Tbilisi, February 12 (Xinhua) — The Georgian government plans to ban the import of vehicles older than six years. Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced this at a government meeting on Thursday.

According to him, the relevant bill has already been submitted to parliament for consideration.

"We consider it extremely important that no cars older than six years be imported into the country. This is important for the environment, public health, and ensuring comfortable travel for citizens," the head of government emphasized.

The Prime Minister reported that the number of cars in the country has increased significantly in recent years. While there were 864,000 cars in Georgia in 2012, by 2026, that number is expected to exceed 2 million.

I. Kobakhidze pointed out that the growth of the vehicle fleet leads to traffic congestion and a deterioration of the environmental situation. –0–
