SHENZHEN, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) — Chinese drone giant DJI is entering the smart home cleaning market, unveiling its first line of robotic cleaners on Wednesday, expanding its technological expertise beyond flying devices.

The new product line, called DJI ROMO, combines dry and wet cleaning functions, using the company's proprietary environmental sensing and intelligent route planning technologies originally developed for drones.

ROMO is DJI's first strategic transformation from aerial intelligence to the home cleaning scenario, company spokeswoman Zhang Xiaonan said.

According to her, although the conditions of domestic spaces are different from the air environment, the basic principle remains the same – the use of intelligent navigation, sensory perception and precise control to serve people more efficiently and intelligently. DJI's accumulated drone technology can solve key problems faced by the robot cleaning industry.

According to DJI, the ROMO series is expected to hit overseas markets later this year, but specific launch dates and regions have not yet been disclosed.

According to research firm IDC, global shipments of robotic cleaners will reach 20.6 million units in 2024, up 11.2 percent year-on-year. In the first quarter of 2025, global shipments will reach 5.1 million units, up 11.9 percent year-on-year. Chinese brands Roborock, Ecovacs, Dreame, and Xiaomi account for four of the top five positions in global shipments. -0-

BEIJING, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) — Chinese tech giant Huawei has announced the full open source code of its CANN (computing architecture for neural networks) software toolkit for its Ascend chips, to support users in independently unlocking the chips' deep potential and developing customized solutions.

CANN serves as a bridge between Ascend's high-level artificial intelligence (AI) training systems and chips, allowing its users to access computing power without having to deal with chip-level complexities.

The announcement was made at the Ascend computing industry summit held in Beijing on Tuesday, where representatives from leading AI enterprises, universities, research institutes and Huawei partners launched an open-source CANN ecosystem initiative to consolidate industry efforts, explore emerging AI capabilities and jointly build a thriving Ascend chip ecosystem.

Huawei's rotating chairman Xu Zhijun said computing power remains at the core of the company's AI strategy.

Almost every major company that makes high-performance cards to provide computing power has a similar architecture. However, unlike the closed-source CUDA ecosystem developed by American chipmaker Nvidia for almost two decades, Huawei's CANN has taken a completely different path by going open source.

Huawei told Xinhua that after seven years of development, CANN has made key breakthroughs in computing optimization, communication efficiency, and memory management. It is now able to provide computing power support throughout the entire process of training and deploying AI models.

The release of the open source code for CANN is a recent step by Huawei to disseminate its own technologies to the public. The company has previously published the source code for its HarmonyOS operating system and MindSpore artificial intelligence platform. -0-

Working in a Fairytale: Altair Explores Sochi Park

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

The first student service squad of the Polytechnic University "Altair" has once again set off to conquer the south of Russia. This is already the eighth working season for the guys. The fighters and candidates work in the federal territory "Sirius", where they were in 2021, 2022 and 2023. But this summer they found themselves in an unexpected place – the amusement park "Sochi Park".

Sochi Park opened in 2014 as the first theme park in Russia and an alternative to Disneyland. The park is imbued with the atmosphere of Russian folk tales and consists of several theme zones where fairy tale characters meet: Baba Yaga, Koschei, the Sea Princess, the Learned Cat and their friends.

The fighters and candidates work as amusement ride controllers, amusement restaurant operators, photo service sales clerks, souvenir shops, and fast food outlets. There is even a position of arcade game operator assistant, and all of this is very different from the usual positions of maids, waiters, housekeepers, and kitchen workers for the squad. But still, every day the guys try to provide quality service and perform their duties well.

"In our fourth year, we went to work at Sochi Park. It's great because the work of a maid is monotonous, it's interesting to try something new," said former detachment commissioner Irina Iskortseva. "But for those who came for their first season, I think it's also better than working in a hotel, because you feel like an adult, full-fledged employee: you open the point yourself, communicate with guests, solve problems, close the shift. And I think it's really cool for beginners, especially for those who are working for the first time in their life. It's responsibility and valuable experience working with people."

Half of the work season is already behind us. During this time, the student service team "Altair" managed to gain unique experience and learn a lot from scratch. The students attentively serve guests and try to make their summer trip to "Sochi Park" as pleasant and eventful as possible.

Moscow's Begovaya city railway station under construction is more than 62 percent complete

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

The construction of the Moscow city railway station Begovaya continues on the border of the Khoroshevsky and Presnensky districts. As of today, its readiness exceeds 62 percent. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry Maxim Liksutov.

In 2019, Begovaya station became part of the first Moscow Central Diameter (MCD-1) "Belorussko-Savelovsky" and was improved, but the rapidly growing passenger flow required large-scale reconstruction.

"After the completion of the work, the modern Moscow city station Begovaya will improve transport accessibility for more than 200 thousand residents and those who work in the Begovaya, Khoroshevsky, Presnensky districts. The first stage of construction is almost complete thanks to the round-the-clock work of specialists. Roofing and finishing works are currently underway. The reconstruction of this transport hub also stimulates active residential and non-residential development, and in connection with this, population growth in the surrounding areas. Thus, by 2030, the number of residents and jobs within transport accessibility will increase by 40 percent and will amount to 280 thousand," said Maxim Liksutov.

The construction of the Moscow city railway station began in December 2022. The total development area is 12.2 thousand square meters. The specialists of JSC Russian Railways are reconstructing the complex railway junction in conditions of dense urban development and intensive railway traffic. The work is carried out using a unique technology without stopping transport communications.

After the reconstruction is completed, the station will have two coastal and one island platforms, as well as a three-story heated overground concourse. It will be connected underground to the existing western vestibule of the Begovaya metro station.

Today, active construction of platforms and an above-ground vestibule is underway. Specialists have already completed the installation of the roof over the escalators and concourse and are covering these areas with a fire-retardant composition. A vertical folded roof is being installed over the platforms. In addition, their glazing and installation of lighting systems are ongoing. This year, it is planned to fully complete finishing work on the platforms, the installation of the facade of the bridge section and the southern vestibule of the concourse.

The next stage will see the construction of a northern vestibule, which will be integrated with the metro. The transfer will take place in a warm circuit and will take no more than one minute. In addition, a cross-platform transfer between the Moscow Central Diameters will appear here.

Reconstruction work has begun at the Pererva MCD-2 station

After the completion of the work, a modern Moscow hub will appear on the site of the outdated station, which no longer met the standards of capital transport. It will unite MCD-1, MCD-4 and the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya metro line, as well as ground transport.

How the special project "Time of Opportunities" helps promote business in Moscow

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Moscow Government – Government of Moscow –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Over 2.5 thousand applications have been submitted by Moscow entrepreneurs to participate in the special project "Time of Opportunities" since its launch. It runs from June 1 to September 14 as part of "Summer in Moscow" and is aimed at supporting and promoting business.

The special project "Time of Opportunities" involves entrepreneurs from the catering, services, education and creativity, beauty industry, trade, culture and sports, as well as the hotel business. They prepare special offers: free events, promotions with gifts or discounts from 25 percent. This allows businesses to tell about their brand and attract new customers. Over one thousand participants joined the special project by the end of two months.

The most active are entrepreneurs in the catering sector, who submitted over 700 applications. The service sector is not far behind – over 650. The top three is rounded out by representatives of the trade sector, who submitted over 400 applications.

For example, in Ryabchik Café, for the special project “Time of Opportunities,” they made marshmallows in the form of a rosebud based on seasonal berries — strawberries and blueberries. Until September 7, when ordering any hot dish, guests are given it as a gift. According to the owner of the establishment, the special project is an excellent opportunity for restaurateurs to make a name for themselves and attract visitors without additional financial investments in marketing.

"Our main goal is to surprise our guests, so we have developed an offer that evokes clear associations with summer. Thanks to our participation in the project, people began to search for us on the Internet more often: the number of requests on maps increased by 25 percent. We also received positive feedback from guests about the cuisine and the place itself, everyone especially appreciated our green veranda," said the owner of the cafe, Yegor Ryabchik.

The inclusive massage studio "6th Sense" held an open day as part of the special project "Time of Opportunities" – a lecture on self-massage and facial care and a prize draw were organized for guests. The studio also offers a 25 percent discount on services all summer. According to the founder of the studio, Ksenia Rykova, participation in the special project is a way to attract new clients, break stereotypes about inclusive employees and strengthen trust in the brand.

Vladimir and Svetlana Mikhailenko, founders of the Zarina pizzeria, are holding a series of culinary master classes for children as part of the special project Time of Opportunities. On Saturdays in August, little guests can turn into real Italian chefs for two hours. They will learn how to roll out dough, experiment with fillings, and come up with their own pizza.

"We have created a signature dough recipe, the development of which took more than six months, and we are constantly improving it. For us, participation in the special project is an opportunity to introduce Muscovites and guests of the capital to our product, to show what we are truly proud of, and to contribute to the cultural life of our district and city," said Svetlana Mikhailenko.

Alexey Shubin, the owner of the tea shop "Sir Puer", is convinced that his product is a whole philosophy. Therefore, the entrepreneur decided to hold daily free tastings of puer until the end of the summer.

"Our store offers 200 varieties of tea, mainly from China, Taiwan and India, as well as signature blends that we create ourselves. It is important for me to introduce people to the diversity of tea. The store's guests are happy to take the opportunity to try tea, and the number of online orders is gradually growing. Participation in the special project also helps us strengthen the brand," he noted.

Participants of the special project "Time of Opportunities" are provided with free PR support, assistance in promotion through the geoservices "Yandex Maps" and 2GIS, and are also given a summer "Business Box" – a set of free tools for promoting your business, created by market leaders.

In addition, the 100 most active entrepreneurs who hold the most events will receive a package offer for 100 thousand rubles: business promotion on the social network VKontakte or Yandex, as well as a training course on starting advertising campaigns on the Internet.

To join the special project, you need to submit an application on the portal of its operator – the State Budgetary Institution "Small business in Moscow» (MBM).

"Active Citizens" to Choose Names for Red-Listed Demoiselle Crane Chicks from Moscow Zoo

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

The Active Citizen project has begun vote for names for new inhabitants Moscow Zoo— chicks of the red-listed demoiselle crane.

The story of the birds is similar to the plot of a movie: employees of the Baikal airport in Ulan-Ude discovered a clutch of eggs of a rare bird near the runway. Ornithological engineers reported the amazing find to specialists. The Moscow Zoo immediately offered its help.

A real rescue operation began. Two eggs were placed in a thermal container, and this fragile and valuable cargo was delivered to the capital by plane. In Moscow, the eggs were placed in an incubator, and in early June, chicks were born – a male and a female.

Today, the babies actively interact with the employees of the reproduction center, eat with pleasure and even walk around the enclosure. The crane chicks will learn to fly at the end of the summer. Visitors to the Moscow Zoo can already see the birds.

"Active citizens" will have to name the feathered brother and sister. Zoologists from Ulan-Ude suggest naming them after rivers flowing through the picturesque lands of Buryatia.

Among the options for the male are Barguzin and Vitim, named after the major waterways of Siberia. The names Temnik and Chikoy, which are also tributaries of the Selenga River, are being considered. Another possible option is Irkut, the name of a river flowing through the territory of Buryatia and the Irkutsk region.

The female can be named Selenga after the largest river flowing into Lake Baikal. Alternative options include Turka (another river filling the Baikal bowl) and Oka. Chuya is reminiscent of the right tributary of the Lena, and Snezhnaya is a river that originates in the snows of the Khamar-Daban ridge.

The voting was prepared by the capital Department of Culture and the project "Active Citizen"Its users have already chosen names for many animals, including Papuan Kalao Bird, Malayan bears Masha, Luchik and Zvezdochka, Alpaca Zephyra, hyena Akela, panda Katyusha AndTiger Amur.

Project "Active Citizen" has been operating since 2014. During this time, more than seven million people have joined it, and more than seven thousand votes have been held. Every month, 30 to 40 decisions are implemented in the city. The project is being developed by the State Institution "New Management Technologies" and the capital Department of Information Technology.
