BEIJING, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) — The crew of China's Shenzhou-20 manned space mission, aboard the Chinese space station, successfully completed the fourth round of extravehicular activity on Friday, the China Manned Space Administration (CMSA) said.

Three Chinese astronauts – Chen Dong, Chen Zhongrui and Wang Jie – worked for about six hours and completed the mission at 01:35 Beijing time, with the support of the space station's robotic arm and a ground support team.

Chen Zhongrui and Wang Jie, who are responsible for conducting extravehicular activities, installed the space debris protection device and carried out external equipment checks, the CMSA noted.

The CMSA emphasized that this was the first time that two members of China's third astronaut group had performed a spacewalk together.

So far, the Shenzhou-20 crew in orbit has completed four spacewalks, making it one of two Chinese crews to have completed the most spacewalks.

The Shenzhou-20 crew has been in orbit for over 150 days. According to the plan, they will also conduct numerous scientific experiments and technological tests.

Three astronauts will celebrate the upcoming National Day (PRC National Day, October 1) and the traditional Zhongqiu Festival (Mid-Autumn Festival or Moon Festival, which falls on October 6 this year) on China's Tiangong space station, the CMSA said. -0-

WASHINGTON, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday he will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank, a "red line" for Arab leaders as they try to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

"I will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank. I will not allow it. It will not happen," Trump told reporters at the White House. "Enough is enough. It's time to stop," the president added, announcing that he had spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump promised Arab and Muslim leaders he would not allow annexation during a closed-door meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday. This is the key promise in the Trump administration's 21-point plan to end the conflict between Israel and Hamas and establish a governing body for Gaza independent of Hamas, Politico reports.

The new plan was developed in response to increasing international pressure on Israel amid the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The meeting was attended by leaders and senior officials from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Indonesia, and Pakistan.

The Ecology Foundation of the Russian Agricultural Bank will plant nearly 59,000 trees this fall.

September 22, 2025

Rosselkhozbank's Ecology Foundation continues its forest restoration program and will plant nearly 59,000 trees in four regions of the country this fall. In September, 17,500 pine seedlings were already planted in the Irkutsk Region. In October, plantings will take place in the Tyva Republic and Bashkortostan, where another 10,200 and 15,200 pines will be planted. The season will conclude in November in Krasnodar Krai, where 16,000 oak seedlings will be planted in forested areas. "Forest restoration is one of the Foundation's key areas of work. We are consistently implementing the program, and the results are reflected in thousands of new trees across the country. In 2024, 77,500 trees were planted over an area of 27 hectares. In the spring of 2025, another 84,600 seedlings will be planted over an area of 23 hectares. The fall season will add nearly 59,000 new trees. "It's important to us that each such planting is not just a statistic, but a real contribution to the development of sustainable ecosystems and improving the country's environmental safety," comments Elmira Morozova, Director of the Ecology Foundation at the Russian Agricultural Bank. The reforestation program of the Ecology Foundation at the Russian Agricultural Bank is aimed at the long-term restoration of natural resources and increasing the resilience of ecosystems. Regular tree planting helps preserve biodiversity, improve air quality, and maintain healthy soils. These initiatives form the foundation of environmental stability and are an important contribution to the future of regions and the country as a whole.

Vienna, September 26 (Xinhua) — A drone was shot down and exploded overnight near the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant (SUPP) amid the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian conflict, which poses ongoing threats to nuclear safety, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said in a statement Thursday.

The agency's on-site team reported that 22 drones were spotted overnight between Wednesday and Thursday, some approaching within 500 meters of the facility. IAEA specialists added that they heard gunshots and explosions overnight. On Thursday, they visited the site where the drone crashed and saw a crater approximately four square meters in area and about a meter deep.

"Drones are once again flying too close to nuclear power plants, jeopardizing nuclear safety. Fortunately, yesterday's incident did not cause any damage to the South Ukraine NPP itself. We may not be so lucky next time," said IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi. "I continue to urge both sides to exercise maximum military restraint around all important nuclear facilities," he said.

The South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant is one of three operating nuclear power plants in Ukraine. Its three reactors are currently operating at full capacity.

Paris, September 26 (Xinhua) — Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison, suspended. He was found guilty of conspiracy in the Libyan-funded 2007 presidential campaign, BFM TV reported.

The court also fined the politician €100,000 and banned him from holding public office or running for election for five years.

N. Sarkozy reiterated his innocence and promised to appeal the verdict. Two of his closest associates, former Secretary General of the Élysée Palace Claude Guéant and former minister Brice Hortefeux, were sentenced to six and two years in prison, respectively.

According to French media, the court found N. Sarkozy guilty of criminal conspiracy, but acquitted him of charges of corruption and illegal campaign financing.

The case's roots go back to 2012, when investigative website Mediapart published a document alleging that the regime of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi agreed to help finance Nicolas Sarkozy's presidential campaign in 2007. A year later, French prosecutors launched a formal investigation.

UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) — UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday called for global action to reduce deaths from non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and promote mental health and well-being.

As stated in the Secretary-General's speech, delivered at the High-Level Meeting on NCDs by his Deputy, Amina Mohamed, the world is behind schedule in achieving the Sustainable Development Goal of reducing premature mortality from NCDs by a third by 2030.

According to A. Guterres, the costs are enormous – human suffering and reduced life expectancy, as well as reduced productivity, overburdened health systems and deepening inequality.

Every two seconds, someone under 70 dies from a non-communicable disease. Last year alone, NCDs, the leading cause of death globally, claimed the lives of more than 43 million people of all ages. Mental disorders affect more than 1 billion people worldwide, and suicide remains one of the leading causes of death among young people. The UN Secretary-General noted that approximately 2.8 billion people cannot afford a healthy diet.

"These figures are more than just statistics. They reflect reduced life expectancy, loss of livelihoods, and stunted community development. They remind us that NCDs and mental disorders are among the most serious public health and development challenges of our time," he said.

A. Guterres called on countries to strengthen primary health care as the foundation of universal health coverage; to address the social, economic, and environmental determinants, as well as the market forces that shape people's lives; to strengthen mental health and psychosocial care in humanitarian settings; to ensure sustainable financing; to place people living with NCDs and mental health conditions at the center of these efforts; and to deliver on their promises.

"Let's commit to prevention, equity, and accelerated action. Together, we can transform lives, secure livelihoods, and deliver on our promise of health and well-being for all," said Guterres.
