Rosneft's capital investments in projects to involve associated petroleum gas (APG) in beneficial use in the period from 2013 to 2024 exceeded 303 billion rubles.

Responsible attitude to the environment is an integral part of the corporate culture and one of the key principles of Rosneft's activities. One of the Company's strategic goals is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Rosneft is implementing a whole range of measures aimed at introducing innovative technologies, increasing the level of industrial safety and caring for the environment.

As part of the implementation of the Investment Gas Program, the Company strives to increase the level of rational use of associated petroleum gas in all regions of its presence. In 2024, Rosneft commissioned 9 new facilities that contribute to achieving this goal: gas injection facilities, power generation, gas preparation and use, as well as gas transportation infrastructure. The program is being implemented in all regions of the Company's presence and promotes the widespread introduction of innovative, energy-saving, "green" technologies in production processes.

When developing new fields, Rosneft, already at the stage of drawing up design technological documents, carries out planning taking into account an integrated approach, providing for all the measures necessary to achieve rational use of associated petroleum gas by a clearly defined deadline.

The Company's specialists are constantly working on developing innovations that allow for the optimization and scaling of the process. For example, in July 2025, Orenburgneft employees (part of Rosneft) patented a technology for reducing the content of hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans in associated petroleum gas (APG). The innovation was implemented at the Vakhitovskaya group of fields of the enterprise, which made it possible to increase the volumes of rational use of APG from 20 to 80 thousand m3 per day. The economic effect from the implementation of the innovation will amount to more than 1 billion rubles within five years.

A significant contribution to reducing the Company's carbon footprint is made by the Rosneft Energy Saving Program, which is developed for a five-year period and updated annually. As a result of its successful implementation in 2024, Rosneft ensured a reduction in absolute greenhouse gas emissions in the amount of 1.1 million tons of CO2-eq.

At the same time, the actual savings of fuel and energy resources amounted to 363 thousand tons of equivalent fuel. By 2030, the implementation of the energy conservation program will reduce emissions by 4.7 million tons of CO2-eq.

Rosneft Continues Whale Research

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Rosneft – An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

World Whale and Dolphin Day is celebrated annually on July 23. The date was established to draw humanity's attention to the need to preserve and protect cetaceans and other marine mammals.

Rosneft pays special attention to environmental issues and the preservation of biodiversity. The Company's activities are based on the principle of preserving a favorable environment and biological diversity in all regions of presence. Studying and protecting the population of whales and dolphins is one of the areas of Rosneft's environmental program.

One of the main species that receives close attention is the gray whale of the Okhotsk Sea population. The monitoring program for these whales has been carried out on the north-eastern shelf of Sakhalin Island for almost 30 years. As part of the research, specialists annually conduct a population census, observe the behavior of animals and study their food supply, carry out photo-identification studies, and acoustic monitoring.

Until the 1990s, the Okhotsk Sea gray whale population was considered to be completely exterminated and was classified as a species on the verge of extinction. In 2018, the western gray whale population was classified as endangered, indicating a slow but steady recovery of the Okhotsk subpopulation of gray whales.

In 2019, the Okhotsk Sea populations of gray and Greenland whales were included by the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources in the list of rare and endangered species of wildlife requiring priority measures for restoration and reintroduction. In 2020, the Okhotsk Sea population of gray whales was listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation.

In addition, the Company conducts environmental monitoring of the Okhotsk-Korean population of gray whales on the north-eastern shelf of Sakhalin Island. Specialists annually perform photo identification, population census, and studies of the food supply and behavior of mammals. The main life period of gray whales in the Sea of Okhotsk is fattening and reproduction, so studying the state of their food supply is one of the most important stages of observations.

As part of the study of the Okhotsk-Korean gray whale population, unique acoustic monitoring is also being conducted, which includes recording and analyzing the level of natural and anthropogenic underwater noise. The research allows us to study the nature of sounds and model their propagation. Acoustic measurements are carried out using autonomous underwater recorders developed specifically for the project.

Rosneft is an active participant in the Interdepartmental Working Group under the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation to ensure the conservation of the Okhotsk-Korean population of gray whales. The working group develops proposals for the development of legislation for population management, coordinates the interaction of interested federal and regional executive authorities, the business community, scientific and public organizations.

In 2020, Rosneft, together with the P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, implemented a large-scale project to study and monitor Black Sea dolphins. Based on the results of 3 years of observations, modern up-to-date data were obtained on the number and preferred habitats of these Black Sea cetaceans, and the characteristics of their seasonal distribution. Recommendations for the study and conservation of dolphins were prepared.

Reference:

The gray whale is the only whale species that has mastered bottom feeding. Whales usually scoop up benthos from the bottom along with water, silt and pebbles at a depth of 15-60 m and filter the suspension through their baleen. The gray whale's diet includes up to 70 species of invertebrates, including annelids, bivalves, small crustaceans and young fish.

Gray whales swim slowly – on average 5-8 km/h, which allows marine parasites to cling to the whale's skin and establish their colonies. The total weight of these fellow travelers can reach 180 kg per whale.

Source: Rosneft – An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Specialists from the Rosneft Arctic Research Center, together with scientists from the country's leading research institutes, have summed up the results of the polar bear field season as part of the Tamura corporate biodiversity conservation program. Three expeditions were conducted in the spring to study the Arctic predator population.

Representatives of the Company, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, the A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as specialists from the Biotechnology Campus (BTC) Center for Whole-Genome Sequencing, spoke about scientific work in the north of Krasnoyarsk Krai at a press breakfast.

In 2025, scientists were faced with the task of conducting the first full-scale aerial survey of the Kara subpopulation of polar bears in Russian practice. Specialists made 25 flights, the total length of air routes was almost 24 thousand km. During the expeditions, about 170 thousand photographs were taken, as well as 540 thousand infrared photographs, which will be processed using artificial intelligence.

According to the expedition participants, 8 flights of the laboratory aircraft were made from the village of Sabetta in Yamal for a comprehensive survey of the inner delta of the Gulf of Ob and the southeastern part of the Kara Sea. During the aerial visual observations, 22 polar bears, 23 walruses, 616 seals, 77 belugas, and rare bird species were recorded.

Ten helicopter flights were made from the village of Dikson to survey the ice of a number of islands, as well as the ice in the Yenisei Gulf to Sever Bay and along the northern coast of the Taimyr Peninsula to the mouth of the Uboynaya River. During the work, 37 polar bears of various ages and both sexes were registered. 10 animals were tagged with satellite collars and ear tags for remote tracking of migration routes. Scientists also took samples of the polar bears' fur and blood to study their health and genetic affiliation to a particular subpopulation – the samples are already being studied by BTK specialists. The location of two abandoned polar bear maternity dens and the habitat of the bears' main food source – the ringed seal – were also determined.

Also from the village of Dikson, scientists surveyed the central and south-eastern waters of the Kara Sea. Specialists carried out 7 flights and registered 12 polar bears, 16 belugas and 420 seals. Specialists noted that based on the results of the work, the number and distribution density of polar bears and their food sources in the Kara Sea will be determined.

Rosneft pays special attention to environmental issues and biodiversity conservation and is implementing the largest comprehensive Arctic region study program since Soviet times. The goal of the new Tamura research program, which started in 2024, is to update information on the state of key animal species in the northern region. The Tamura program includes studying the Kara subpopulation of polar bears, wild reindeer populations in western Taimyr, and valuable bird and fish species in the Yenisei estuary. The data obtained will allow scientists to draw conclusions about the state of ecosystems and develop measures to preserve the region's biodiversity. In 2024, scientists conducted five expeditions, and ten expeditions will be held in total over four years.

Statement by PJSC NK Rosneft in connection with the illegal EU sanctions against the Nayara Energy refinery

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Rosneft – An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

PJSC NK Rosneft considers the decision of the European Union to introduce restrictive measures against the Indian Nayara Energy refinery to be unfounded and illegal. These sanctions are another example of the extraterritorial application of politically motivated restrictions that grossly violate international law and infringe on the economic interests of a sovereign state.

Rosneft emphasizes that it is not the controlling shareholder of Nayara Energy – the Company’s share in the authorized capital of the enterprise is less than 50%. The enterprise is managed by an independent Board of Directors.

The EU's reason for imposing sanctions is completely far-fetched and false in content, Nayara Energy is an Indian legal entity whose economic activity is aimed at developing the asset. The company is taxed entirely in India. Nayara Energy shareholders have never received dividends, and the accumulated profits were used exclusively for the development of oil refining and petrochemicals, as well as the company's retail network in India.

The Nayara Energy refinery is a strategically important asset of the Indian energy sector, ensuring stable supplies of petroleum products to the country's domestic market. The introduction of sanctions against the enterprise directly threatens India's energy security and will negatively affect its economy.

Such actions by the EU demonstrate a complete disregard not only for international law, but also for the sovereignty of third countries. Rosneft views these sanctions as part of the EU's destructive policy aimed at destabilizing global energy markets. The restrictions on Nayara Energy are yet another example of the EU using unfair competition practices.

We expect that Nayara Energy will take measures to protect the legitimate interests of its shareholders and consumers, which will be supported by the governments of Russia and India.
