ISLAMABAD, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday that the 21st century should be an era of accelerated development and rise of Asia, especially South Asia.
Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the statement in Islamabad during a joint press conference with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar following the 6th round of China-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue at the level of foreign ministers.
The Chinese Foreign Minister responded to a question from reporters about China's view on the current situation in South Asia and the role of China-Pakistan cooperation, as Pakistan is the last stop on his current tour of three South Asian countries.
South Asian countries have a long history, brilliant civilization, large population and huge development potential, Wang noted, calling them China's close neighbors linked by common mountains and rivers, and an important direction for China to build a community of shared future with neighboring countries.
Stressing that he felt the enormous development potential and sufficient stability of South Asia following his current visit to India, Afghanistan and Pakistan, the Chinese Foreign Minister pointed out that the 21st century should become an era of accelerated development and rise of Asia, especially South Asia.
Although India, Afghanistan and Pakistan have different national circumstances, they all recognize that development is the top priority and the broadest consensus among them and among all countries in the region, he stressed, adding that a peaceful, stable and prosperous South Asia is in the common interest of all and meets the aspirations of the people of all countries.
Under the pressure of unilateral bullying, Wang Yi continued, all three countries believe that they should adhere to multilateralism, protect their legitimate rights and interests, and strive to promote an equitable and orderly multipolar world and an inclusive economic globalization that benefits everyone.
The three countries are willing to strengthen good-neighborly friendship with China, their largest neighbor, deepen exchanges and cooperation, and strive for mutual benefit and win-win, the Chinese Foreign Minister said, noting that China will become a reliable partner and a strong support for South Asian countries.
China pursues a friendly, secure and prosperous neighborhood policy, adhering to the concepts of benevolence, sincerity, mutual benefit, inclusiveness and common destiny. It is always committed to mutual respect, mutual understanding, mutual trust and promoting mutual success with South Asian countries, Wang Yi assured.
According to him, China and South Asian countries are natural partners and there is ample space for cooperation between them.

He pointed out that relations between China and Pakistan, China and India, and China and other neighboring countries are not directed against any third party and are not subject to the influence of third parties.
Wang Yi stressed that China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic cooperative partners, and the friendship between them is unbreakable. The construction of a community of shared future for China and Pakistan is at the forefront of China's efforts to build a community of shared future for neighboring countries, playing an important role as a model.
According to him, China and Pakistan are leading the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, and the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor will not only benefit the people of the two countries, but will also extend to Afghanistan and other countries.
