Moscow, August 11 (Xinhua) — Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a telephone conversation, the Kremlin press service reported on Monday.

N. Pashinyan informed the Russian president in detail about the results of his meeting with the leaders of the United States and Azerbaijan, Donald Trump and Ilham Aliyev, in Washington.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump said at a press conference at the White House on Monday that he was deploying the National Guard to help restore law and order and public safety in Washington.

D. Trump also said he had formally invoked the District of Columbia Home Rule Act to place the Metropolitan Police Department under direct federal control.

“Today is D.C. Liberation Day, and we are going to take back our capital,” the American leader noted.

The president said his administration deployed 500 federal agents to the district last week, including members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Park Police, the Marshals Service, the Secret Service and the Department of Homeland Security.

Since returning to the White House, Trump has repeatedly criticized the situation with violent crime and homelessness in Washington, accusing local authorities of mismanagement and threatening to place the District of Columbia under federal control.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday vowed to evict all homeless people from the U.S. capital, Washington.

“The homeless need to leave now. We will provide you with places to live, but away from the capital,” the American leader wrote in a post on his social platform Truth Social. “Criminals, you don’t need to go anywhere. We will put you in jail where you belong,” he added.

According to D. Trump, this step is intended to cope with the sharp increase in the number of crimes in the capital.

Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser, however, denied the claim.

"We've spent the last two years reducing violent crime in this city to a 30-year low," Bowser told MSNBC.

TEHRAN, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — Iran is ready to accept some restrictions on its nuclear program in exchange for lifting sanctions, but considers the issue of completely halting uranium enrichment "non-negotiable," Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi said recently.

“Iran can show flexibility regarding enrichment capacities and limits, but under no circumstances will it agree to stop it, since it is of vital importance to us, and we must rely on ourselves, not on empty promises,” M. Takht-Ravanchi said in an interview with the Japanese news agency Kyodo Tsushin on Saturday.

Asked about the possibility of resuming Iranian-American talks on the nuclear program, he said: “Iran is ready to negotiate with the United States, but Washington should first clarify whether it is interested in a win-win dialogue or in imposing its will.”

TEHRAN, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday warned against any potential U.S. moves aimed at achieving hegemonic goals in the South Caucasus region under the pretext of investment and peace.

As noted in a statement released by the Iranian presidential office, M. Pezeshkian made the relevant statement during a telephone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

He noted that Iran welcomes the peace agreement signed on August 8 in Washington between its northern neighbors Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as any agreement that will promote peace, especially between regional countries.

However, the Iranian president warned that the agreement should guarantee peace and development, and not become a tool for foreign states to achieve their hegemonic goals through interference.

Baku, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry on Monday released the text of the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, initialed on Aug. 8 in Washington by the foreign ministers of the two countries during a meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

The Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations establishes the obligations of the parties to respect the sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of each other's international borders, and to refrain from the use of force or the threat of its use.

The document provides for the establishment of diplomatic relations, the renunciation of mutual territorial claims and interstate lawsuits, as well as a ban on the deployment of armed forces of third countries along the border.

The agreement stipulates the creation of a bilateral commission to monitor the implementation of the terms of the agreement and resolve possible disputes. In addition, the parties undertake to cooperate in the search for missing persons during armed conflicts and to develop ties in the economic, transport, humanitarian and cultural spheres.

BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — China strongly dissatisfied with and firmly opposes irresponsible remarks by G7 members and relevant Western countries and organizations on the law enforcement activities of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) government, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said Monday.

The diplomat made the statement at a regular departmental press briefing, commenting on the news that members and associate members of the G7 Rapid Response Mechanism recently issued a statement attacking and denigrating the Hong Kong police's decision to issue arrest warrants for those involved in the illegal election activities of the so-called "Hong Kong parliament," calling these actions "transnational repression."

Lin Jian noted that the law enforcement actions taken by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region police against overseas individuals who oppose China and destabilize the situation in Hong Kong are in line with the Law of the People's Republic of China on Safeguarding National Security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Regulations on Safeguarding National Security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, as well as international law and generally accepted practices.

BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — China opposes any action that harms civilians and condemns violent acts against journalists, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said Monday.

Lin Jian made the statement in response to a media question regarding reports that five Al Jazeera correspondents were killed in an Israeli airstrike early Monday morning Beijing time, and that 237 journalists have been killed since the start of Israel's massive military operation.
