BEIJING, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) — China has reported explosive growth in cruise passenger traffic in the first half of 2025 as sea travel booms, official data released by the Ministry of Natural Resources showed Friday.

According to the agency, the total passenger flow of cruise ships increased by 40.1 percent year-on-year during the reporting period. It is noted that such growth was due to stimulating support measures, improved supply and growing tourist demand.

From January to June 2025, the added value of the marine tourism sector amounted to 771.8 billion yuan (about 108 billion US dollars), up 8 percent year on year.

The ministry also expects cruises and other types of sea tourism to become even more popular as the summer tourist season reaches its peak. –0–

BEIJING, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) — China hopes the Paraguayan government can make the right choice regarding Taiwan that meets the fundamental and long-term national interests of Paraguay and its people, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said Friday.

The Chinese diplomat made the remarks at a regular departmental press briefing, commenting at a journalist's request on reports that Paraguayan Chamber of Deputies (lower house) Vice Speaker Hugo Meza called for a national debate on recognizing mainland China and cutting ties with Taiwan, saying his country was "wasting its time" with the island.

“We have heard similar voices on many occasions, and this position reflects the firm will of the overwhelming majority of the Paraguayan people,” Guo Jiakun said.

He noted that in recent years, more and more people in Paraguay have come to realize that Paraguay can no longer remain an “outsider” in the international community, “turning its back” on China.

"We hope that the Paraguayan government will seriously listen to these calls and make the right choice that truly serves the fundamental and long-term interests of Paraguay and its people," a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

“We welcome more Paraguayan friends to visit China to see its development first-hand, experience the openness and inclusiveness of Chinese civilization, and gain a true understanding of the country,” Guo Jiakun added. –0–

BEIJING, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) — China will continue to take necessary measures to ensure its cybersecurity, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Friday.

The China Cyber Security Association has released details of two cases in which the US government used Germany, the Republic of Korea, Singapore and the Netherlands as staging areas to launch cyber attacks against China.

Answering a question on the matter at a daily press briefing, Guo Jiakun pointed out that the latest evidence of malicious cyber attacks launched by the US administration against China once again confirms that the United States poses the main cyber threat to China.

The spokesman noted that the United States had carried out malicious online activities using its allies in Europe and allies bordering China as springboards. China has consistently held that cybersecurity is a common challenge for all countries and requires a joint response through dialogue and cooperation, he added. –0–

Moscow, August 1 (Xinhua) — The first serial medium-range missile system "Oreshnik" has been produced in Russia, the missile has been delivered to the troops. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, answering journalists' questions.

"We have produced the first serial complex "Oreshnik", the first serial missile, and it has entered service with the troops. Now the series is working," said V. Putin.

On November 22, 2024, at a meeting of the Russian President with the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and missile developers, some characteristics of this missile system were revealed. "Oreshnik" is a mobile ground complex. This is a high-precision weapon. Medium-range missiles hit targets at a distance of 1 thousand to 5.5 thousand km. When launched, they go into near space and develop a speed of several kilometers per second, TASS reported.

“The missiles attack targets at a speed of 10 Machs – that’s 2.5-3 km per second, the modern air defense systems in the world and the missile defense systems being created by the Americans in Europe do not intercept such missiles, this is out of the question,” V. Putin said at the time.

The Russian President noted that several similar systems are being developed at once, so “a whole line of medium- and shorter-range complexes is being formed.” –0–

BEIJING, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) — The combined domestic and overseas tourist flow to the tropical island province of Hainan reached 55.21 million in the first half of 2025, up 8.1 percent from a year earlier, the Hainan Daily reported, citing statistics from local authorities.

According to data from the provincial administration of tourism, culture, radio, television and sports, domestic and foreign tourists spent a total of 118.927 billion yuan in Hainan from January to June, up 8.4 percent year-on-year.

As for the tourism sector of the tropical city of Sanya, according to local authorities, its total tourist flow from January to June this year amounted to about 19.27 million person-times, an increase of 6.13 percent year-on-year.

The share of Russian tourists in the inbound and outbound tourist flow of Sanya in the first half of 2025 exceeded 236 thousand person-times, which is 278.9 percent more year-on-year, according to the Fenghuang border checkpoint at the Haikou main border checkpoint.

Hou Jiangxia, a representative of one of the travel agencies in Sanya, said that her company's weekly tourist flow is about 19,000 people. Guests fly to Hainan from Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and other countries.

"They especially like the sandy beaches, the sea, the blue sky and the white clouds. Hainan is very attractive to them," she emphasized.

Hainan's tourism boom is believed to be largely due to the ongoing optimization of its visa-free policy. China currently has a unilateral visa-free regime for 47 countries, as well as 240-hour visa-free transit for citizens of 55 countries.

A senior official from the Hainan Provincial Bureau of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television and Sports said the impressive performance of Hainan's tourism market in the first half of the year was the result of favorable policies, innovation in tourism products and improved service quality.

“In the next stage, Hainan will strive to provide tourists from all over the world with better, more diverse and attractive tourism choices,” he concluded. -0-

BEIJING, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) — China is shocked by the U.S. sanctions on officials of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and members of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said Friday.

China is disappointed and perplexed by the fact that the United States is ignoring the efforts of the international community to achieve peace, the Chinese diplomat emphasized at a regular departmental press conference.

Recall that the US State Department announced the introduction of sanctions that include denial of visas to PNA officials and PLO members, accusing them of actions to “internationalize the conflict between Palestine and Israel,” as well as “continued support for terrorism, including incitement and glorification of violence.”

The Palestinian issue lies at the core of the Middle East problem and concerns international fairness and justice, Guo Jiakun said, adding that the Palestinian issue is currently at a critical historical juncture.

According to him, the international community, especially the United States, should take an impartial, fair and responsible position, effectively implement relevant UN resolutions and make active efforts to promote a proper settlement of the Palestinian issue, rather than doing the opposite.

China firmly supports the Palestinian people's just cause of restoring their legitimate national rights and supports the Palestinian Authority's effective governance of all Palestinian territories, including Gaza and the West Bank, the Chinese diplomat added.

He concluded that China supports a comprehensive, fair and lasting settlement of the Palestinian issue based on the principle of “two states for two peoples.” -0-
