Source: Rosneft – An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Rosneft's Research Institute in Krasnoyarsk held a seismic data interpretation championship as part of the VIII All-Russian Conference "Seismic Exploration in Siberia and Beyond," which attracted industry experts from across the country.

Participants were tasked with analyzing seismic data and determining the depth and shape of a target geological formation. Various methods, including neural networks, data processing, and acoustic inversion, were used to solve these problems. Two of the three prizes in the championship were won by Rosneft specialists from Krasnoyarsk and Moscow. Furthermore, an artificial intelligence system developed by experts from the Krasnoyarsk Institute successfully solved the problem at the same level as the championship winners.

The annual seismic exploration conference, hosted by the Company's Krasnoyarsk institute, brought together more than 300 industry specialists – employees of scientific institutes and mining companies, research and design organizations, Russian oil and gas companies, and Russian Academy of Sciences institutions.

The conference's key topics included technologies for conducting fieldwork and processing seismic data, modern data interpretation methods, and the development and application of new algorithms. Participants were particularly interested in artificial intelligence-based developments for processing and interpreting seismic data. This year, the conference program included new, relevant thematic sections: "Seismic Exploration in Support of Development" and "Integration of Geophysical Methods."

At the conference, specialists from the Krasnoyarsk Institute presented developments using artificial intelligence for the automated identification of paleoincisions (ancient landforms, such as coastal ravines or depressions), which is particularly important for reducing drilling risks in fields with complex geological structures.

As a leader in seismic data management, Rosneft annually organizes one of the country's central platforms for sharing experiences and best practices. Rosneft's Krasnoyarsk corporate institute hosts the largest single seismic data storage center among Russian oil and gas companies, containing over 5,800 terabytes of data, ensuring the efficient operation of the company's specialists.

Rosneft has developed a program to preserve biodiversity in all regions of its operations.

Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

Source: Rosneft – An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Rosneft environmentalists have developed a standard corporate program for biodiversity conservation in all regions where the Company operates. The document was developed based on years of experience in biodiversity conservation research and projects, as well as a wealth of scientific data obtained during numerous environmental expeditions.

Experts from the A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Rosneft's Arctic Research Center, and the Company's research institute in Tyumen were involved in the research.

The program is the result of extensive work that resulted in the formation of a prioritized and comprehensive list of significant biological indicator species of marine and terrestrial mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles, fish, terrestrial invertebrates, zooplankton and phytoplankton, and terrestrial plants. The document contains a full description of each bioindicator species.

While working on the program, environmentalists compiled registers of specially protected natural areas in Russia that correspond to category 1a "Strict Nature Reserve" and category 1b "Wildlife Area" according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) classification. These natural sites have high ecological significance and are included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Registers of mandatory and additional biodiversity conservation measures implemented in 2018–2022 in the Company's regions of operation were also compiled.

The program takes into account the requirements and recommendations of Russian legislation in the field of biodiversity conservation, as well as the provisions of the Kunming-Montreal Global Framework Program and other international agreements, as well as the recommendations of international industry associations of oil and gas producers.

The document also includes a standard template for a biodiversity conservation program for subsidiaries. A pilot test is planned for a number of companies. Based on the results of the pilot project, it is planned to approve a unified standard program for the Company's biodiversity conservation, which will take into account the specifics of the region, the type of activity, and other criteria of the subsidiaries. This will significantly contribute to supporting national environmental projects.

Preservation and restoration of ecosystems and the implementation of biodiversity conservation programs are among Rosneft's strategic environmental goals.

Rosneft is implementing the largest Arctic flora and fauna study program since Soviet times. Over 13 years, more than 60 expeditions have been conducted, covering all Arctic seas, islands, and coastlines. During the course of the study, habitats were thoroughly explored and over 400 animals were examined, 140 individuals were tagged with satellite transmitters, and over 1,500 laboratory analyses were performed on collected biological samples.

Rosneft supports the Amur Tiger Center's efforts to increase the Amur tiger population and protect the environment within the predator's habitat. The Company's funds are being used to develop a comprehensive Amur tiger conservation system, including outside specially protected natural areas, equipping hunting control teams with modern technology and equipment to combat poaching, prey conservation, and the reduction of human-tiger conflicts. The project also includes population monitoring and scientific research on the largest cat on Earth, as well as outreach and educational activities. These joint efforts have helped increase the Amur tiger population, which currently exceeds 750 individuals, ensuring the conservation of this unique animal.

Rosneft subsidiaries also implement various conservation projects to study key flora and fauna species in the regions where they operate. In the Far East, 80 Steller's sea eagle nesting sites were discovered during the "Under a Strong Wing" project. The project aims to restore and preserve the population of this bird species. The data obtained served as the basis for developing a set of measures to protect the largest birds in the Far East, which are listed in the Red Book.

With the Company's support, specialists from the Central Siberian State Nature Reserve in Evenkia studied musk deer habitats. The scientists discovered that the population in an area previously considered unsuitable for these even-toed ungulates now numbers 300 individuals. The research findings open new avenues for protecting the small musk deer population from predators. The possibility of establishing a farm for breeding this animal, which is listed in the Red Data Book of several Russian regions and the IUCN Red List as vulnerable, is also being explored.

For 27 years, a monitoring program for the Okhotsk Sea population of gray whales, a rare, endangered species of marine mammal found in the northern Pacific Ocean, has been implemented in the Sakhalin Region.

The results of many years of scientific research are presented in a series of ecological atlases. Rosneft has published a number of scientific publications on the Company's activities, including those from expeditions. More than 60 indicator species are described in the atlas.Species – bioindicators of the state of marine Arctic ecosystems", published in 2020.

The company actively participated in various events within the national Ecology project from 2020 to 2023. Over 320 million rubles were allocated from 2019 to 2023 for a project to study the dynamics of key species—indicators of the sustainability of Arctic ecosystems.

In 2024, at the XXVII St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Rosneft signed a new agreement with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation on the joint implementation of a number of activities in 2024–2027 under the federal project "Conservation of Biodiversity and Development of Ecotourism" as part of the national project "Environmental Well-Being."

Rosneft, together with the Ministry of Tourism and Health Resorts of the Stavropol Territory, presented a new route for car tourists in the cities of the Caucasian Mineral Waters region – "Pearl of Southern Russia." This is the fiftieth route developed by the Company for Russians traveling by car across the country.

Rosneft actively supports initiatives to develop domestic tourism and creates comfortable conditions for road travelers. Developing roadside services and improving customer service at Rosneft filling stations is one of the Company's priorities.

The "Pearl of Southern Russia" route passes through the four main cities of the Caucasian Mineral Waters region: Pyatigorsk, Yessentuki, Kislovodsk, and Zheleznovodsk. Along the route, tourists will see picturesque terrain paths and healing pump rooms, the site of Lermontov's duel, the Tsander Institute of Mechanotherapy—the forerunner of modern fitness centers—and many other attractions of the region.

The total length of the route is approximately 100 km, connecting 35 of the most popular and significant locations in the Caucasian Mineral Waters and passing through 10 Rosneft gas stations. The route's presentation took place at one of these gas stations, in Pyatigorsk.

The first stop on the route is Zheleznovodsk. This resort town is famous for its mineral springs and attracts tourists with its picturesque nature. A must-see is the Resort Park with its cascading staircase, sculptures, and architectural monuments, as well as the landmark and symbol of Zheleznovodsk, the Pushkin Gallery. The building with a small, graceful dome is located in the Healing Park. Pushkin himself visited Zheleznovodsk in 1820, where the idea for the poem "Prisoner of the Caucasus" was born. Also in Zheleznovodsk, travelers by car will find the Palace of the Emir of Bukhara, a unique architectural monument in the oriental style, whose domes, minaret, ornate balconies, and intricate carvings seem to have stepped straight from the pages of "One Thousand and One Nights."

The next stop is Pyatigorsk. Here, visitors can sample healing mineral water, enjoy the mountain views, and explore Lermontov's sites. For example, Lermontov's House, where the poet spent the last months of his life and wrote many of his famous poems. The house has retained its original appearance. The museum's collection includes unique exhibits, including the poet's personal belongings. In Pyatigorsk, tourists can soak up the atmosphere of the great Russian poet's works and immerse themselves in his life and work by strolling through the Lermontov Gallery, visiting Lake Proval, and taking a stroll through Yemanuelevsky Park.

The third city on the route is Yessentuki. A historical, architectural, and natural landmark, the heart of the Caucasian Mineral Waters resort—all this is the Yessentuki Resort Park. Tourists are invited to stroll along rose-lined alleys, admire iconic sculptures, and sample the renowned mineral water. Those seeking a more relaxing experience can also visit the renowned N.A. Semashko Mud Baths or spend time in the Tsander Institute of Mechanotherapy, a prototype of modern gyms.

The new route ends in Kislovodsk. The city's signature National Park encompasses 966 hectares of unique natural resources on the slopes of the Dzhinalsky Range. The total length of the terrain paths is 24.3 km. The park is home to 900 species of herbaceous plants, 217 species of birds, and 39 species of mammals. Road travelers can also learn more about the history of the resort town and the entire Stavropol Krai at the unique Visitor Center Museum of the Kislovodsky National Park and relax in the famous Narzan Gallery, one of the oldest architectural monuments in Kislovodsk.

The "Pearl of Southern Russia" route is a journey through the most popular and significant locations of the Caucasian Mineral Waters, where natural resources and picturesque landscapes are closely linked to a unique history.
