Rosneft to help restore Russia's only population of Przewalski's horses

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

The Orenburgneft company (Rosneft's key asset in the Volga region), as part of its cooperation with the Orenburgsky State Nature Reserve, has become the official guardian of a Przewalski's horse foal.

The Przewalski's horse is listed in the Red Book of Russia and has the highest, zero rarity status. With the support of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, the only program in Russia to create a semi-free population of the Przewalski's horse has been implemented on the territory of the Orenburgsky Reserve since 2015. The project is supported by the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia and the Government of the Orenburg Region.

The foal taken under guardianship was born on June 12, 2025, on Russia Day. Following a competitive selection among Orenburgneft employees, the animal received the symbolic name Buravka. Due to its consonance with the word "bur", it is associated with the oil industry, and also contains a reference to the character of Russian folk tales Sivka-Burka – a magical horse personifying wisdom and strength.

As part of the ceremonial event, representatives of Orenburgneft were presented with a certificate of trustees and a passport for the Przewalski horse.

The Orenburg Reserve is a specially protected natural area, including natural complexes and objects of special ecological value. Among the representatives of the flora and fauna of the reserve, there are many species that are rare and endangered. Of the total number of animals living in the reserve, 75 species are listed in the Red Books of Russia and the Orenburg Region.

Visitors to the reserve can take a walk along the equipped ecological trail "Breath of the Steppe", observe beautiful steppe animals from a close distance, and also learn about the program for the conservation of biological diversity and the work of the Reintroduction Center (hereinafter referred to as the Center) to create a semi-free population of the wild Przewalski's horse in Russia during excursions. Information stands have also appeared on the territory of the reserve, which tell about the joint work with Orenburgneft.

The cooperation between the Company and the Center will contribute to the improvement of conditions of keeping, feeding and veterinary care of animals, further study of endangered species, as well as the development of ecotourism in the region.

Environmental protection is an integral part of the corporate culture and social responsibility of PJSC NK Rosneft. In the regions where it operates, the Company carries out large-scale activities to restore natural resources, study rare animals and preserve biological diversity. As part of its scientific activities, Rosneft studies animals that are bioindicators of local ecosystems – polar bears, Atlantic walruses, ivory gulls and wild reindeer. The Company also supports programs to preserve the Amur tiger population.

The Przewalski's horse owes its name to the Russian scientist Nikolai Mikhailovich Przewalski, who in 1879 conducted an expedition to Central Asia and discovered a species unknown to science. In the late 1970s, this rare species was on the verge of complete extinction; the Red Book assigned it the status of "extinct in the wild."

The animal was saved by 12 wild individuals from various zoos around the world – the founders of several restored populations. In total, there are no more than three thousand horses on the planet today.

Turkmenbashi /Turkmenistan/, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) — The third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries concluded Friday at the Avaza National Tourist Zone in the Turkmen city of Turkmenbashi. The event, which was held from Aug. 5 to 8, was attended by representatives of more than 30 countries. The participants discussed expanding cooperation and a comprehensive approach to addressing humanitarian, economic, social and environmental problems of landlocked countries.

As UN Secretary-General António Guterres noted, many developing countries face financial difficulties and lack a voice in global financial governance. He called on the international community to create conditions so that developing countries without seaports can also benefit from scientific and technological progress.

The conference participants decided to establish a Group on Landlocked Developing Countries under the auspices of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. This, in their opinion, will allow for more effective solutions to the problems associated with the vulnerability of these countries to increasingly frequent natural disasters.

The conference also endorsed the new Avaza Agenda for Action until 2034, which aims to become a concrete plan for deepening partnerships and creating conditions for sustainable development in the Global South.

There are 32 landlocked countries in the world. Their combined area is approximately 12 percent of the world's land surface and their population is approximately 570 million people. –0–

August 9 marks the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples. Rosneft and its subsidiaries annually implement unique projects in the regions of their operations aimed at preserving national cultures and the traditional way of life of the local population.

Creating favorable living conditions and strengthening the identity and originality of indigenous peoples are significant areas of the Company's social work. Among the indigenous peoples supported by the Company are the Khanty, Mansi, Nenets, Selkups, Evenks, Evens (Lamuts), Dolgans, Yukaghirs, Nanais, Nivkhs and Ulta (Oroks).

In Krasnoyarsk Krai, with the support of RN-Vankor, the regional program for resettling indigenous residents from dilapidated and emergency housing to residential buildings adapted to living conditions in the Far North continues to be implemented. Over the past three years, more than 50 families have become participants.

RN-Uvatneftegaz provides indigenous people of the Tyumen region with fuel and equipment on a regular basis – snowmobiles, boat motors, electric generators, motor pumps and chainsaws. Indigenous families have already received more than 160 units of various equipment, facilitating farming in remote camps. The company also helps them with education in universities and colleges and promotes the improvement of their living conditions.

In the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Taas-Yuryakh Neftegazodobycha is actively involved in the development of the settlement of Botuobuinsky nasleg in the Mirninsky district. With the assistance of oil workers, a multifunctional cultural center is being built in the village of Tas-Yuryakh, which will become an object of public and cultural life. Previously, a kindergarten and a multifunctional school stadium were built for the indigenous people of the region.

Also, with the support of Taas-Yuryakh Neftegazodobycha, the Congress of Reindeer Herders is held every four years – a large-scale event during which participants discuss issues related to the preservation of the traditional way of life, attracting young people to national crafts and other relevant topics. The congress is of great importance for the indigenous peoples of the North, traditionally engaged in reindeer herding – the Evens, Evenks, Dolgans, Yukaghirs and others.

Samotlorneftegaz is implementing a unique project in Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug-Yugra to connect indigenous residents of remote villages to the Internet. Over three years, more than 3.6 thousand residents of Yugra's ancestral lands have already received access to the World Wide Web.

Vostsibneftegaz implements social grant projects for residents of Evenkia in Krasnoyarsk Krai. In 2025, oil workers supported scientific research into fish resources in the Central Siberian Biosphere Reserve, as well as a project by the Siberian Federal University to update the list of rare animal species in the region.

In 2025, Komsomolsk Oil Refinery held a patriotic motor rally from Komsomolsk-on-Amur to the village of Verkhnyaya Ekon in Khabarovsk Krai, where the Nanai people, including war heroes, originally lived. This year, for the 110th anniversary of the village of Verkhnyaya Ekon, Komsomolsk oil workers presented the indigenous people with a festive fireworks display. Komsomolsk Oil Refinery is also implementing the Achambori School of Traditions project in Khabarovsk Krai, aimed at preserving the Nanai language and national sports.

The Company's subsidiaries also provide support for holding significant national holidays of the indigenous peoples of the North, such as Fisherman's Day, Reindeer Herder's Day, Raven Day (a holiday celebrating the arrival of spring), and others. The events are attended by a large number of guests who become familiar with the traditions of the indigenous peoples, learn about folklore, participate in master classes, taste national cuisine, and purchase products of traditional crafts.

CARACAS, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) — The Venezuelan government on Thursday condemned U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi's announcement of a $50 million reward for information leading to the arrest of President Nicolas Maduro.

According to the country's Foreign Minister Ivan Hil, this is a "crude political propaganda operation."

On his social media page, I. Gil stated that the US proposal has neither a legal nor a moral basis and serves the political interests of the far right in the US and Venezuela.

He recalled that Venezuela has repeatedly condemned covert operations and destabilizing plots by the United States, many of which have been thwarted by the South American country's security agencies.

“The paltry award is the most ridiculous smokescreen we have ever seen,” wrote I. Khil, calling the move a media maneuver aimed at distracting attention from the real domestic problems of the United States. –0–
