Beijing, October 15 (Xinhua) — China on Wednesday requested consultations with India at the World Trade Organization (WTO) regarding India's subsidies in the electric vehicle and battery sectors, the Ministry of Commerce announced.

India's measures are said to violate a number of WTO commitments, including the principle of national treatment, and constitute import subsidies, which are formally prohibited under WTO rules, a ministry spokesperson said in a statement.

These measures unfairly benefit Indian domestic industries and undermine China's legitimate interests, the ministry spokesman said, adding that China will take resolute measures to thoroughly protect the legitimate rights and interests of domestic industries.

China has noted that over a period of time, some of India's trade and economic measures have been found to be inconsistent with WTO rules, which has caused widespread concern among WTO members, the official said, calling on India to abide by its WTO commitments and promptly correct its erroneous practices. -0-

Beijing, October 15 (Xinhua) — The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan international multimodal transport route began trial operation on Wednesday. The creation and trial operation of this corridor demonstrates Kashgar's growing importance in the international logistics network under the Belt and Road Initiative, according to the unified information center of the converged editorial office of Kashgar Prefecture in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The trial operation covers two multimodal transport routes, with cargo transported by rail from Xi'an in Shaanxi Province and Chengdu in Sichuan Province to Kashgar for consolidation, and then crossing the border through the Irkeshtam border crossing. One route utilizes combined road and rail transport: trucks depart Kashgar for Kyrgyzstan, where the cargo is transferred to rail trains. The goods then travel to the international seaport of Turkmenbashi, where they then cross the Caspian Sea and reach Baku in Azerbaijan. The other route is the first to use Chinese trucks to directly transport cargo through Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan in a single trip, destined for Ashgabat.

HOHHOT, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) — The total number of freight trains that passed through the Erenhot Port of North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on the China-Europe international freight railway since its launch in 2013 reached nearly 21,000 as of Oct. 14, with the total volume of freight carried exceeding 20 million tons.

The Ereenhot checkpoint is a key hub on the central route for international rail freight transport between China and Europe. Currently, 74 China-Europe rail routes pass through this checkpoint. These lines reach over 140 cities and stations in more than 10 countries in Asia and Europe.

At the same time, the range of goods transported by China-Europe freight trains is becoming increasingly diverse, with more than 40 percent of the total freight volume being high-value-added goods, including Chinese-made vehicles, machinery, and electronic devices.

These freight services have already become an important channel for Chinese goods to enter global markets, said Zhang Jianwei, deputy head of the Ereen Hot Customs. -0-

GUIYANG, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) — As the Huajiang Gorge Bridge in southwest China's Guizhou Province was shrouded in morning fog, Xie Chaoqing, a local guesthouse owner, flew his drone past the bridge's tallest support tower, capturing the awe-inspiring grandeur of the world's tallest operating bridge. He says the structure has completely changed his life.

The Huajiang Gorge Bridge, rising 625 meters above the Beipan River in the Guizhou mountains, is nearly nine times taller than San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge. The 2,890-meter-long structure, which spans the Huajiang Gorge, known as the "crack in the earth," is the latest link in the rapidly expanding infrastructure network of the world's second-largest economy.

Since the bridge opened to traffic in late September this year, travel time across the gorge has been reduced from two hours to just two minutes, significantly improving regional connectivity.

Local authorities are striving to transform this engineering marvel into a world-renowned tourist attraction, rivaling the popularity of Huangguoshu Waterfall, Asia's largest waterfall, located just 50 km away. From the very beginning of construction in 2022, the bridge was designed with tourism in mind.

The area around the bridge, covering more than 50 square kilometers, has been included in the plan and is being developed as a high-altitude tourism destination offering a variety of outdoor activities, including extreme sports, scientific education, sightseeing, and leisure, said Jian Jijun, deputy general manager of the Guizhou Local Transport and Investment Corporation.

Xie Chaoqing's guesthouse, located at the foot of the bridge, offers a beautiful view from its rooftop terrace. During the recently concluded National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays (October 1-8), all ten-plus rooms were booked in advance. "We had entire families coming to see the bridge. We even offered some of them a room for free," Xie Chaoqing recalls.

According to official data, 220,000 tourists visited the bridge during the aforementioned holidays. "This project has given many of us local residents a new sense of direction and purpose in life," said Xie Chaoqing, observing the steady flow of tourists.

Like many others, 43-year-old Xie Chaoqing and his wife once found themselves riding the wave of the e-commerce boom in eastern China's Zhejiang Province. A return to his hometown of Guizhou, one of China's least developed provinces, marked a career shift toward content creation. He became a social media influencer, collaborating with friends to create short videos about rural life.

While filming outdoors in May 2022, he saw the future tallest bridge in the world, still under construction, inspiring him to document its construction from start to finish. From that day on, he visited the construction site every month or every other month to capture the progress with his drone.

The completion of the bridge's main support tower in early 2024 marked a significant milestone. Despite his family's concerns, Xie Chaoqing put all other work on hold and dedicated himself to filming the final stages of construction, documenting the bridge's progress throughout all four seasons. The breathtaking, and sometimes dangerous, footage has become a veritable treasure trove of viral content for his online platform.

Currently, his account on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, has garnered 4.6 million likes, and his most popular video has been viewed over 70 million times. He has over 1.5 million followers across various social media platforms.

During filming, Xie Chaoqing explored every nearby hill and visited every village. "When I was a child, the journey here was a difficult trek through mountains and rivers. Now, the deep gorge has become a straightforward route," he said.

He saw an opportunity when he noticed many internet users asking about hotel accommodations in the comments section of his video about the bridge. "So, I went to Huajiang Village, which is located below the bridge, rented a house there, and converted it into a guesthouse," he said. "I had a feeling that once the bridge opened to traffic, there would be a real tourism boom here," he added.

He said the bridge's opening had completely revived the village, with its neat streets, landscaped gardens and old buildings converted into guesthouses and traditional restaurants.

“Many of my subscribers, when they make a booking, say they’re coming not only to see the bridge but also to enjoy extreme sports,” he said.

After visiting the Huajiang Gorge Bridge, social media influencer Lin Xi was so captivated by its grandeur that she decided to climb the bridge and experience the thrill of a "skywalk." She said, "This bridge is a true engineering marvel for humanity. I can't wait to experience what it's like to walk more than 600 meters above the earth's surface."

According to Xiao Yuming, head of the market development department of the aforementioned transportation and investment corporation, during the National Day holiday alone, over 1,000 visitors were able to experience the thrill of high-altitude extreme sports such as skywalking, bungee jumping, and giant swings.

Furthermore, the Guizhou Provincial Geological Museum brought two marine paleontological fossils to the bridge for display. This scientific geological exhibition aims to demonstrate the profound geological changes that have occurred in the area over the past 200 million years. Furthermore, the exhibition also featured over 50 types of cultural and creative products related to paleontological fossils.

According to Wei Qianzhu, a staff member in the museum's cultural and creative products department, the museum's sales during the eight-day holiday exceeded 50,000 yuan (about $7,040), and items such as mystery boxes featuring glow-in-the-dark paleobionts sold out almost instantly.

According to the 2025 Work Report of the Guizhou Provincial Government, Guizhou plans to enhance the role of the Huajiang Gorge Bridge to promote the integrated development of cultural tourism, agro-tourism, sports tourism and bridge-related tourism.

"This is not just a bridge, but a 'golden gate' that channels vital flows of people, goods, capital and information into our area," said Li Zuping, head of Zhenfeng County, where the bridge is located. -0-

Guiyang, October 15 (Xinhua) — As health awareness takes center stage, drinks containing ingredients used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) are gaining popularity among young Chinese. This is challenging the stereotype that TCM is used only to treat illnesses, turning it into a trendy option for everyday wellness.

The store at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Guizhou Province, southwest China, offers unique drinks such as longan latte and coffee with dried tangerine peel. Developed by a team of TCM practitioners and pharmacists, these drinks combine the medicinal properties of herbs with modern flavor preferences.

"Every new product we released was incredibly popular," said Yu Jia, head of the development team. The hospital began developing products with TCM ingredients in 2022 and opened a specialized store in October 2024. Yu Jia noted that the initial goal was to provide therapeutic nutrition to elderly patients, but the TCM drinks unexpectedly became a hit among younger customers.

Currently, this store offers over 20 types of TCM products, with 70% of its customers being young people. Its peak daily revenue has exceeded 10,000 yuan (approximately $1,407).

A prune dessert released this summer sold out on the first morning. "Even though the season is over, some customers still ask about it," says store employee Zeng Huaying.

Meanwhile, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine has launched its own neo-Chinese style beverage brand, Cha Bu Bu (tea tonic drinks), which uses ingredients recognized for both food and medicine to develop more than 20 products.

"We ensure that our products meet medical standards while adhering to healthy eating principles," said hospital nutritionist Shi Hui. According to brand manager Zhou Shan, thanks to the drinks' pleasant taste and health benefits, the brand opened another store this year, with daily sales of up to 200 cups during peak seasons.

The hospital also plans to open a TCM-themed retail outlet offering tea drinks, medicinal soups, baked goods, and cultural and creative goods.

Shi Hui said her team is developing TCM drinks based on the 24 seasons of the Chinese agricultural calendar, as well as products such as lip balms and medicated soaps, to make TCM more accessible in everyday products.

Growing health awareness among young people has also captured the market's attention. According to consulting firm Kantar Worldpanel, renewed growth in the Chinese beverage industry in 2024 was driven by the TCM wellness trend: sales of TCM tea drinks increased by 182% year-on-year.

Data from research company iiMedia Research showed that the TCM tea market in China reached 64.27 billion yuan in 2025 and is expected to exceed 100 billion yuan by 2028. -0-

Beijing, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) — Beijing has set ambitious targets to boost the service capacity of its two international airports, Capital and Daxing, aiming for annual passenger and cargo turnover at these two airports to exceed 160 million person-times and 2.5 million tons, respectively, by 2030, local authorities said.

Over the next five years, the city will make efforts to increase the connectivity of its two local international airports with major global aviation hubs, important capital cities, and countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative. This was announced at a press conference on Tuesday by Lai Xianyu, deputy head of the Beijing Development and Reform Commission.

The satellite lounge project at Daxing Airport will begin soon to increase capacity for international passengers.

In terms of improving service quality, measures will be taken to further reduce waiting times from the completion of pre-flight formalities until the aircraft doors close, as well as ground taxi times, optimize and expedite customs procedures, and strengthen capacity for transfer and transit transportation. Efforts will also be made to improve the functioning of the adjacent business zone.

Currently, these two airports serve flights linking Beijing with more than 120 destinations in 64 countries and regions, ranking first in the country in terms of geographical coverage.

In 2024, Beijing Capital and Daxing Airports handled 117 million passengers, reaching a historical high.

In addition, Beijing served 4.85 million inbound and outbound foreign tourists in 2024, up 125 percent year-on-year. -0-
