NANJING, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) — Nanjing Forestry University (NLU) recently opened an urban culture study camp for Chinese and Russian students.

The event was attended by a delegation of students and teachers majoring in design from Russian universities. Students from both countries will use advanced digital design thinking to jointly explore ways of contemporary expression and innovative dissemination of intangible cultural heritage /ICH/.

According to the NLU website, in his welcoming speech, NLU Vice-Rector Yin Tongming emphasized that culture is a bridge that connects hearts, and the “boundlessness of traditional Chinese culture” reflects the essence of the mutual enrichment of civilizations, while “innovative craftsmanship” infuses tradition with the vitality of modernity. Nanjing Forestry University has always adhered to the strategy of internationalization, and, relying on the only doctoral program in design among agricultural and forestry universities in the country and the platform of leading and key disciplines in Jiangsu Province (East China), shoulders the responsibility and has the ability to play a leading role in promoting the creative transformation and innovative development of excellent Chinese traditional culture, and promoting exchanges and mutual enrichment between Chinese and foreign civilizations.

Yin Tongming said that promoting special cooperation with Russian universities has become an important milestone in NLU's active expansion of educational and cultural exchanges with Russia and active construction of the educational design community within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. The university regards this training camp as a starting point for exploring ways to establish a long-term cooperation mechanism in design education between young people in China and Russia.

It is reported that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Nanjing Forestry University has established deep partnerships with more than 100 famous universities and research institutes in more than 20 countries and regions. This week-long training camp will focus on “decoding the cultural code of Nanjing.” The camp program will include visits to key cultural sites such as the Nanjing Folk Customs Museum and the Yunjin Brocade Institute, as well as deep immersion projects in the study of traditional NCH crafts. -0-

BEIJING, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) — Since the beginning of this year, two automobile checkpoints on the Chinese-Kyrgyz border in the Kizilsu Kyrgyz Autonomous Prefecture of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region have seen a significant increase in border crossings, the press service of the prefecture said.

As of August 11, the Irkeshtam and Torugart checkpoints exceeded 179.6 thousand and 17 thousand person-times this year, an increase of 82.6 and 293.21 percent, respectively, according to the latest data from the Xinjiang Border Administration.

The increase in border crossings at the Irkeshtam checkpoint was achieved due to increased efficiency and capacity in passenger transportation following the launch of cross-border tourism services at this border crossing.

According to a representative of one of the local transport companies, the company operates twice a week on the recently opened international passenger route from the city of Atushi /located in the above-mentioned district/ to the Kyrgyz city of Osh. The distance between the two settlements is 720 km, which takes only 12 hours to cover.

According to customs officials at the Torugart checkpoint, the increase in border crossings was due to the increase in the number of employees involved in the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project.

There has also been a noticeable increase in the number of foreign tourists and tour groups passing through Torugart, they added. -0-

NSU students to undergo training at T1 holding IT camp

The first stage of training in the T1 IT camp started on July 8. As it was found out by the T1 IT holding, 25% of students of Novosibirsk technical universities associate their career future with system analytics. Statistics based on the assessment of the popularity of the IT holding's educational programs, the professional priorities of future IT specialists in Novosibirsk reflect the general trend in the country – system analytics is the leader in many regions, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Izhevsk. The second and third places in popularity were taken by backend and frontend development – these tracks were chosen by 23% and 17% of future IT specialists, respectively. Also in demand among young people are the specialties of tester and application administrator.

The bootcamp participants included 144 students from Novosibirsk. The largest number of students came from Novosibirsk State University — 42 students were enrolled in the IT camp. This is due to the fact that NSU is focused on practice-oriented learning. For several years now, IT holding T1 has been a strategic partner of the university — the company's employees participate in the development of training courses and give lectures, conduct career guidance events and train teachers to work with new digital tools. Over the past six months, more than 3,000 NSU students have attended events organized in partnership with T1.

Future IT specialists in the IT camp will be able to gain "combat experience" by solving real business problems. Experience is one of the most important criteria for employers when hiring. In 2025, the holding's initiative collected a record number of applications – more than 7,000, which is 2.5 times more than last year. Almost 3,000 candidates passed the entrance test, and 1,535 people were accepted to the educational intensive.

The IT camp is taught in a hybrid format. At the first stage, participants undergo online training, including lectures from T1 experts, master classes on developing technical and soft skills, and analysis of practical tasks. The second stage is project work: participants will unite in teams to develop real solutions under the guidance of experienced mentors. The IT camp will end with an in-person final. It will take place on August 28 in three cities – Novosibirsk, Moscow, and Yekaterinburg. All students will receive certificates of participation, and the most successful will be invited to an internship at the company. Last year, 80% of the camp participants became T1 interns.

— To quickly start a career, graduates of even top IT universities often lack practical skills and a general understanding of the trajectory of professional movement. To help young specialists overcome this barrier, we create an environment that brings together young people and expert practitioners who are implementing ambitious digital transformation projects today. This transfer of living knowledge is the basis of the T1 IT camp and our other educational projects, — commented Dmitry Kharitonov, First Deputy General Director of T1 IT holding.

Novosibirsk State University (NSU) together with IT holding T1 is implementing Bachelor's degree program "Applied Artificial Intelligence". This year, 150 students will be accepted. Graduates of the program will master one of the most popular areas in the modern labor market. According to experts, 70% of Russian companies are already using AI in their work, and the demand for professionals with skills in working with AI and machine learning technologies has tripled in recent years. Submission of documents for the new bachelor's program at NSU ends on August 25.

BEIJING, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) — The 15th China-Russia Culture and Art Fair, which kicked off on July 26 in Heihe City, Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, will end on August 20 in the Russian city of Blagoveshchensk.

The event, first held in 2010, has become an important link between Chinese and Russian culture and art, as well as an important brand promoting cultural cooperation and exchanges between China and Russia, the Chinese newspaper Zhongguo Wenhuabao /Chinese Culture/ emphasizes.

On Wednesday, the newspaper published an article titled “Let the citizens of China and Russia sing, dance and have fun,” which described the events that have already taken place within the framework of the 15th China-Russia Culture and Art Fair, as well as the significance of its holding.

The article says that the current fair is being organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China, the People's Government of Heilongjiang Province, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, and the government of the Amur Region. Its program includes 47 events in four areas, including high-level mutual visits, cultural exchanges, presentation events, and the construction of a border cultural and tourism corridor, designed to intensify cultural and tourism ties between border cities in the two countries.

He Jing, Director of the Heilongjiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, said that through vibrant and diverse exchange activities, the organizers of the fair intend to promote Chinese-Russian cultural exchanges and innovative development of the cultures of the two countries, strengthen spiritual communication and friendship between the peoples of the two countries, and promote bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields to a higher level.

The above-mentioned newspaper drew attention to one of the main events of the fair – the cultural and tourist show “Evening Banquet on the Banks of the Heilongjiang River”, which takes place on weekends in the “Shanghui” Square in the city of Heihe. At it, citizens of China and Russia sing in chorus, dance, play solo saxophone and perform other numbers, thus providing cultural and audiovisual pleasure to city residents and visiting tourists.

On August 1, the Heihe city opened an exhibition of calligraphy and painting works as part of the fair, which featured 200 works by calligraphers and artists from all over China. The fair program also included a Chinese-Russian exhibition of paintings on the theme of winter and a thematic photo exhibition on the theme of ice patterns on the glass of frozen windows.

The above-mentioned newspaper article said that the fair in Heihe City included an intangible cultural heritage display, a China-Russia food festival, a China-Russia fishing competition, a China-Russia chess competition, a Heihe Fitness Day and a mass aerobics competition.

Heihe Mayor Qin Bo said that the aforementioned fair has built a bridge for deepening mutual understanding and strengthening friendship through cultural and artistic activities, people-to-people interaction and tourism programs, brought out the cultural vitality and tourism potential, and injected new impetus into the prosperity and development of the border areas of the two countries.
