February 3 (Xinhua) – Iran has no intention of exporting its enriched uranium stockpiles, a senior Iranian official said.

"There was no reason to remove the stored materials from Iran," Lebanese television channel Al Mayadeen quoted Ali Shamkhani, an adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as saying on Tuesday.

The level of uranium enrichment could be reduced from 60 to 20 percent subject to concessions /from the US/, he said.

Regarding negotiations with Washington, A. Shamkhani reiterated Iran's position that negotiations should be conducted exclusively with the United States and that an agreement can only be reached in an environment free of threats and coercion, with equal participation of both parties.

A. Shamkhani also emphasized that Iran is prepared for any circumstances, including “war,” but it is still possible to prevent conflict and find a diplomatic solution.

If the United States attacks, Iran will attack Israel because the two countries are interconnected, he stressed.

BEIJING, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) — China supports Venezuela in upholding its sovereignty, dignity and legitimate interests, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Tuesday.

He recalled that a month ago, the United States openly launched military strikes against Venezuela and forcibly captured President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.

"This hegemonic action has seriously violated international law and infringed on Venezuela's sovereignty, threatening peace and stability in Latin America and the Caribbean. China firmly opposes this," Lin Jian said at a regular ministry press conference.

China, together with the international community, will resolutely safeguard the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, uphold the fundamental principles of international morality, and safeguard international fairness and justice, he added. -0-

Beijing, February 3 (Xinhua) — China hopes the United States will respond positively to Russia's constructive proposal for further agreements on the New START Treaty and sincerely support global strategic stability, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Tuesday.

The New START Treaty, signed by Russia and the United States in 2010, expires on February 5, 2026. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated in September 2025 that Russia would continue to comply with the treaty's key restrictions for one year after its expiration, provided that the United States refrained from actions that undermine the existing strategic balance.

China's position on the trilateral nuclear disarmament talks involving China, the United States, and Russia is clear, Lin Jian said at a regular press conference, responding to a question about the American side's expression of interest in China's participation in the talks.

He added that the scale of China's and the United States' nuclear potentials are incomparable, and at this stage, the demand for China's participation in nuclear disarmament negotiations is unfair and unreasonable. -0-

A new season of the "Music in the Metro" project has started in Moscow.

Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

The capital has launched a new season of the "Music in the Metro" project—one of the largest cultural formats integrated into the city's transportation system. Artists from various genres are once again performing for passengers at metro stations, the Moscow Central Diameters (MCD), and other public transportation facilities.

Today, the project brings together over 400 musicians—vocalists, instrumentalists, and ensembles. Both emerging performers and established artists can be heard at the "Music in the Metro" venues. This year, interest in the project grew significantly: over two thousand applications were submitted—a third more than last season. As usual, participants were selected by a professional jury based on in-person auditions.

Over the years, the project has come a long way: while the first season featured around 30 musicians and performances took place at just three venues, today concerts are held at 40 locations. These include metro stations, including the Big Circle Line, MCD facilities, the Moscow Transport Pavilion, the Severnye Vorota International Bus Station, and, during the warmer months, the Northern and Southern River Terminals.

Last year, the project became a key location in the large-scale celebratory program celebrating the 90th anniversary of the Moscow Metro, attracting the attention of renowned performers. In 2026, when "Music in the Metro" turns 10, passengers will also be treated to special concerts by popular musicians.

At the same time, the "Art in the Metro" project is developing in the capital, bringing together artists, sculptors, and illustrators. Since 2024, more than 300 artists have participated. Eleven spaces at metro stations are available, and a permanent exhibition space has been opened in the passageway between Sokolniki stations on the Big Circle and Sokolnicheskaya lines.

"The 'Music in the Metro' project has grown from 30 participants in the first season to over 400 musicians today, and the number of venues has increased more than 13-fold. At the request of Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, the capital's transport complex continues to develop creative initiatives in the city's infrastructure," noted Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.

Financial news: Corporate lending showed moderate growth in December.

Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

Corporate lending (including bonds) increased by 0.5% in December, up from 1.9% in November. This slowdown is typical for the end of the year, as government contract executors receive their payments and require less financing. Overall, growth for 2025 is expected to be 11.8% (18.1% for 2024).

Household mortgage debt increased by a significant 2.4% in December, largely due to strong demand for the Family Mortgage program. The annual increase was 9.0%, just slightly below the 10.9% expected in 2024.

The consumer loan portfolio continued to shrink (-0.7% in December) amid high interest rates and tight macroprudential policies. It decreased by 4.6% year-over-year after growing by 11.3% in 2024.

Household deposits in banks increased by a significant 5.6% in December, driven by the traditional advance payment of January social payments (including pensions and child benefits) and the payment of annual bonuses. For the year, growth was 16.2%, up from 27.7% in 2024.

The growth of legal entities' funds in December amounted to a slight 0.7%, and the annual growth was a moderate 7.7%, compared to 12.9% for 2024: the slowdown may be due, among other things, to a decrease in export revenues.

In December, banks' net profits fell by 55% to 176 billion rubles, due to increased reserve contributions and the year-end increase in operating expenses (primarily advertising and personnel costs). Overall, the sector is projected to earn 3.5 trillion rubles in 2025. Most of this profit (1.8 trillion rubles) is being used to replenish capital, allowing banks to continue lending to the economy. Banks also distribute a portion of their profits as dividends, including to the budget.
