In a statement, Iraq's Foreign Ministry said it categorically rejected the "escalation plan" that continues Israel's policy of "starving, displacing and massacring" civilians in Gaza.

KHARTOUM, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) — At least 16 civilians were killed and eight others were wounded when paramilitary Rapid Reaction Forces (RRF) attacked a village in western Sudan's North Kordofan state, local volunteer groups said on Friday.

“Yesterday /Thursday/ evening, the SRF attacked the village of Markaz al-Ziyadiya in North Kordofan state,” which also left six people missing, the Sudanese Doctors Network said. The organization condemned the “brutal attack,” stressing that it constituted a full-fledged “war crime” and reflected the SRF’s systematic practice of targeting civilians in Sudan.

In addition, the volunteer “Coordination Committee of Resistance in North Kordofan” confirmed that the RSF attack on the village of Markaz al-Ziyadiya left 16 civilians dead, with several others wounded or taken hostage. According to the organization’s statement, the RSF fighters attacked civilians in their homes and looted their property.

The SBR has not yet commented on the incident.

In recent days, clashes have escalated in the Kordofan region, which includes North, West and South Kordofan states, between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RRF. The latter controls most towns in West Kordofan and is besieging El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan.

The conflict between the government army and the RSF has been ongoing in Sudan since April 2023. The fighting has killed tens of thousands of people and forced millions to flee their homes to other parts of the country or abroad, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis. –0–

Moscow, August 9 /Xinhua/ — The Russian Foreign Ministry confirms that it will revoke its consent for the operation of the Consulate General of Poland in Kaliningrad from August 29, 2025. This was reported by TASS, citing the Director of the Consular Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexey Klimov.

According to A. Klimov, the decision to close the Polish Consulate General in Kaliningrad was communicated to the Polish side on July 11. This was a response to the reduction of the Russian diplomatic presence in this country under a far-fetched pretext and the withdrawal by the Polish authorities of consent for the functioning of the Russian Consulate General in Krakow, he added.

A. Klimov noted that the closure of the Russian consular office in Krakow has led to an increase in the workload of the employees of the consular department of the Russian embassy in Poland and the consulate general in Gdansk.

According to Russian media reports, the Russian Consulate General in Krakow ceased operations on June 27. –0–

BEIJING, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) — The list of goods and articles prohibited and restricted for import and export from the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP) has greatly enhanced the transparency and openness of Hainan's trade management, said Jiang Zijun, spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce.

Jiang Zijun made the remarks while speaking on the latest edition of the China Economic Roundtable, a media discussion program hosted by Xinhua News Agency.

Regarding transparency, he said that the list for the first time comprehensively and systematically specifies the categories of import and export goods subject to existing national prohibitions and restrictions, allowing market participants to clearly and conveniently understand the scope of regulation.

In terms of opening up, the list relaxes some import management measures to meet the needs of Hainan FTA, thereby expanding pilot opening up efforts, Jiang Zijun added.

On December 18 this year, the Hainan PCT will officially launch independent customs operations across the island.

China's Ministry of Commerce published the list on its website last month. -0-

Moscow, August 9 /Xinhua/ – Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will meet in Alaska on August 15, TASS reported on Saturday, citing Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.

"The American side has just announced an agreement to organize a meeting between Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump on Friday, August 15, in Alaska. Ushakov told the media.

According to him, the Kremlin expects that the next meeting of the Russian and US presidents after Alaska will take place on Russian territory. The corresponding invitation has already been conveyed to the American leader. –0–

Yerevan, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) — Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and U.S. President Donald Trump signed a joint declaration in Washington on Friday on a complete cessation of hostilities and the launch of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project. The ceremony was broadcast live by the Public Television of Armenia and on the website of the state news agency Armenpress.

The US President signed the document as a witness, and the heads of Armenia and Azerbaijan, by signing it, confirmed their desire for peace, prosperity and stability.

“This is an extremely important document, and it took a long time to get to this point. For over 35 years, Armenia and Azerbaijan have been in conflict, causing enormous suffering to both peoples. We just left the Oval Office, where we signed major documents and very important elements of an agreement. Armenia and Azerbaijan are committed to a complete and final cessation of hostilities, opening trade and transportation routes, establishing diplomatic relations, respecting each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the US President said.

D. Trump also announced that the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and the United States managed to reach an agreement on TRIPP.

"This will be a special transit zone that will provide Azerbaijan with full access to its territory in Nakhchivan, with full respect for Armenia's sovereignty. Under the agreement, Armenia also establishes an exclusive partnership with the United States to develop this route, which could last up to 99 years," he said.

The United States also signed bilateral agreements with Armenia and Azerbaijan to expand cooperation in energy, trade and technology, including artificial intelligence.

The press secretary of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nazeli Baghdasaryan reported on her social media page that three memorandums of understanding have been signed between Armenia and the United States: “On partnership in the field of developing the potential of the Crossroads of the World project,” “On innovative partnership in the field of artificial intelligence and semiconductors,” and “On partnership in the field of energy security.” –0–
