LOS ANGELES, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) — U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said Sunday that Russia has made "significant concessions" in talks aimed at ending the war with Ukraine.

In an interview with NBC News, J.D. Vance rejected the idea that Moscow is manipulating US President Donald Trump, saying the Russians are being “flexible” on some of their demands.

“I think the Russians have made significant concessions to President Trump for the first time in three and a half years of this conflict,” J.D. Vance said. “They were really willing to be flexible on some of their core demands. They were talking about what it would take to end the war.”

"Of course, they have not yet reached a full agreement, otherwise the war would be over. But we are participating in this diplomatic process in good faith," he added.

“We’re going to continue to do what we have to do to get this done,” J.D. Vance said. “I don’t think it’s going to happen overnight.”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Friday that a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is not planned.

CANBERRA, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) — Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Monday his government will continue to be a "strong advocate" on the world stage for a "two-state solution" to the Middle East conflict.

Speaking on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) on Monday morning, Mr Albanese said Australia would continue to advocate in international forums for a "two-state solution" in which Palestine and Israel could live "side by side in peace and security".

COLOMBO, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) — Special guards have been deployed to the National Hospital in Colombo where former President Ranil Wickramasinghe is undergoing treatment after being remanded in custody on Friday, a Prisons Department official said on Monday.

Seven prison officers and four guards have been deployed to ensure R. Wickramasinghe's safety, prison spokesman Jagath Weerasinghe said.

R. Wickramasinghe was arrested and remanded in custody on charges of misappropriation of public funds. He was initially admitted to the prison hospital and later transferred to the National Hospital in Colombo.

The Russian Orienteering Championship was held in Kazan. It was attended by 85 men and 85 women from 35 regions of the country.
