Ilya Ivanov, a student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technologies at the RUDN University Engineering Academy, won the all-Russian "SOLLERS Orbit of Professionals" competition. He received a scholarship and a paid internship at a leading automotive company with a flexible schedule during his studies. The internship will be supervised by experienced mentors and experts in the automotive industry. It will provide the student with the opportunity to directly participate in the development and implementation of the company's projects.

How did you prepare for the various stages of the competition—the online testing, the practical case? Share your secret to success.

My preparation was systematic. Before the online test, which covered both general automotive knowledge and technical topics (vehicle electrical equipment, metalworking, strength of materials), I reviewed key subjects from my final years—mechanical engineering technology, machine and mechanism theory, and cutting tools. When solving the practical case, the experience gained during my summer internship at the MAZ Moskvich plant, where I was fortunate to participate in the development of new production automation systems and immerse myself in the specifics of the domestic automotive industry, played a significant role. So there's no secret—it was simply a lot of time spent developing a deep understanding of the subject.

What knowledge did you gain at RUDN University helped you win? Are there any particular teachers you'd like to thank?

The objective of the competition case is to develop a mounting bracket for the ERA-GLONASS emergency call unit for a Sollers ST6 vehicle. This is a complex task: the development must take into account production volume, cost, labor intensity, and other factors affecting the final product. We discuss all these aspects in detail in our classes, so I would like to thank our department's instructors: Pavel Aleksandrovich Davydenko, Dmitry Gennadievich Allenov, and Vladimir Viktorovich Kopylov, for their high-quality and accessible presentation of these specialized subjects.

Which stage of the competition was the most difficult for you and why?

The development stage was the most challenging, as there were countless possible solutions. I chose the path of maximum functionality, emphasizing simplicity and low manufacturing cost, which ultimately led to victory.

What was innovative about your project and its practical significance for the automotive industry?

My project included not only the bracket itself, but also a proposal for organizing production, strength analysis results, cost calculations, and a corporate-style brochure outlining the advantages of the proposed solution.

How did you feel the moment you found out you were the winner? What was the first thing you thought about?

The competition organizers kept the suspense going until the very end. On the way to the awards ceremony, I expected to win a prize, but certainly not first place, because, as it seemed to me then, I hadn't done anything special—I'd simply applied the knowledge I'd gained in class. At the event, I met students from various universities in Moscow and the Moscow region, such as MIPT and Bauman Moscow State Technical University, including both master's and doctoral students. The organizers began presenting the awards: third place—not me, second—not me, first—again, not me. At that moment, I thought, "Oh well, I didn't win—it happens, I'll try next time." But then they announced, "Today, our guest is the person who took first place among all participants in Russia—RUDN University student Ilya Ivanov." At that moment, I was overjoyed and immediately ran onto the stage.

The grand prize is a paid internship at SOLLERS. What are your expectations for this job?

This is a very valuable award. What I'm looking forward to is immersing myself in real production processes. Theory and case studies are one thing, but a live factory with its challenges is a completely different and most valuable experience. I hope to contribute to the development of the domestic auto industry and learn from the best specialists in the industry.

BEIJING, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) — The integration of the digital economy with the real economy in China maintained its rapid growth momentum this year, as digital industrialization strengthened, investment in industrial digitalization increased, and the driving role of data grew, according to data released Thursday by the General Administration of Taxation.

Data showed that sales revenue in key digital economy sectors grew 10 percent year-on-year in the first 11 months of this year, significantly outpacing the overall growth rate of businesses nationwide.

In particular, sales revenue in such industries as the production of intelligent equipment and the production of electronic components and equipment increased by 28.2 percent and 10.9 percent, respectively.

During the reporting period, companies increased their investment in industrial digitalization. According to data, from January to November 2025, spending by manufacturing companies in the country on digital technologies increased by 11.2 percent year-on-year.

BEIJING, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) — China's Defense Ministry on Thursday called on all peace-loving countries and peoples to take joint action to curb the resurgence of militarism by Japanese right-wing forces.

Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Zhang Xiaogang made the statement in response to a request from reporters to comment on recent statements by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and another high-ranking Japanese official regarding Japan's nuclear weapons.

Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin chaired a meeting of the Presidium (Headquarters) of the Government Commission on Regional Development, where the results of work in 2025 under the national project "Infrastructure for Life" were summarized.

"The first year of the new national project, 'Infrastructure for Life,' is coming to an end. It has become the main focus of our work for the next six years. First and foremost, it aims to ensure that people in the regions have everything they need for a comfortable life. This determines people's quality of life—where they live, where they go, where they work, and where they play. Thanks to systemic solutions, the President's constant attention and oversight, the Government's operational work, the personal involvement of the Prime Minister, constructive interaction with the Presidential Administration and the Federal Assembly, and staff work with regional leaders, the construction industry continued its active growth this year. Housing commissioning by the end of the year is projected to reach approximately 107 million square meters, or 0.73 square meters per person. This is in part due to unprecedented measures for preferential mortgages. This development in housing construction and the mortgage market will have improved the housing conditions of 3.8 million families by 2025. "Memoranda containing specific plans for road network development over the next six years have been signed with all Russian regions. We continue our systematic work in the reunified regions. I thank all relevant ministries, agencies, and, of course, the heads of the regions and their teams, as our work is taking place directly in the regions," said Marat Khusnullin.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, approximately 28,000 kilometers of roads were repaired, reconstructed, and built over the past year, a 14% increase compared to the previous year. Approximately 213 million square meters of asphalt were laid. All planned targets for federal and regional roads were met. Therefore, the share of federal roads in good condition currently stands at 74.2%, roads within the core network at 75%, the road network of major urban agglomerations at 85%, and regional roads at 56.5%.

All regions have approved development programs for 2,160 key settlements, home to over 70% of the country's population. This framework will ensure the country's comprehensive and balanced development. Implementation of these development programs will improve the quality of life in these settlements by 30% by 2030 and by 60% by 2036.

Among the key areas for further work that need to be strengthened, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the modernization of housing and utilities, the development of key communities, increasing urban development potential, and updating the street and road network.

Marat Khusnullin also noted that the Chechen Republic, the Republics of Tatarstan, Buryatia, Sakha (Yakutia), and the Kaluga and Saratov regions are currently among the leading regions in key areas of the "Infrastructure for Life" national project.

In his report, Russian Minister of Construction, Housing and Utilities Irek Faizullin summarized the preliminary results of the national "Infrastructure for Life" project and federal projects in 2025, as well as the commissioning of capital construction projects.

"This year, 121 million square meters of multi-family housing are under construction, representing approximately 2.5 million apartments, an increase of 6.6 million square meters compared to the previous year. 4,430 developers are engaged in construction. Including non-residential space, the figure is even higher, reaching 200 million square meters. To maintain this momentum, we are developing urban development potential, which stood at 478.8 million square meters as of December 1. Over the past 11 months, 59.5 million square meters of individual residential buildings have been built. As part of the national project, a program to support KRT projects was launched for 37 regions this year. In parallel with new construction, the Russian Ministry of Construction is systematically renovating the existing housing stock. In the first three quarters of 2025, major repairs were completed in 24,700 buildings, covering 101 million square meters. Housing conditions have been improved for nearly 4 million people. “Over the first three quarters of this year, 11,600 elevators have already been replaced,” said Irek Faizullin.

He added that the 10th All-Russian Competition for the Best Projects to Create a Comfortable Urban Environment and the 4th Far Eastern Federal District Competition were held under the new rules. Thanks to the support of the President and the Government, the geographic scope of the All-Russian competition has been expanded, allowing participation to include cities with populations of up to 300,000, as well as villages and settlements that are core communities. This year, 294 projects were named winners. The investment and construction cycle has been reduced by almost 47 days compared to the beginning of the year, reaching 1,253 days. In 2025, 314 projects were built using standard design documentation. Since the beginning of the year, 203 regulations have been adopted in the construction and housing and utilities sectors, including 20 federal laws, 135 government regulations, and 48 orders of the Russian Ministry of Construction.

The meeting participants also raised issues of budget allocation, improving road safety, and the heating season.
