BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday announced a series of measures to support the development of global women's affairs at the Global Women's Summit.

China will donate an additional US$10 million to the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) over the next five years, Xi Jinping said at the opening ceremony of the summit in Beijing.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the reform of China's national park system. The third National Parks Forum was recently held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

The giant panda population is growing steadily.

"As of the end of last year, our center had 387 giant pandas. Their conservation and breeding efforts are shifting from quantity to quality," said Huang Zhi, director of the Ya'an Base of the Giant Panda Conservation and Breeding Center.

Longcanggou National Forest Park in Yingjing County, Ya'an City, is a popular tourist destination. Per capita income has quadrupled, and environmentally damaging activities such as poaching and bamboo shoot harvesting have virtually disappeared.

As a key habitat for giant pandas, the construction of the Sichuan section of the Giant Panda National Park has attracted considerable attention. Dr. Li Linxi researches international communication and the history of Sino-British cultural exchanges at the China University of Mass Communications. On September 26, People's Daily published her article, "From Traveler, Reporter, to Builder," which introduces her translation of "Blades of Grass: The Story of George Aylwin Hogg."

A British journalist who actively participated in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and wrote about the atrocities of the Japanese aggressors; he was the principal of the Paili School in Shuangshipu, Shaanxi Province, and gave his young life to lead students to safety… This is the story of George Hogg.

Hogg came from a wealthy family and graduated from Oxford. Initially, he planned to stay in China for only a few months. In 2019, Li Linxi met Hogg's nephew, Mark Aylwin Thomas, in London. At the time, he had completed collecting his uncle's letters and articles. Li Linxi also wanted to translate Hogg's story for a wider audience.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. This date also coincides with the 110th anniversary of George Hogue's birth and the 80th anniversary of his death.

In April of this year, three generations of Hogg's family descendants traveled to China to "retrace Hogg's steps." In July, the first UK photo exhibition dedicated to his life was held in Hogg's hometown. In September, Hogg's descendants attended a memorial ceremony in Beijing. Dr. Li Linxi presented them with a Chinese edition of "Blades of Grass – The Story of George Aylwin Hogg" and related reports as a souvenir.
