UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) — The leaders of the African Union (AU), the European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN) met Sunday at the UN headquarters in New York, reaffirming their support for multilateralism as the most effective way to address contemporary challenges.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, was attended by AU Commission President Mahmoud Ali Yusuf, European Council President António Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, as well as senior officials from the secretariats of the three organizations.

In a joint communiqué, the three organizations reaffirmed their support for multilateralism as the most effective way to address contemporary challenges, condemned the growing number of cases of disrespect for international law, international humanitarian law and human rights law, and emphasized the importance of upholding the UN Charter.

Representatives of the organizations discussed peace efforts in Africa, including the need to end the war in Sudan, as well as measures to strengthen the fight against armed terrorist groups and promote reconciliation and development in the Sahel. They reaffirmed their support for the UN roadmap for resuming the political process in Libya.

The three organizations called for continued efforts to ensure the implementation of UN Security Council resolution 2719 on predictable funding for AU-led peacekeeping operations on a case-by-case basis, and reaffirmed their collective commitment to strengthening durable peace and accelerating or achieving sustainable development in Africa.

The leaders called for further progress on addressing unsustainable debt levels and reforming multilateral development banks within the G20, under the South African Presidency. They also expressed concern about the growing disruptions caused by climate change worldwide and called for ambitious commitments at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30), scheduled for November 10-21 in Brazil.

According to a joint communiqué, the three organizations agreed to meet again in 2026 on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. –0–

The "Digital Solutions" information technology forum will be held in Russia. Launched with government support, it will become an annual event. The forum will bring together leading representatives of Russian IT businesses and government agencies to foster dialogue on all areas of digital transformation. The event will take place from November 12 to 15 in Moscow at the Rossiya National Center. An exhibition of the best Russian IT solutions will also be part of the event.

"Today, the IT industry is one of the fastest-growing and makes a significant contribution to the Russian economy. Digitalization has become a cross-cutting objective for the development of key sectors – from industry to medicine, education, and government services. We want IT professionals to have their own global forum where they can bring together all key areas of digital transformation on a single platform, raise pressing issues at the national level, and showcase achievements to both the IT community and the citizens of our country," noted Dmitry Grigorenko, Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of the Government Staff, who oversees digital affairs.

The Digital Solutions Forum aims to be more than just an industry conference, but a strategic platform for active interaction between business and government representatives to jointly develop measures for the development of the IT sector. Furthermore, the event will feature an exhibition of the best domestic IT solutions, which will be available for evaluation by both industrial players and citizens – the end users of these services.

The forum will open with a plenary session dedicated to discussing Russia's digital development achievements, the implementation of the national "Data Economy" project, and key areas determining the future development of the IT industry.

The forum's business program covers three thematic areas: business, society, and federal and regional government. Each area is dedicated to a separate day. This comprehensive approach will allow participants to develop a comprehensive understanding of how digital technologies impact the economy, public administration, and public life in the country.

The digital solutions exhibition is divided into eight thematic zones, focusing on key areas of the country's digital development: Communications and Telecom, Government Services, Software, Artificial Intelligence, Platforms and Services, Cybersecurity, Russian Hardware, and Personnel and Training. Interactive displays are designed to maximize engagement for visitors of all ages and backgrounds.

The forum is being held by the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications, and Mass Media of the Russian Federation with the support of the Russian Government. The project operator is the National Priorities NGO, and the forum's business program operator is the Digital Economy NGO.

UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) — UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Sunday called on the international community to "put down our weapons, end suffering, build bridges and create stability and prosperity" in his message to mark the International Day of Peace, observed annually on September 21.

"The world cannot wait," the head of the global organization said, adding that this year's International Day of Peace calls on each of us to support this call.

According to A. Guterres, all over the world, in the face of the cruelty and devastation of war, people are dying, children are deprived of their childhood, and human dignity is trampled upon.

"We're seeing an explosive growth in conflicts. International law is being ignored. And record numbers of people are fleeing their homes," he said.

"All they want is peace. Peace is everyone's business," said A. Guterres, adding that the war's consequences are spreading across the globe.

The UN chief noted that while sustainable development promotes peace, nine out of 10 countries that struggle most to develop suffer from conflict.

He called on the international community to “suppress racism, dehumanization and disinformation that are adding fuel to the fire of conflict.”

“Instead, we must speak the language of respect and open our hearts to others,” he stressed.

"Where there is peace, there is hope" – families are united, communities are rebuilt, children are learning and playing, the UN chief said.

The International Day of Peace was established by the UN General Assembly in 1981. Two decades later, in 2001, the General Assembly unanimously voted to declare the day a period of non-violence and ceasefire. This year, the International Day of Peace is being observed under the slogan "Act now for world peace."

Beijing, September 22 (Xinhua) — China is preparing for Typhoon Ragasa, the 18th typhoon of the year. Heavy rainfall is expected to hit the southern and eastern parts of the country.

According to the National Meteorological Center (NMC), Ragasa strengthened into a super typhoon on Sunday morning. It is expected to make landfall between Shanwei City, Guangdong Province, and Wenchang City, Hainan Province, between Wednesday morning and midday.

Meteorologists have warned that Ragasa, moving fast and maintaining strength, will become the most powerful typhoon to hit China this year.

As the typhoon approaches, heavy rainfall is expected from Tuesday through Thursday in eastern Taiwan and parts of Guangdong, Fujian, and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Rainfall amounts will reach 280 mm in some areas. Heavy rainfall is also expected in parts of Jiangsu and Anhui provinces, the National Meteorological Center predicted.

The NMC recommended that local authorities take precautionary measures, promptly evacuate local residents to safe areas, and strengthen security management in the transport and marine tourism sectors. -0-
