BEIJING, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) — China is willing to work with Kazakhstan to elevate the China-Kazakhstan eternal comprehensive strategic partnership to a new height and bring more stability and certainty to world peace and development, Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang said on Tuesday.

Ding Xuexiang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the statement at the opening ceremony of the 8th meeting of the China-Kazakhstan Business Council.

According to the Vice Premier of the State Council, China and Kazakhstan should find more common ground, actively explore new models of cooperation, and hand in hand build a more meaningful and dynamic community of shared destiny for the two countries.

Ding Xuexiang called for further strengthening the alignment of development strategies, strengthening connectivity, deepening trade and investment cooperation, and promoting people-to-people exchanges.

The business community is an important driving force in promoting practical cooperation between China and Kazakhstan, Ding Xuexiang said, calling on enterprises from both sides to actively use the committee's capabilities to make greater contributions to bilateral cooperation.

Speaking at the meeting, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed support for cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road initiative and said his country is ready to deepen practical cooperation with China in areas such as transport, logistics, energy, manufacturing and the digital economy.

BEIJING, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday said China-Russia relations serve as a benchmark for major-country relations and vowed to strengthen high-level exchanges, mutual support and coordination to further develop bilateral ties in the future.

As Xi Jinping noted during talks with Vladimir Putin, who arrived in China to attend the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit and events marking the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, Chinese-Russian relations are characterized by eternal good-neighborliness and friendship, comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction, mutually beneficial cooperation and win-win.

According to the Chinese President, China is willing to strengthen high-level exchanges with Russia, support each other's development and rise, promptly coordinate positions on issues affecting the core interests and major concerns of the two countries, and promote further progress in interstate relations.

Xi Jinping stressed that the two sides should guide each other's cooperation through large-scale projects, create model cooperation projects, and promote the deep integration of each other's interests. He called for enhancing the sustainability of cooperation, deepening mutual understanding in cooperation, and making efforts to consolidate and safeguard the overall situation of cooperation.

In 2024, trade turnover between the two countries increased to 244.8 billion US dollars. China has remained Russia's largest trading partner for 15 years in a row.

In May of this year, the Chairman of the PRC paid a state visit to Russia and took part in celebrations in Moscow dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet Union in the Great Patriotic War.

According to Xi Jinping, the mutual participation of the leaders of China and Russia in the events held by both sides to mark the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War fully demonstrates the responsibility of the two powers as the main victors of World War II and permanent members of the UN Security Council. It also shows the firm determination of the two countries to uphold the results of the victory in World War II and the correct view of its history, the Chinese leader added.

Xi Jinping pointed out that the Global Governance Initiative he put forward aims to work together with all countries with common aspirations and ideals to resolutely safeguard the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and promote the building of a fairer and more reasonable global governance system.

China and Russia should further strengthen cooperation within multilateral formats including the UN, SCO, BRICS and the G20, to jointly promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, the Chinese president said.

The Global Governance Initiative is the fourth major global initiative put forward by Xi Jinping in recent years, following the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative. The Chinese leader previously outlined five principles for the Global Governance Initiative: upholding sovereign equality, upholding the international rule of law, implementing multilateralism, pursuing a people-centered approach and being action-oriented.

V. Putin, for his part, noted that the close communication between the leaders of the two countries reflects the strategic nature of Russian-Chinese relations, which are at an unprecedentedly high level.

The Russian President noted that the decision to jointly celebrate the anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression is "a tribute to the feat of our peoples, the peoples of Russia and China, during the Second World War, a confirmation of the key role of our countries in achieving victory in the European and Asian theatres of military operations, and evidence of a common readiness to defend historical truth and justice."

According to the Russian President, the Global Governance Initiative put forward by President Xi Jinping is timely and necessary, and will play an important role in solving the problem of the global governance deficit.

V. Putin stressed that Russia is ready to maintain strategic cooperation with China, strengthen high-level exchanges, and enhance practical cooperation in various fields, promoting further high-level development of bilateral relations.

The two heads of state also discussed in depth international and regional issues of mutual interest.

The parties signed more than 20 documents on bilateral cooperation in areas such as energy, space, artificial intelligence, agriculture, inspection and quarantine, healthcare, scientific research, education and media.

Moscow, September 2 /Xinhua/ — “In my work, I will tell about my great-great-grandfather Pavel Fyodorovich Zhigarev, who lived an amazing life. He went from being a cavalry boy to being the chief marshal of aviation…” This is what third-grade student Fyodor Zhigarev wrote in his school essay “The Trace of War in My Family” four years ago.

The boy presented unique records from the family archive, photographs, letters, award sheets and other documents of his great-great-grandfather. One of the photographs shows a group of pilots against the background of an airplane. The photo was taken in 1937, on the eve of P. Zhigarev's business trip to China, where he went with the rank of colonel to fight against militaristic Japan.

“I came to the command and said: ‘I want to fly to China voluntarily to fight.’ And I flew,” says Konstantin Bobyrev, a member of the marshal’s large family. “China and Russia are neighbors. And neighbors should always help each other out, help each other.”

THE WAY TO CHINA

The future Soviet military leader, Commander-in-Chief of the USSR Air Force /1949-1957/, Chief Marshal of Aviation Pavel Zhigarev was born on November 19, 1900 in the Tver province to a poor peasant family. At the age of 18, he entered military service as a cavalryman. In 1925, at his own request, P. Zhigarev was transferred to aviation. He graduated from the Leningrad Military School of Observer Pilots, taught for several years, then studied at the N. E. Zhukovsky Air Force Academy of the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army, and in 1933 became Chief of Staff of the Kachin Higher Aviation School of Pilots and commanded aviation units.

In 1937-1938, P. Zhigarev was sent to China, where he led a group of Soviet volunteer pilots. He also trained Chinese pilots to fly Soviet aircraft. Very few memories of those years have survived, and some information is still classified. According to K. Bobyrev, the son of Marshal Valery Zhigarev told how disassembled aircraft were delivered in boxes to Kazakhstan, to a place near Almaty, where they were assembled. Then they flew to Lanzhou /Northwest China/. The route, almost 3,000 km long, was fraught with dangers. Difficult terrain, unfamiliar terrain, and severe weather conditions required the crews to work clearly and harmoniously, and be constantly ready to make quick decisions. “At that time, there were no radios or any technical equipment. To the point that the Chinese comrades simply carried fuel on their backs and in their arms, because everything there was very complicated,” says K. Bobyrev.

"The war was bloody. But, nevertheless, the Japanese got their ass kicked in the skies… They thought they were the masters of the air," continues K. Bobyrev.

From June 1945, P. Zhigarev commanded the 10th Air Army, which participated in the operation to liberate Northeast China. The military leader's combat activities were highly appreciated by the Soviet leadership. In 1953, P. Zhigarev became Marshal of Aviation of the USSR, and in 1955 – Chief Marshal of Aviation of the USSR.

CHINA'S ROLE IN THE WAR FOR FREEDOM

At the beginning of the war with the Japanese militarists, the Soviet Union was one of the first to provide assistance to the Chinese people. It supplied weapons, tanks and planes. China, in turn, also provided enormous assistance to the USSR.

"If there had been no China, of course, the Japanese would have attacked us. This is absolutely obvious," explains K. Bobyrev. According to him, everyone remembers the losses suffered by the Chinese people and how bravely they fought.

"China acted as a shield… We know very well that Europe surrendered very quickly. That is, there was no conscious resistance there, and the fascists conquered it very quickly, unlike, by the way, China, which fought. It fought for a very long time," notes K. Bobyrev.

MEMORY OF THE ZHIGAREVS

The Zhigarev family believes that history should not be forgotten. “We fought together. Both our pilots and Chinese pilots performed feats together… This is our common history,” says K. Bobyrev.

Today, the marshal’s great-great-grandson, 14-year-old Fyodor, dreams of attending a military parade in China and of having as many people as possible learn about his great-great-grandfather.

Moscow, September 2 /Xinhua/ — Russia has positively assessed the decision of the Chinese Foreign Ministry to introduce a trial visa-free regime for Russian citizens for a stay of up to 30 days from September 15, 2025.

"The abolition of visas will make contacts between ordinary people and the development of business ties even easier and more productive," said Boris Titov, the representative of the Russian president for relations with international organizations to achieve sustainable development goals and the chairman of the Russian part of the Russian-Chinese Committee for Friendship, Peace and Development. In his opinion, the abolition of visas for Russians will lead to new records of tourist flow to China.

After the introduction of a visa-free regime, China may become as popular as the most popular holiday destinations for Russians – Turkey and the Middle East, noted Artur Muradyan, vice president of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia. According to his estimates, the tourist flow to China may increase by 30-40 percent.

Director of the Association of Travel Aggregators Alexander Bragin reported a twofold increase in Russians' interest in traveling to China amid reports of the introduction of a visa-free regime.

Vice President of the Alliance of Russian Travel Agencies Aleksan Mkrtchyan called the decision of the Chinese Foreign Ministry “long-awaited.”

The Russian Union of Travel Industry emphasized that the abolition of the visa-free regime for Russians is amazing news that will radically change the approach to tourism in China for Russian tourists, and their flow will increase many times over.

In a recent interview with Xinhua, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about the growth of mutual tourist flow between the two countries, which reached 2.8 million people by the end of 2024. –0–
