BEIJING, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) — The Chinese-Russian exhibition of young artists "Multicolored World" opened in Beijing on Thursday, marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Great Patriotic War and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Wang Yu, secretary of the Party Committee of the People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries of Beijing, noted that recording history through painting, calling for peace, and promoting cultural understanding is the essence of the exhibition. Young artists from China and Russia express the memory of war and the desire for peace through art, reveal the spirit of the times, and demonstrate youth and creative energy.

He expressed hope that young artists from the two countries will use their brushes to embody images of peace, spread the idea of peace, and write a new chapter of people's friendship between China and Russia on the pages of artistic dialogue.

According to Maxim Chernyshev, Advisor to the Russian Embassy in China, this year, when the entire civilized world is celebrating the 80th anniversary of the great victory over fascism, it is especially symbolic that it is young artists – representatives of the new generation of China and Russia – who have become the conductors of historical memory and continuers of the traditions of friendship between the two countries.

“Their works, filled with deep meaning and emotional power, clearly demonstrate that the connection between our cultures not only remains, but is also receiving new development in modern conditions,” he noted.

The exhibition, which is taking place at the Zhonghua Centennial Monument Museum Complex in the Chinese capital, features 160 oil paintings by young artists from China and Russia – 80 from each side. They were the winners of 460 works participating in the competition, which started in April this year, following an expert assessment and final review by the organizing committee.

Let us recall that the competition, which lasted until mid-June, accepted works by artists aged 18 to 45 from China and Russia on the theme “Peace and Friendship – in Honor of the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the World Anti-Fascist War.” The subjects of the artists’ paintings are related to peaceful development, cultural mutual learning, and Chinese-Russian friendship.

At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, the artists who won prizes in the competition from China and Russia were awarded. Tatyana Yakovleva from Nizhny Novgorod received the third prize from the Russian side for her work “Eternity”, dedicated to her childhood impressions, when her grandfather told her about her great-grandfather, who fought in the war.

According to her, the exhibition is of great significance for strengthening friendship and exchanges between China and Russia. “Each artist shows a piece of his soul in his painting. And you can come and see this soul of each artist, even without knowing the language. Everything is said on the canvas with the help of painting.”

In addition, there is also a parallel exhibition of artworks by young Beijing artists, featuring 51 paintings.

The art event, organized by the Beijing People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the Russian Cultural Center in Beijing and other institutions, will last until August 17. -0-

Mozambique's Foreign Minister Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas visited RUDN University. The main outcome of the meeting was a proposal to create a Russian Language Centre in the republic.

At the beginning of the event, RUDN President Vladimir Mikhailovich noted that more than 13,000 foreign students from 160 countries study at the university, and over 2,500 of them are from African countries. There are 22 Mozambican citizens at the university. These are future architects, geologists, agronomists, builders, economists, doctors, mathematicians, lawyers, specialists in the oil and gas sector and international relations.

During the meeting, the parties paid special attention to the university’s position in the world.

"We are in the top 100 in the areas of chemistry, linguistics, modern languages, and mathematics. Also, RUDN, according to the UI GreenMetric rating, is the greenest university in Russia, and ranks 22nd in the world," Vladimir Filippov, President of RUDN.

Russian language in schools in Mozambique

RUDN and the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mozambique agreed to open a Russian Language Center in the republic. The center is planned to be opened on the basis of the Eduardo Mondlane University, with which our university has been cooperating since 1977. The plans also include promoting the Russian language not only in universities, but also in schools in Mozambique, and facilitating the growth of popularity of Russian education in the republic.

"The RUDN partner educational organization in Mozambique will become a venue for the RUDN Open Olympiad for foreign citizens. We have been holding the Olympiad since 2016, and its winners receive the right to study at the university under the Russian Government quota," Marina Rekets, RUDN Vice-Rector for International Affairs.

At the end of the business meeting, Maria Lukash and Vladimir Filippov exchanged gifts. The head of the Mozambican Foreign Ministry presented the RUDN president with a "50 Years of Independence" badge and a black wood statuette — a symbol of the joint work of the republic and the university. In turn, Vladimir Mikhailovich presented the foreign delegation with a painting depicting the main building of RUDN.

Conversation with students

After the talks, Maria Lucas spoke with Mozambican citizens studying in Russia. They talked about many things: about the life of students in our country, about events in Mozambique and about possible measures to support students in the form of a special scholarship. The head of the Mozambican Foreign Ministry noted that she would discuss the students' initiatives in the Government of the Republic.

"We really liked that many students from African countries, including Mozambique, study at RUDN. Moreover, they receive education in the specialties that are of great interest to us. But we still have to make great efforts to have many more of our students study here. And for those who are already here, my message is: "Return to your country after your studies to develop Mozambique and also to develop the African continent. So that it becomes what we want to see," – Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mozambique.

About the Russian language centers of RUDN

The first RUDN Russian Language Centers opened in 2016 at the Dalian University of Foreign Languages in China and the National Polytechnic School of Ecuador.

In total, the university has opened 24 centers in Jordan, China, Ecuador, Morocco, the Dominican Republic, Lebanon, Namibia, Zambia, Greece, Syria, Pakistan, Nigeria, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, the Central African Republic, and Mali. They conduct Russian language lessons for children and adults, and help those wishing to prepare for studying at Russian universities. They also organize cultural and educational events, where local residents are told about the history and culture of the Russian Federation, and films by Russian and Soviet directors are shown.

Every year, the RUDN Open Olympiad for foreign citizens (graduates of grades 11-12, or bachelor's and master's degrees) is held in educational institutions. It is held in the following areas: computer science, mathematics, physics, Russian language, chemistry, biology, social science, ecology, economics and management, advertising and public relations/journalism/psychology.

In 2025, the Olympiad was organized in online and offline formats. More than 12 thousand people from 129 countries took part in the competition. 1091 people became winners and 391 – prize winners.

The winners of the Olympiad receive the right to study on a budget. Prize winners receive a discount on tuition fees. In case of free budget places, prize winners also have the opportunity to enroll on a budget.
