A little later, three more endoscopic centers began operating in the city clinical hospital. named after V.M. Buyanova, Moscow Multidisciplinary Clinical Center "Kommunarka" and the Moscow Clinical Research Center named after A.S. Loginova.

The centers have already conducted more than 700 thousand studies and detected more than four thousand malignant neoplasms at zero and early stages.

All examinations are performed using the most precise equipment and under mild sedation to minimize patient discomfort. The time spent in the endoscopy center does not exceed two hours.

About a month ago, a new project on proactive endoscopic examinations was launched in pilot mode. They help to identify gastrointestinal diseases at early stages, as well as pathologies that precede the development of oncology.

Referrals for examinations have been opened for Muscovites who have not had gastro- and colonoscopy for several years. More than 20 thousand people have already undergone them.

Polytech Hydrotower is 120: how an ancient engineering structure became the heart of student life

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

This summer, Polytechnic University celebrates the anniversary of one of the most beautiful buildings on campus — the famous Hydrotower, or simply the Tower, as it is now called. The ancient engineering structure, which supplied the institute with water until the mid-1950s, turned 120 years old.

There are many water towers in the world that are true architectural masterpieces. Our Hydrotower can easily be considered one of them. Its silhouette resembles either a medieval donjon or a 46-meter eastern pagoda. Despite the obvious stylistic difference from the surrounding buildings in the spirit of neoclassicism, the tower fits organically into the architectural ensemble. And everyone sees something of their own in it (that's why it is modern). Someone will think that this is a high tower in which "my joy" lives, and, for example, the guys from the student association "Engineering Alliance" are inspired by the polytechnic high-riseknightly tournaments, it looks very much like a watchtower of a medieval castle.

The night illumination of the top of the tower gives it a special charm, turning it into something like a wizard's cell.

During the Industrial Revolution, water towers became an integral part of urban infrastructure. They supplied water to factories, plants, and homes. The Polytechnic Institute, which had a vast territory with educational and residential buildings, needed a reliable water supply system. The uniqueness of the Polytechnic Tower was its dual purpose: in addition to its direct functionality, it served as a place for scientific research and hydraulic testing.

Like most of the Polytechnic buildings, the tower was designed by architects Ernst Wirrich and Iosif Padlevsky. In his memoirs, SPbPI professor Boris Menshutkin specified that the construction of the water tower and the hydraulic laboratory at it began in August 1902 and was completed three years later, in the summer of 1905.

The hydraulic laboratory was opened in an extension at the foot of the tower. Its first director was hydraulics teacher Iosif Esman. Here, students from the electromechanical, metallurgical, and shipbuilding departments tested water turbines and pumps.

In 1931, construction of a new extension to the Hydrotower was completed, housing the institute's hydraulic engineering laboratory, one of the first in the country. It was designed by employees of the hydraulics department under the supervision of Professor Nikolai Pavlovsky.

During the Great Patriotic War and the siege of Leningrad, since the tower was the dominant feature of the area, its observation deck housed a local air defense observation post. It also served as a kind of beacon, as Valery Klimov, director of the SPbPU History Museum, told the Politekhnik newspaper: In probably the year 1990, a conference dedicated to Victory Day was held at the Polytech. A participant in the Great Patriotic War spoke at it. He had never been to the Polytech before. But he said that he dreams of the hydro-tower at night, and when he wakes up, he sees it before his eyes. Why, you might ask? Because during the war he was a pilot, and there was a military airfield nearby in Sosnovka. And when he returned from battle, the main task was to see the hydro-tower. If he saw it, it meant he had crossed the front line, survived, and was landing. For him, our hydro tower became a symbol of life.

After the war, the tower returned to its original purpose – supplying water to the institute. It served this purpose until 1953.

Memorial plaques installed on the tower's façade in 1967 and 1987 serve as a reminder that outstanding Soviet scientists Academician Nikolai Nikolaevich Pavlovsky and the founder of the Department of Hydromechanical Engineering Ivan Nikolaevich Voznesensky worked here.

In many countries, water towers that have lost their original functions are recognized as architectural monuments and have found a second life, turning into museums, restaurants, hotels, business and cultural centers, and popular tourist attractions. At the Polytechnic, the tower has become the center of student life and youth technical creativity.

In 2003–2005, the Polytech Hydrotower was restored. In 2013, FabLab Polytech, a member of the global network of high-tech digital laboratories Fab Lab, opened in one of the extensions. Now it has been transformed into a student association of makers of the same name, where, as before, novice engineers learn to work on 3D printers, laser and milling machines. In another wing of the building, the Center for Patriotic Education of Youth "Rodina" appeared in December 2016. The guys, who are passionate about history, actually created an interactive museum there, a room of military glory with an exhibition of household items and equipment found in battle sites by searchers of the "Volunteer-Polytech" detachment. Activists of the military-historical club "Our Polytech" gather there today.

On October 19, 2019, the Boiling Point – Polytech was opened in the Tower – a space where lectures, trainings, strategic sessions and master classes are held.

There are so many ideas floating around in the Tower, so many interests and hobbies intersect, that in the end it became clear that it should be the location of the Center for Youth Trajectories, a structural subdivision of the SPbPU Youth Policy Department.

"We would like the Tower to be associated with creative youth work," says Andrey Dolgirev, Director of the Center for Youth Trajectories. "Our goal is to increase the number of participants in student associations and get kids involved in this environment. Many of them first come here to relax — to play table tennis or a computer console. Here they meet their peers who are involved in project activities, and they understand that they too can implement their ideas, participate in competitions, win a grant, maybe even create a startup. And we will advise them on how best to do this, and help them fill out applications."

Polytech offers many opportunities to those who want to make their dreams come true, and a significant part of these opportunities is concentrated in the Tower. Today, it is one of the most popular places in Polytech, it attracts young inventors, gathers creative and passionate people around itself. There is a fab lab and a robotics workshop, where Team Omnivores modifies combat robots, and the student design bureau "System Engineering". There is a real industrial robot – a gift from a Polytechnic graduate. The plans include creating a student media lab with photo and video equipment in the "trunk" of the Tower. And on the second floor there is a Center for Psychological Support of Students – also an important service.

The Tower is popular not only with those who are currently studying, but also with those who have already graduated from the university but remain in touch with it. Thus, twice a year there are meetings of graduates – ambassadors of the Polytechnic University. There is a special atmosphere of talent, imagination and creativity concentrated around the Tower, which is probably why university open-air celebrations such as "Beauty Day".

For all 120 years of its existence, the Tower served people, was a source and symbol of life, inspiration, scientific thought. In the anniversary year, I would like to wish this symbol and soul of the Polytechnic that people love and cherish it, and preserve it for many centuries to come.

Virtual world of a real landmark: residents of 964 Russian cities visited the VDNKh metaverse

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Moscow Government – Government of Moscow –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

A year ago, users from all over Russia were given the opportunity to get into VDNKh metaverse. Over the entire period, the project page has been visited more than 208 thousand times. This was reported by the capital Department of Information Technology.

"This is a unique interregional project that combines interactive, educational and cultural components. Guests of the VDNKh metaverse are separated by thousands of kilometers and different time zones: 45 percent of visitors visit the project page from Moscow, another seven percent from St. Petersburg, almost four percent from Nizhny Novgorod, while among the users there are residents of the Far Eastern city of Kholmsk, the city of Shchigry in the Kursk region, the city of Usolye in the Perm region, the Chuvash city of Tsivilsk and almost a thousand other places," said Anastasia Sharova, head of the exhibition activities department of the capital's Department of Information Technology.

In the metaverse, you can walk or ride a scooter along the paths of a virtual copy of the exhibition, look into several pavilions, go on a tour of the past, present and future of VDNKh, honor the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, visit the digitalized pavilions of the International Exhibition and Forum "Russia".

The digital copy contains a large amount of educational content: about the exhibition itself, its pavilions and expositions. Specialists recreated 114 objects and 566 exhibits: each of them can be examined, and its history can be found in the information sheet.

The metaVDNKh audience lives all over Russia — from Baltiysk to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and from Norilsk to Derbent. Over the year, the metaverse page was visited by users from 964 cities.

Almost 25 percent of visitors are users under 25. About 21 percent are guests from 25 to 34 years old. Young people are attracted by the digital format and interactivity: thanks to game mechanics, obtaining information about the history of attractions turns into a quest.

To walk through the VDNKh metaverse, you don't need to buy a ticket, get ready, and plan a route to the desired location. You can find yourself at the digital copy of the Friendship of Nations fountain without leaving your home: any device and an Internet connection are enough. This makes the attraction accessible to all users, regardless of their age and health. Almost 11 percent of visitors are over 55 years old, and another 16 percent are between 45 and 54 years old. The online walk format allows you to see the alleys, pavilions, and fountains from a new angle, and compare how much the exhibition area has changed since your last visit to Moscow.

Almost 28 percent of the audience is made up of guests aged 35 to 44. This generation has witnessed the transition from the pre-digital era to the modern era with its opportunities, when people can no longer imagine their lives without smartphones and the Internet.

MetaVDNKh offers five immersion formats to choose from: you can stroll through the digital space in the company of friends from all over the country, go on a gamified excursion, look into six digital pavilions of the Russia exhibition, join the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War and honor the memory of the heroes by launching a virtual fireworks display, and also watch archival war footage.

For a walk or tour of the 3D copy of the exhibition, you must book in advance.project website. If you download metaVDNKh to your computer, you can walk along the digital alleys at any time.

To join the project "Victory Salute", no additional registration is required. Users create a virtual fireworks display on any device in 10-15 minutes and launch it on the Central Alley of VDNKh. Since the project was launched in May this year, the page "Victory Fireworks" has been visited more than 74.5 thousand times.

MetaVDNKh is based on a 3D model of the exhibition from a digital twin of the city, to which the smallest details of buildings and interiors have been added using gaming industry technologies. The digital twin of Moscow is a large-scale platform that, since 2019, has been helping to plan the construction of residential, industrial and social facilities, make management decisions and monitor the implementation of significant city projects.

The capabilities of the VDNKh metaverse were highly praised at the Moscow Seasons festival, which took place in Beijing from June 12 to 15. Visitors were introduced to a virtual copy of the Moskino cinema park, saw the city's iconic landmarks from a bird's eye view, walked around a virtual copy of VDNKh, and launched fireworks on the Main Alley.

You can learn more about the evolution of IT technologies in the capital – from the launch of the first round-the-clock server in the Moscow City Hall building to the creation of a digital twin of the city and the meta-VDNKh – from the first episode of the popular science mini-series "Moscow in Digital".

The creation and operation of digital platforms for providing residents with public services in various sectors of the social sphere correspond to the objectives of the national project "Data Economy". Festival "Moscow Estates": Why Noble Culture Is Relevant in the Digital Age

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Moscow Government – Government of Moscow –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Project "Summer in Moscow"— these are dozens of festivals. Among them, the following stand out for their originality, nostalgic mood and 19th century dacha atmosphere: "Moscow Estates". The festival immerses you in history and at the same time allows you to discover modern recreation formats. Its scale is 106 days and 50 unique estates.

The unexpected renaissance of estate culture

The urban environment is reaching its peak of development in Moscow. Digital technologies and electronics make life more comfortable, safer and easier. At the same time, the city is turning to the manor culture of the 19th century. And this fully meets the demands of guests and residents of the capital – Russian style, interest in family traditions, craft items, handicrafts have become new trends in city life. The festival "Moscow Estates" is not only a nostalgic gesture, but rather a conscious rethinking of the legacy of Russian manor culture, which has proven relevant and close to city dwellers in the 21st century.

The festival was founded in 2023 and began with 15 venues. Today, it is a large-scale project that unites more than 50 sites: city mansions in the center of Moscow and former country residences with parks. Among the sites are popular tourist spots, such as the Kolomenskoye, Tsaritsyno, and Ostafyevo museum-reserves, as well as less obvious ones, such as the Sviblovo, Valuevo, and other estates. The city is consistently restoring the estates and simultaneously “reviving” their space with the help of the festival.

Irina Kokoreva, the festival curator, explains: "The estates are the city's genuine cultural heritage, preserving the history of outstanding people, events, and features of everyday life from past eras. Much attention is paid to their preservation. Today we see the interest of Muscovites and tourists in the traditions and values of the past. It is this trend that formed the basis for the idea of creating the project."

Another key idea is to increase the number of points of tourist interest, to overcome the stereotype of the city as only a business and administrative center with attractions concentrated within the Garden Ring.

"Moscow is diverse!" continues Irina Kokoreva. "The city and its residents have been developing dynamically for almost 900 years. Moscow has preserved architectural monuments from the 15th to the 20th century – we have something to be proud of! To see the history and culture of the past, you don't have to go to another city, sometimes it's enough to just turn right or left on the way to work."

Open estates

The festival expands the boundaries of accessibility of cultural heritage. Some estates today are educational institutions, administrative centers, embassies.

"We learned a lot of interesting things while preparing the project. Moscow is one of the greenest cities in the world. For example, most of the modern parks are former estate parks that belonged to famous Moscow families. One of these sites is the Kuskovo estate, which has preserved the wooden palace of the Sheremetev counts," notes Irina Kokoreva.

For guests from all over Moscow. How the count's name day was celebrated in Kuskovo in the 18th century

Not all places are open to the public — for example, the Muravyov-Apostol estate on Staraya Basmannaya Street, which survived the fire of 1812. The curator says: “Today it is a private property that was restored with the participation of a descendant of the family who returned to the family nest. Films are often shot in the estate, private events are held, and a small family house museum is located on the top floor.” Each festival season, the estate becomes a venue for the project, where you can attend master classes, concerts and lectures for free.

The Razumovsky Estate on the Yauza is a magnificent 18th-century Baroque palace surrounded by a formal park with ponds. The building houses the headquarters of the Russian Ministry of Sports, and on the ground floor is the Sports Museum. “Many residents of the area came and were surprised that the building was open to the public,” says Irina Kokoreva. “Even they did not know that such a facility was located next to their home. Opening up unobvious places and helping to bring in a new tourist flow is another goal of our project.”

The Petrovsky Travel Palace, which is usually closed to the general public, has a special status. “The Moscow Government Reception House is located here, and a hotel is located in the side wings. Free access to the site is limited. Visiting the events of the Moscow Estates festival here is, of course, a great value. And we see a special interest in this place among guests,” the curator emphasizes. There are many such examples. The full list of estates and events is presented atfestival page.

Noble picnics and promenades

In the era of globalization, there is a demand for local identity, and the Russian estate perfectly meets it – it is a synthesis of intelligent recreation and national color. The calling card of the festival is the creation of an atmosphere of noble picnics and promenades. In the Bauman Garden, Lianozovsky Park of Culture and Recreation on weekends you can move back 150 years – there they recreate costumes, household items, jewelry. More than 30 professional actors work on the promenades and picnics. The schedule is onproject page.

"Dear friends, I am glad to welcome you to the festival "Moscow Estates"! I invite you to visit the retro studio – follow me. We have a wonderful costume shop where you can see the outfits of the late 19th – early 20th centuries. They transform us and the festival guests," – this is how actor Dmitry Chebykin greets visitors in the estate parks.

Traditional noble games are also played in the open air in the estate parks. “Croquet, lapta, gorelki, trinkets — we tell when these entertainments came to Russia, what the rules were. And if we talk about handicraft master classes, we note that it was important for noble and peasant families to create something with their own hands. All these formats carry both entertaining and historically valuable information,” the festival curator shares.

Serious cultural work is being carried out in preparation for the project. The festival is organized by the city Tourism Committee with the support of Department of Cultural Heritage AndDepartment of Culture of Moscow.

Tours: from state rooms to secret rooms

One of the festival formats is excursions. More than a hundred guides take visitors to rarely accessible corners of the estates. There are walking tours – for example, an evening tour of the estate clusters "Arbat", "Khamovniki", "Basmanny".

"This is a unique route, which is made along the old streets of Moscow. It tells about the estates that are located here, in a light, playful, exciting form with the participation of actors. The actors act as residents of the estates of the 19th century," explains tour guide Olga Sergeeva.

Concerts: from chamber evenings to grand shows

Concerts in manor parks are a reference to musical evenings that were held by aristocrats. They perform instrumental classics, and often they sound in modern original arrangements.

“We were surprised to discover that Russian classics combine with almost all known modern styles in the most organic way, and this is a great way to make classical music even more popular and recognizable,” says musician Anton Svistunov, head of the Thunder Strings group, which has been giving open concerts in Moscow estates for two years now.

The festival was conceived as a chamber event, with events gathering no more than 100 participants. But the positive response and popularity of the project gave the organizers an incentive to hold larger events. Last year, the “Estate Masterpieces” section appeared. This is a mega-event — that’s how the organizers describe the format. “Opera in Tsaritsyno gathered more than 30 thousand spectators in 2024,” notes Olga Kokoreva. “This is an opera performance with lighting effects. This year, we are also expecting many guests.” The festival’s finale in September will feature “Neoclassics in Kuskovo” — music will sound against the backdrop of a historic palace.

Multimedia Quests: History Through Technology

The most unexpected format of the festival combines augmented reality technologies with deep immersion into the historical context. All you need is a smartphone — multimedia city quests can be found onfestival page. “We have developed routes with puzzles,” explains Irina Kokoreva, “to solve a code, find extra objects in a painting, or find all the old locks on the facade or fence of a mansion.”

There is an online version of the quests – they can be completed from anywhere in the world. "And the most important thing is that, by completing each task, you open a colorful video about the history of the object, the inhabitants of the estate and its secrets," says the festival curator.

Meetings in any weather

The festival also takes place in the winter season as part of the Winter in Moscow project. The summer and winter programs differ: in winter there are more indoor events — chamber concerts and lectures, in summer — outdoors.

"Moscow Estates" attracts an ever-increasing audience, many guests come with their families. Some propose marriage in the old estates – this has already become a good tradition. Old acquaintances meet: the organizers know of a case when two classmates who had not seen each other for 20 years and lost contact met at the festival.

Reconnecting with the bright moments of the past, discovering different ways to relax, meeting loved ones and meeting new people – this is the meaning of the festival "Moscow Estates". It will last until September 14 – you can follow the program on poster page.

The SPbPU project “Development of a decision-making model for the optimal functioning of the electric power system under conditions of extreme weather events” under the supervision of Professor Vyacheslav Burlov of the Higher School of Technosphere Safety of the Civil Engineering Institute received a grant from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation to conduct scientific research with partners from Latin American and Caribbean countries.

Polytechnic will work on the project together withTechnological University of Havana José Antonio Echeverría (CUJAE) and the Russian industrial partner, the RIO design bureau.

Scientists will analyze the scientific and technical state of the energy security system of the Republic of Cuba in order to establish a connection between power supply interruptions and the technical condition of equipment and weather conditions. Based on the results of the analysis, a list of threats to the region's power supply will be compiled, and on its basis, models of security processes and the target process of power supply will be developed. On their basis, scientists will develop an innovative intelligent decision-making model that ensures reliable and sustainable operation of electric power systems in extreme climatic conditions: during hurricanes and typhoons, in severe frost and heat.

In contrast to the existing practice of developing energy security models based on an analysis built on the assessment of accidents that have occurred, comparison of objects and forecasting possible problems in the process of their operation, a natural-scientific approach to managing the regional power supply system will allow the formation of processes with predetermined properties.

The feasibility of conducting applied research together with the Technological University of Havana is due to the fact that the task of ensuring energy security is one of the primary ones for Cuba today. In February, March, October and December 2024, the country experienced a series of power outages. This problem is also relevant for the Russian Federation. For example, on July 16, 2024, a large-scale power outage occurred in the south of Russia and the North Caucasus, caused by increased loads on the power system due to heat and a failure of generating equipment at the Rostov Nuclear Power Plant.

The joint development will be a step towards the development of "smart" energy grids capable of maintaining stable power supply and increasing consumer safety. The project emphasizes the importance of transitioning to advanced technologies for designing and creating high-tech products based on the use of intelligent manufacturing solutions, robotic and high-performance computing systems, new materials and chemical compounds, results of processing large volumes of data, machine learning technologies and artificial intelligence.

This project is a vivid example of how modern science and advanced technologies, in particular artificial intelligence, can solve global challenges. Our collaboration with CUJAE highlights the importance of international cooperation in creating innovative solutions that can change the future of energy in Russia, Cuba and beyond, – said Yuri Fomin, Vice-Rector for Research at SPbPU.

The priority stage of enrollment for bachelor's and specialist's programs has passed at the Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University. 852 first-year students can already proudly call themselves polytechnics and find themselves in the lists of those enrolled using a unique code or personal account ID. The lists are available on the website "Admission 2025".

The first main heroes of the 2025 admission campaign were the winners and prize winners of the All-Russian School Olympiad and Olympiads from the list of the Russian Council of School Olympiads, as well as applicants admitted under quotas. A record number of people have already been enrolled in the Polytechnic University and its branch based on the results of the Olympiads – 185 applicants. In addition, 292 people were enrolled under targeted admission and 375 under a special and separate quota.

I decided to apply to Polytechnic University back in the 9th grade — after participating in the Engineering League and joint programs with the Academy of Talents of St. Petersburg. This helped me understand what I wanted to do. I had no doubts when choosing a university, and the support of talented applicants this year only strengthened my choice! Taking a prize place in the Olympiad, of course, was not easy, but I prepared hard: I attended clubs, solved Olympiad tasks from previous years, participated in various hackathons and real-time programming competitions, and also completed a two-year course from Yandex Lyceum. And it was worth it — it gives confidence when applying. Even guys with high scores were not competitors for me. I am looking forward to an intense study, a sought-after profession, and a cool student community. Polytechnic University is a place where the best gather! — shared his impressions a first-year student of the Computer Security program, winner of the Gazprom industry Olympiad for schoolchildren in computer science Savva Lastochkin.

Among those admitted without exams is a graduate of the Natural Science Lyceum of SPbPU Andrey Kapustyanik. He became a prize winner of the final stage of the All-Russian School Olympiad in Technology and was among the few applicants admitted to the Polytechnic University without entrance examinations.

The admissions campaign continues – on August 7, the lists of those admitted through the main competition for the main budget places will be published.

We congratulate the newly minted polytechnicians and wish them a vibrant student life, scientific discoveries and professional victories!
