The Ili Ancient Town Cultural and Tourism Zone in Yining, Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, is known as a "folk architecture museum" thanks to the unique appearance of its residential buildings and cultural heritage. In recent years, local authorities have been exploring the potential of intangible cultural heritage (ICH), transforming local representative ICH sites into immersive projects and workshops for tourists. This preserves ICH traditions and boosts the development of cultural tourism.

"We hope that tourists will be able to experience the warmth of traditional crafts and appreciate the depth of intangible cultural heritage through interactive creativity," said Yimulan Pulati, tourism coordinator for the Yining City Kashanqi Folklore Tourism Development Company. He noted that the ancient city of Ili still boasts artisans who make traditional "doppa" skullcaps, "kunqi" leather goods, and "cheleqchi" tin jugs. Representative ICH projects from across Xinjiang have also been brought in. "We hope that tourists will be able to experience the diversity of ICH here and create unique ICH items with their own hands," said Yimulan Pulati.

"The preservation and heritage of ICH in the ancient city of Ili aims to reintroduce traditional crafts into everyday life and integrate cultural memory into the modern era," explained Yimulan Pulati. Through the training of successors and innovative projects that provide hands-on experience, crafts such as leatherworking, horsehide painting, and sand painting flourish in the fusion of culture and tourism, while China's superb traditional culture is transmitted and developed through exchange and mutual enrichment. This helps breathe new life into the ancient city of Ili through the integration of ICH with cultural tourism.

On September 23, at approximately 4:30 a.m. local time, the Istanbul Bridge departed from the Beilun port district of Zhoushan Port in Ningbo, bound for the UK's largest container port, Felixstowe. This marks the official opening of the world's first Arctic express container route between China and Europe.

According to available information, on September 22, the Istanbul Bridge completed loading over 1,000 TEU containers in the Beilun port district of Zhoushan Port. The vessel will travel along the Northern Sea Route (Northeast Passage) directly to Europe. The one-way journey to the port of Felixstowe will take just 18 days. This is a new record, following the launch of the route to the German port of Wilhelmshaven in late 2024, which took 26 days.

The China-Europe Arctic Express Route is a major achievement in realizing the construction of the "Ice Silk Road" under the Belt and Road Initiative and will provide faster and lower-carbon international logistics options for Chinese industries such as high-tech manufacturing, cross-border e-commerce and new energy.

In particular, the total trading volume for the entire year of 2024 was the highest since the start of trading on the country's carbon market in 2021. This was stated in a report on the development of the national carbon market, which was published on Wednesday in Shanghai at the China Carbon Market Conference 2025.

According to the report, China's carbon emissions trading market operated for 242 trading days in 2024, with the average daily carbon emissions trading volume increasing by 43.55 percent compared to the previous contracting period. The total trading volume in the country's carbon market for the entire year reached 189 million tons, with a value of RMB 18.11 billion.

The intensity of carbon dioxide emissions in the country's electricity sector in 2024 decreased by 10.8 percent compared to 2018, the report notes.

In March 2025, based on the implementation of the carbon trading system in the electric power industry, the State Council of the People's Republic of China approved the inclusion of the steel, cement, and aluminum industries in the national carbon trading market.

As a reminder, China has committed to peaking carbon emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. -0-
