BEIJING, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) — The Italian musical "Divine Comedy" will be staged at the Beijing Century Theatre from July 31 to Aug. 3 as part of its first tour in China to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Italy.

This cult musical is based on a long narrative poem written by the 14th-century Italian poet Dante Alighieri, which depicts a fantastical journey through hell, purgatory and heaven.

The performance of the musical in China not only symbolizes the revival of a literary masterpiece, but also demonstrates the deepening of cultural exchanges between China and Italy.

Using different musical genres such as rock, pop and opera, the musical amazed audiences in the Chinese capital with a modern interpretation of classic Italian literature.

In addition to Beijing, the musical “The Divine Comedy” will also be performed in the Chinese cities of Guangzhou, Xiamen, Shenzhen, Suzhou, Shanghai and Hangzhou, as well as the Hong Kong SAR, bringing the charm of Italian culture to more Chinese people. -0-

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) — About 3,200 Boeing workers in the U.S. states of Missouri and Illinois went on strike on Monday after contract talks with the company failed.

The strike was called earlier after members of District Lodge 837 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) voted to reject an amended four-year labor agreement with Boeing.

The vote comes after an overwhelming majority of IAM members rejected Boeing's previous proposal on July 27.

“We will be participating in the picket lines to ensure Boeing sees the collective power of workers,” IAM President Brian Bryant said in a statement Sunday.

“They rightly deserve contracts that will provide stability for their families and take into account their professional experience,” said Sam Cicinelli, IAM’s vice president of the Midwest region.

The IAM is one of North America's largest and most diverse industrial unions, representing nearly 600,000 active and retired members in aerospace, defense, aviation, rail, transportation, health care, automotive and other industries throughout the United States and Canada.

Boeing expressed disappointment with the vote. Boeing Air Dominance Vice President and CEO Dan Gillian, who also leads the St. Louis plant, said the company was “disappointed that our employees rejected an offer that included a 40 percent average wage increase and included their requests for flexible work arrangements.”

“The company was prepared for the strike and had fully operational contingency plans to ensure that non-striking employees could continue to support our customers,” he added. –0–

HARBIN, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) — When much of China swelters in the scorching summer heat, the city of Harbin in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province is attracting tourists with a refreshing contrast, offering a cool getaway.

Although the official ice and snow season has ended, the Great World of Ice and Snow theme park in Harbin remains a popular destination. Its indoor pavilion, maintained at minus 10 degrees Celsius, features nine theme zones and 19 feature objects that combine urban culture, artistic creativity and ice innovation.

Tourists can see ice sculpture exhibitions, Asian Winter Games-themed displays and European streetscapes. In addition, simulated snowfall, a giant slide and figure skating performances enhance the immersive experience.

"Harbin residents have moved winter into summer. It's amazing and beautiful. I will definitely tell my friends that Harbin is worth visiting," said Mr. Li from Guangdong Province in southern China.

According to the Harbin Municipal Administration of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism, from January to June this year, the city received about 86.98 million tourists, and tourism revenue amounted to 137.58 billion yuan (about 19.27 billion U.S. dollars), up 17.8 percent and 14 percent year-on-year, respectively.

"Since Harbin's snow and ice tourism has gained popularity, the snow and ice economy has developed rapidly," said Li Zhuomin, deputy head of the department.

The snow and ice tourism boom has created jobs in construction, maintenance, tourism services and catering, stimulating consumption and economic growth, she said.

Harbin's snow and ice economy is experiencing "surges in development," said Wei Pengju, director of the Institute of Cultural Economics at the Central University of Finance and Economics. Its unique resources and lifestyle play a key role in distinguishing the city from other similar destinations. -0-

Small and medium businesses in the Far East received more than 30 billion rubles in state support

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

In the first half of 2025, small and medium-sized businesses in the Far East attracted financing totaling more than 30 billion rubles using the instruments of the participants of the National Guarantee System, operated by the SME Corporation. This is 5% more than in the same period last year. "The Far East has enormous potential for development. And this is not only about the unique natural conditions that allow for the active development of tourism and related industries. Its location makes the region a major logistics hub, as well as an effective platform for cooperation with international partners in industry and trade. Small and medium-sized businesses are one of the drivers here and are already present in all these areas of the Far Eastern Federal District economy. According to the results of the first half of 2025, state support allowed local SMEs to attract more than 30 billion rubles. “About a third of the total volume came from enterprises in the manufacturing industry, logistics, agriculture, tourism, as well as companies engaged in scientific and technical activities,” noted Russian Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov at a meeting with entrepreneurs from Khabarovsk Krai during a trip to the Far East.

As part of the working visit, the minister visited Sakhalin Oblast and Khabarovsk Krai. The volume of financial support under the National Guarantee System for the first six months of 2025 in these regions amounted to 1.26 billion rubles and 3.82 billion rubles, respectively.

"Small and medium businesses in the Far East continue to actively increase the volume of attracted financing with state support for the implementation of investment projects. Compared to the same period last year, this figure has grown by 9%. That is, local entrepreneurs were able to attract more than 9.7 billion rubles for their investment initiatives, which is almost 30% of the total volume concluded under contracts with the support of NGS participants. This suggests that small and medium businesses in the Far East are not only solving problems here and now, but are also ready to work for the future development of the region," said Alexander Isaevich, CEO of the SME Corporation.

The largest increase in the volume of attracted financing was recorded in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) (98%), Amur Region (73%), Chukotka Autonomous Okrug (66%), Magadan Region (26%), and Primorsky Krai (11%).

The National Guarantee System, along with the SME Corporation, includes regional guarantee organizations (RGO) and state (municipal) microfinance organizations (GMFO). Thanks to the financial instruments of the NGS participants, entrepreneurs can attract bank financing using guarantees and sureties when there is no own collateral or it is insufficient. Support for entrepreneurs is provided under a specialized federal project included in the national project "Efficient and Competitive Economy".
