Kabul, February 22 (Xinhua) — At least nine people were killed and 35 others injured when a passenger bus overturned due to reckless driving in Badghis province in western Afghanistan on Sunday, local police said.

The accident occurred in the Sabzak district along the highway that links the provincial capital of Qala-i-Naw with the western province of Herat, Badghis provincial police spokesman Sadikullah Sadeqi said.

According to him, nine passengers, including women and children, died at the scene. Police and local residents transported 35 injured people to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Road accidents caused by careless driving on busy roads and a lack of road signs on dilapidated highways are a major cause of death in Afghanistan.

TEHRAN, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi stressed the importance of "constructive engagement and the use of the path of dialogue" to reach a sustainable nuclear deal.

During a phone call on Sunday, the second in a week, the two sides exchanged views on the latest developments regarding the indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the United States, Iran's official news agency (IRNA) reported.

A. Araghchi emphasized that Iran is focused on developing a “preliminary and consistent” framework to advance future negotiations.

R. Grossi described the negotiations in Geneva as “positive,” expressing the IAEA’s readiness to cooperate in developing a framework for negotiations and to support this process.

In an interview with MSNBC on Friday, A. Araghchi said that Tehran will prepare a draft of a possible nuclear agreement with the United States within two to three days and present it to the American delegation.

The resumption of talks comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States and a buildup of the US military presence in the Middle East. –0–

KABUL, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) — Afghan government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed on social media platform X on Sunday that Pakistani forces again carried out airstrikes in the border areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan, killing dozens of people, including women and children.

Z. Mujahid stated that Pakistani forces bombed civilian areas in the Afghan provinces of Nangarhar and Paktika.

In a statement, the Afghan Ministry of Defense strongly condemned what it called a flagrant violation and criminal act against Afghan territory, saying these actions violate international law and the principles of good neighborliness.

Pakistan's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said on Sunday morning that following a series of suicide bombings, Pakistan had carried out targeted strikes on seven militant camps along the Pakistan-Afghan border based on intelligence inputs.

Since October of last year, there have been repeated clashes in the border regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan. On October 19 of last year, the parties agreed to a ceasefire brokered by Qatar and Turkey.

Subsequently, several rounds of negotiations were held in Doha, Istanbul and Riyadh to ensure the sustainability of the ceasefire, but no results were achieved. –0–

Moscow, February 22 /Xinhua/ — Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova noted on Saturday that if the Republic of Korea (ROK) joins NATO's so-called PURL (Priority Needs List of Ukraine) initiative, Russia will be forced to exercise its right to retaliatory measures, including asymmetric ones.

As reported on the Russian Foreign Ministry's website, M. Zakharova stated that South Korea's possible involvement in such supplies, in any form, direct or indirect, only delays the prospects for a conflict resolution. This would undoubtedly cause irreparable damage to Russia-South Korea relations and destroy any prospects for restoring constructive dialogue on the Korean Peninsula.

Kazakh media, citing a source in the country's government, reported that Kazakh authorities are exploring the possibility of joining the PURL program. –0–

Beijing, February 22 (Xinhua) — As of Saturday, since the start of the 40-day Chunyun 2026 holiday, China's railway passenger traffic totaled 258 million, the state-owned China Railway Corporation (CRC) reported on Sunday.

Chunyun is a season of special operation of the country's transport system due to the mass internal migration of the Chinese population before, during and after the Spring Festival /Chunjie, the traditional Chinese New Year/.

On Saturday alone, the volume of passenger transportation on the country's railways amounted to almost 17.19 million person-times, according to KZhD data.

The state corporation also predicts that passenger traffic will remain high on Sunday, reaching an estimated 17.93 million passenger journeys. To meet the growing demand for rail travel, it plans to introduce a total of 2,203 additional passenger trains into service.

Railway authorities across the country have increased capacity on popular routes, improved services for passenger comfort at stations and on trains, and taken additional measures to optimize the travel experience.

This year's Spring Festival falls on February 17. China's annual "chunyun" is often called the world's largest seasonal migration. A record 9.5 billion interregional passenger trips are expected in China during the 40-day period from February 2 to March 13. -0-

SHANGHAI, February 22 (Xinhua) — The hashtags "China Travel" and "Becoming Chinese" have recently become trending topics on social media. More and more foreigners are sharing their travel experiences in China or their Chinese-style lifestyle online, including drinking hot water, practicing tai chi, and celebrating the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year).

These trends genuinely delight Alexandra Antonenko /Sasha/, a girl from Russia.

"I used to often have to explain to my friends why I love China and why I decided to spend my life there. But now, with China's popularity, they themselves say, 'You're so lucky you came to China a long time ago,'" the Russian woman recalls with a smile.

Seven years ago, during a trip to China, she first visited Yuyuan Garden in Shanghai, eastern China. Red lanterns illuminated the graceful curved roofs, and visitors strolled through the grounds, where ancient traditions and modernity harmoniously blended. It was then that Sasha realized China was the place she wanted to explore better, and the idea of studying here was born.

In 2022, Sasha moved to Shanghai to begin her master's degree. Today, she's a doctoral candidate at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and a popular blogger who creates short videos.

She captures moments of her Shanghai life through her camera lens: trying on a qipao (Chinese women's dress), learning about traditional Chinese medicine, dancing in the square to popular music, and strolling through the city's streets and courtyards. These images form a mosaic of her life in China.

"The Chinese-style lifestyle has long been a part of my daily life," Sasha said. For example, she confidently uses chopsticks, has taken to drinking hot water throughout the day, attends moxibustion sessions in the winter, and enjoys a variety of healing teas.

Sharing these moments on social media, Sasha was surprised to learn that many foreign internet users were following her lead in trying these everyday habits. Some of them commented on how they felt better.

Shanghai also brought her unexpected happiness. In 2022, she met her future husband, Zhao Yiwei, in a local coffee shop. This chance meeting marked the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of two people from different parts of the world. Since then, working on their blog, they have visited over 20 Chinese cities, enriching their lives with travel, local cuisine, and culture, and actively sharing their experiences with the world through videos.

Sasha holds a special place in her heart for the Spring Festival. "Chunjie has rich cultural meaning—it's a time for family reunions and caring for each other," she said. She enjoys the lively atmosphere before the festival, when people shop for gifts and groceries, the red holiday decorations everywhere, and especially the warmth of a family dinner on the eve of the Spring Festival. By adding Russian dishes to the holiday table, she enriches the celebration with a blend of cultural elements from both countries.

Alexandra's life journey—from tourist to student to permanent resident of China, from cultural enthusiast to cultural storyteller—echoes the popular internet trend of "Becoming Chinese."

“Life in China is full of new discoveries every day,” Sasha said, “I want to share real stories about China with as many people as possible.” -0-

Baghdad, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) — Iraq's Foreign Ministry on Saturday evening strongly condemned US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee's recent remarks about Israel's possible control over the entire Middle East, calling them a "grave offense."

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry expressed Iraq's "deep condemnation" of the ambassador's comments, which suggest that Israeli dominance over the region could be considered acceptable.

Such statements are “incompatible with the principles of international law and the UN Charter” and constitute “an attack on the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of States, and have negative consequences for security and stability in the region,” the statement said.

The Ministry reiterated Iraq's firm position in support of the sovereignty of states, calling for strict adherence to international law to ensure peace and security in the region.

In an interview with journalist Tucker Carlson published Friday, Huckabee said Israel has a "biblical" right to the entire Middle East, or at least to most of the region.

“It would be good if they /the Israelis/ took all of this,” M. Huckabee noted. –0–
