GUANGZHOU, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) — Chinese Premier Li Qiang called for strengthening the advantages of innovation-driven development and boldly leading the reform and opening-up policies, striving to get the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) off to a good start.
Li Qiang made the announcement during an inspection tour of Guangdong Province in southern China from January 3 to 5.
In Shenzhen, the Premier of the State Council heard a report on the progress of the construction of the Shenzhen-Xianggang Scientific and Technological Innovation Cooperation Zone.
Noting that scientific and technological innovation is key to future victories, Li Qiang called for stronger support for innovative development through policy, funding, and human resources. He also emphasized the importance of leveraging the strengths of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to concentrate innovative resources and achieve new breakthroughs.
The head of the Chinese government pointed to the need to further develop and expand scenarios for the application of scientific and technological innovations, as well as accelerate the iteration and modernization of new technologies through their wider implementation.
Li Qiang called for making full use of advanced technologies and effectively utilizing key transportation corridors to better promote connectivity and coordinated development in the Greater Bay Area.
In Foshan, the Premier of the State Council stated that economic development and rising living standards are generating new consumer demand, and urged careful attention to these changes. He also emphasized the need to accelerate research and development of higher-quality products and foster a virtuous cycle in which demand stimulates supply, and supply, in turn, creates demand.
At the Foshan International Land Port, Li Qiang reviewed the development and operation of cross-border e-commerce and duty-free logistics. He emphasized the importance of expanding high-level openness, more closely integrating infrastructure connectivity with regulations and standards, and coordinating the planning and construction of major open cooperation platforms in scientific and technological innovation, industrial development, and trade in services.
The Chinese leader also called for further progress in digital and green trade, orderly expansion of the independent opening up of the service sector, active expansion of imports, and ensuring balanced development of imports and exports.
