Dawa Drolma incorporated Xizang folk tales into her design concept and helped more than 30 other local handicraft workshops embark on a market-oriented business path. Today, their products are sold both domestically and internationally.

BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) — Chinese lawmakers gathered on Wednesday for the second plenary meeting of the 17th session of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) to review a series of reports.

The participants heard a report on the audit of the implementation of the Law on Trade Unions. It presented the situation with the practical application of this law, and described the difficulties and problems that arise.

Legislators reviewed a report on the implementation of the national socio-economic development plan for 2025, which assessed its progress as generally satisfactory.

The meeting heard a report on budget execution. The document defined key priorities for budgetary and financial work at subsequent stages, including the use of a more active fiscal policy and comprehensive support for stable employment and stable foreign trade.

The deputies reviewed the reports on public debt management for 2024 and on the supervisory study of public debt management for 2024.

BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) — An award ceremony for the crew members of China's Shenzhou-18 and Shenzhou-19 spacecraft was held in Beijing on Wednesday.

Zhang Youxia, a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, presented medals and award certificates to Shenzhou-18 astronauts Ye Guangfu, Li Cong and Li Guangsu, and Shenzhou-19 astronauts Cai Xuzhe, Song Lingdong and Wang Haoze.

In January 2025, Ye Guangfu was awarded the Second Class Medal for Merit in Cosmonautics, and Li Cong and Li Guangsu were awarded the Third Class Medal for Merit in Cosmonautics and the honorary title of Hero Cosmonaut.

BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) — Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), met with participants of the 2025 International Forum on Friendly Exchanges among Deputies in Beijing on Wednesday.

The NPC Standing Committee chairman stressed that legislative organs have the responsibility to make positive contributions to advancing fair and reasonable global governance and building a community with a shared future for mankind.

BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) — Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun held talks via video link with U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Tuesday.

Dong Jun stressed the urgent need to maintain an open position, maintain contacts and interaction, and build strong and stable relations between the Chinese and US armies based on the principles of equality, respect and peaceful coexistence.

The Chinese minister also pointed out the importance of mutual respect for each other's fundamental interests.

At the same time, as Dong Jun stated, any attempts or acts of intervention aimed at forcibly supporting separatist activities to achieve “Taiwan independence” or using Taiwan to contain China are doomed to failure.

The head of the Chinese Defense Ministry stressed that China is committed to working with other countries in the region to safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea and firmly opposes encroachments and provocations by individual countries, as well as deliberate incitement of conflicts by countries outside the region.

BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) — Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said on Wednesday that cross-Ship consultations and dialogue should naturally be conducted on the basis of the one-China principle, since the mainland and Taiwan belong to one China, and Taiwan is part of China.

At a regular press conference, Chen Binhua commented on the statements of Taiwanese President Lai Qingde, who said that dialogue between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait should be conducted “on equal terms.” As the official representative recalled, from 2008 to 2016, cross-strait talks were resumed based on the 1992 consensus reflecting the one-China principle, resulting in a number of agreements and understandings.

However, after the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) came to power in 2016, its leadership refused to recognize the 1992 consensus, leading to the cessation of interaction and consultation between the two banks, Chen Binhua noted.

He stressed that cross-shore consultations and negotiations can only be resumed if the DPP administration returns to the one-China principle and the 1992 consensus and stops separatist activities to achieve "Taiwan independence." Otherwise, such talk will be empty words.

The future of Taiwan and the well-being of Taiwanese compatriots depend on the peaceful development of cross-strait relations and the reunification of the motherland, Chen Binhua concluded. –0–
