ISLAMABAD, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday that the 21st century should be an era of accelerated development and rise of Asia, especially South Asia.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the statement in Islamabad during a joint press conference with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar following the 6th round of China-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue at the level of foreign ministers.

The Chinese Foreign Minister responded to a question from reporters about China's view on the current situation in South Asia and the role of China-Pakistan cooperation, as Pakistan is the last stop on his current tour of three South Asian countries.

South Asian countries have a long history, brilliant civilization, large population and huge development potential, Wang noted, calling them China's close neighbors linked by common mountains and rivers, and an important direction for China to build a community of shared future with neighboring countries.

Stressing that he felt the enormous development potential and sufficient stability of South Asia following his current visit to India, Afghanistan and Pakistan, the Chinese Foreign Minister pointed out that the 21st century should become an era of accelerated development and rise of Asia, especially South Asia.

Although India, Afghanistan and Pakistan have different national circumstances, they all recognize that development is the top priority and the broadest consensus among them and among all countries in the region, he stressed, adding that a peaceful, stable and prosperous South Asia is in the common interest of all and meets the aspirations of the people of all countries.

Under the pressure of unilateral bullying, Wang Yi continued, all three countries believe that they should adhere to multilateralism, protect their legitimate rights and interests, and strive to promote an equitable and orderly multipolar world and an inclusive economic globalization that benefits everyone.

The three countries are willing to strengthen good-neighborly friendship with China, their largest neighbor, deepen exchanges and cooperation, and strive for mutual benefit and win-win, the Chinese Foreign Minister said, noting that China will become a reliable partner and a strong support for South Asian countries.

China pursues a friendly, secure and prosperous neighborhood policy, adhering to the concepts of benevolence, sincerity, mutual benefit, inclusiveness and common destiny. It is always committed to mutual respect, mutual understanding, mutual trust and promoting mutual success with South Asian countries, Wang Yi assured.

According to him, China and South Asian countries are natural partners and there is ample space for cooperation between them.

Despite ups and downs, China-India relations have a long history and are increasingly demonstrating their historical logic. China-Pakistan friendship, in turn, has stood the test of time, receiving an even stronger internal impetus, the Chinese Foreign Minister noted.

He pointed out that relations between China and Pakistan, China and India, and China and other neighboring countries are not directed against any third party and are not subject to the influence of third parties.

Wang Yi stressed that China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic cooperative partners, and the friendship between them is unbreakable. The construction of a community of shared future for China and Pakistan is at the forefront of China's efforts to build a community of shared future for neighboring countries, playing an important role as a model.

According to him, China and Pakistan are leading the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, and the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor will not only benefit the people of the two countries, but will also extend to Afghanistan and other countries.

The two countries also implement the Global Security Initiative, adhere to the concept of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, and are committed to developing high-level security cooperation, Wang Yi stressed, adding that the two sides attach great importance to the Global Civilization Initiative, seeking to overcome differences between civilizations and social systems, thereby promoting greater mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of the two countries.

The Chinese Foreign Minister pointed out that both China and Pakistan are important members of the Global South, and recalled that Pakistan took up a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council this year, giving China another partner in upholding fairness and justice within the UN Security Council.

The two countries will closely coordinate and cooperate to jointly protect the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries and the Global South, Wang Yi concluded. –0–

JERUSALEM, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday said he had instructed officials to begin "immediate negotiations" to free hostages held in Gaza and end the war, while vowing to approve military plans to capture Gaza City.

“I came here to approve the IDF’s plans to take control of Gaza City and defeat the Palestinian Hamas movement,” Netanyahu said during a visit to a military base near the Palestinian enclave.

“At the same time, I gave the order to begin immediate negotiations on the release of all our hostages and on ending the war on terms acceptable to Israel,” he added.

However, the Israeli prime minister did not specify how or where the talks would begin. According to the Israeli news site Ynet, citing a senior official, no delegation is expected to be sent to Doha or Cairo at this stage.

An Israeli official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Xinhua that Netanyahu and his security cabinet plan to meet on Thursday evening to finalize the plan for an offensive on the Palestinian enclave's largest city.

The announcement came a day after the Israeli army mobilized 60,000 reservists and announced it would call up another 20,000 in the coming days. –0–

BEIJING, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) — China regrets that some people in India are trying to undermine China's sovereignty over the Taiwan issue and hinder the improvement of China-India relations, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Thursday.

"China expresses serious concern and firmly opposes this action," Mao Ning said at a regular briefing for reporters, responding to a question about reports from Indian government sources that Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar's remarks about India's position on Taiwan were misquoted.

The Chinese authorities have released relevant information about the talks between the Chinese and Indian foreign ministers, the official representative added, noting that the so-called “clarification” from the Indian side came as a surprise to China and did not correspond to the facts.

The Chinese diplomat stressed that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory. This is the prevailing consensus of the international community, including India, Mao Ning added.

"We hope that India will strictly adhere to the one-China principle in practice, properly handle sensitive issues, and promote the stable development of bilateral relations," Mao Ning concluded. -0-

Tbilisi, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) — Financial cooperation between China and Georgia will promote the development of bilateral trade, expansion of investment cooperation and implementation of major infrastructure projects, Chinese Ambassador to Georgia Zhou Qian said in an interview with the Georgian business publication Business Press News on Thursday.

Answering a question about the prospects for cooperation between the financial systems of the two countries, the diplomat emphasized that the expanded presence of Chinese banks in Georgia will contribute to the wider use of the Chinese yuan in international settlements, which, in turn, will make bilateral trade and investment activities more convenient and stable.

ISLAMABAD, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Thursday called on China and Pakistan to advance their all-weather strategic cooperative partnership guided by the "four constancies" principles.

Wang Yi said the dialogue was held in a warm and brotherly atmosphere, with the two sides reaching consensus on almost all issues through comprehensive and in-depth strategic communication.

Strategic cooperation between China and Pakistan is of great significance to the common development of the two countries as well as regional peace and stability, Wang said, noting that the unbreakable friendship between the two countries is growing stronger day by day, and the China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperative partnership is solid.

The Chinese Foreign Minister stressed that China and Pakistan will always adhere to the principles of the “four constancies,” the first of which is to constantly maintain a high level of mutual trust and mutual support.

He noted that the two sides agreed to use the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries as a strategic guideline, continuously strengthen and deepen strategic mutual trust, and firmly support each other in protecting their fundamental interests.

Wang Yi stressed that the two sides will always focus on development, mutual benefit and win-win, adding that China and Pakistan agreed that the current priority of bilateral cooperation is to jointly build a high-quality China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and create its upgraded "version 2.0".

According to him, the two sides will step up efforts to deepen cooperation in three key areas, including industry, agriculture and mining, and will effectively improve the well-being of the Pakistani people, cultivate Pakistan's self-reliant development potential and enhance the resilience of its economy.

Referring to the recent natural disaster caused by heavy rains in Pakistan, Wang Yi said China shares the feelings of the Pakistani people and plans to immediately provide emergency humanitarian aid to Pakistan.

China and Pakistan will always safeguard security and improve people's livelihood, Wang stressed, noting that China highly appreciates Pakistan's tireless efforts and enormous sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and believes that its anti-terrorism efforts will ultimately succeed.

According to the Chinese Foreign Minister, the Pakistani side will effectively protect the security of Chinese citizens, projects and institutions in the country, while continuing to further deepen cooperation with China in the areas of counter-terrorism and security, as well as strengthen cooperation in regional anti-terrorism affairs.

He added that the two sides will also actively promote exchanges and cooperation in areas such as education, youth and culture to strengthen public support and the social foundation of China-Pakistan friendship.

In addition, China and Pakistan will continuously strengthen coordination and jointly respond to challenges, Wang Yi stressed, adding that under conditions where the regional situation in South Asia is closely linked with global changes, the two sides agreed to strengthen coordination and cooperation in regional affairs, build cooperation based on the Asian values of peace, cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, and jointly build a peaceful, calm, prosperous, beautiful and friendly Asian home.

The parties will firmly defend the results of the victory in World War II, adhere to genuine multilateralism and oppose all forms of unilateral bullying, the head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry noted.

China and Pakistan will regard the Initiative on Global Development, the Initiative on Global Security and the Initiative on Global Civilization as important platforms and tools, actively strengthen the unity and cooperation of countries in the Global South, and jointly promote an equitable and orderly multipolar world and an inclusive economic globalization that benefits everyone, making unremitting efforts to build a community with a shared future for mankind, Wang Yi concluded. –0–
