Beijing, September 28 (Xinhua) — A batch of imported goods recently cleared customs and arrived at the border trade zone located at the Tseke Port on the China-Mongolia border. This marks the first batch of goods imported from Mongolia to China in 2025, according to the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region government website.

This batch of imported goods included chocolates, candies, cashmere products, beverages and other goods produced in Mongolia, and their total value amounted to more than 600 thousand yuan.

The Tseke Border Crossing is located in the Ejing District of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in northern China. It is an important transportation hub, trade center, cargo distribution center, and resource channel connecting northwestern China with foreign countries.

Throughout the customs clearance process for this batch of goods, Ejina Customs and the Tseke checkpoint collaborated closely, significantly reducing customs clearance time and lowering importer operating costs.

According to the Tseke checkpoint, construction of the China-Mongolia border trade zone began in 2021, covering a total area of 5,194 square meters and housing approximately 300 trade stalls. The first batch of goods imported from Mongolia was registered in this zone on April 30, 2024.

"As an important platform for promoting China-Mongolia trade and economic exchanges, the border trade zone not only expands business opportunities and increases income for residents in the border area, but also deepens bilateral trade and economic cooperation," said Jiang Yang, deputy head of Ejing Customs, adding that the customs will continue to optimize customs control services to promote the high-quality development of this trade zone. -0-

Moscow, September 28 /Xinhua/ — Dilapidated, filthy tent-like dwellings, streams of sewage, and abject poverty… This black-and-white photo, taken by a Xinhua photographer in the spring of 1959, captures the slums of Lhasa before democratic reforms. The adjacent photograph, from 1987, shows a happy man and woman sitting in front of their white-walled home with large windows. A little further away, a modern digital photograph reveals new neighborhoods of high-rise buildings.

The photo exhibition "A New Chapter in the History of Beautiful Xizang" celebrates the development achievements of China's Xizang Autonomous Region, which celebrated its 60th anniversary in September. The exhibition opened on Friday at the Chinese Embassy in Moscow.

The exhibition features approximately 60 unique photographs from the Xinhua archive. They trace the transformation of life in Xizang. As a result of democratic reforms led by the Communist Party of China, the region has made the leap from a feudal serf society to a socialist one. Railways, multi-level transportation interchanges, modern schools, medical centers, snow-capped mountain peaks, nature reserves, and rows of solar panels—all vividly testify to the enormous successes achieved in areas such as economics, transportation, education, healthcare, tourism, and environmental protection.

Gennady Zyuganov, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF Central Committee), told Xinhua that he has visited many regions of China, but, unfortunately, he had never been to Xizang. "The photographs are not only impressive, they exemplify how, even in such extreme mountain conditions, one can create a modern, exemplary standard of living, how one can build magnificent bridges, roads, and factories, and master all types of modern technology," he said, sharing his impressions of the exhibition and wishing Xizang continued success.

Oleg Belyavsky, Director of the Russian Center for Scientific Information, called the exhibition a very good illustration of the positive changes that have occurred in Xizang over 60 years, both for the population and for the entire region. "This is a very big step forward. The successes in developing transport infrastructure are particularly impressive. At the same time, the centuries-old traditions of the Xizang people, their language, and their culture are preserved. This is always very gratifying, because the diversity of cultures, traditions, and ethnic groups that inhabit China make it practically one of the most powerful states in the world," he added.

According to Ivan Arkhipov, Deputy Chairman of the Russian-Chinese Friendship Society, the photo exhibition about Xizang is not only very interesting but also useful. "We see how much the area has changed over 60 years. The contrast is striking," he said.

The exhibition was organized by the Xinhua Asia-European Bureau and China Image Group with the support of the Chinese Embassy in the Russian Federation. –0–

BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) — During the upcoming eight-day holiday to mark National Day (PRC National Day), which falls annually on October 1, and the traditional Zhongqiu Festival (Mid-Autumn Festival or Moon Festival), which falls on October 6 this year, the average daily number of border crossings at Chinese checkpoints is expected to reach 2 million, the National Immigration Administration of China reported on Sunday.

According to the agency, border crossings and checkpoints across the country are preparing for a sharp increase in travelers in both directions across the border between October 1 and 8, with the peak of cross-border tourist traffic expected on October 1 and 6.

The agency noted that the coincidence of two holidays this year, as well as travel-friendly policy measures such as visa-free entry into the country and the resumption of previously suspended flights, are contributing to the growth in demand for cross-border travel.

To cope with the influx of passengers, the National Administration of Immigration and Border Protection of the People's Republic of China has instructed border control agencies across the country to strengthen monitoring of cross-border passenger flow and checkpoint operations, and to coordinate with other agencies to ensure safe, efficient, and smooth customs clearance at all checkpoints across the country. -0-

Bishkek, September 28 (Xinhua) — A celebratory cultural event dedicated to the 2576th anniversary of the birth of the great ancient Chinese thinker and educator Confucius and Confucius Institute Day was held on Saturday in the assembly hall of Secondary School No. 69 in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.

The event was jointly organized by the Confucius Institute at the Kyrgyz National University (KNU) and Secondary School No. 69 in Bishkek.

In her speech, Jia Jingfang, Director of the Confucius Institute at KNU, noted that the event aims not only to showcase the fruits of the joint efforts of Kyrgyz and Chinese colleagues from the Confucius Institute and all classes and teaching centers, but also to showcase the remarkable achievements of Kyrgyz students in learning the Chinese language, understanding Chinese culture, and their multifaceted talents.

School No. 69 began collaborating with the Confucius Institute at KNU in 2009, and opened a Confucius Classroom in 2012. In an interview with Xinhua, school principal Sairagul Atayeva said that studying Chinese helps students better understand China. Many of the school's graduates have found jobs in Chinese companies or become Chinese language teachers. "The constant expansion of relations between Kyrgyzstan and China provides our children with a valuable opportunity. Our school is ready to contribute to the great cause of friendship between the two countries," she stated.

During the event, students and teachers from various Bishkek schools and the Confucius Institute at KNU performed a variety of shows, including Chinese songs, traditional dances, musical instruments, martial arts demonstrations, and more.

Albina Zhenishova, a tenth-grader at School No. 69, has been studying Chinese for three years. At the event, she and her classmates performed an excerpt from the cantata "Yellow River." "I'm very happy to participate in today's event," she said, admitting that Chinese is a very difficult but interesting language. "I hope I'll have the opportunity to study and work in China," Zhenishova noted.

GUIYANG, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) — The world's highest bridge in southwest China's Guizhou Province opened to traffic on Sunday morning, cutting travel time across a gorge from two hours to just two minutes after three years of construction.

The Huajiang Gorge Bridge, rising 625 meters above the Beipan River in the Guizhou mountain region, is nearly nine times taller than San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge.

The bridge, with a main span of 1,420 meters, also became the world's longest-span steel truss suspension bridge built in a mountainous area, provincial authorities said.

The 2,890-metre-long structure, which spans the Huajiang Gorge, known as the "crack in the earth", is the latest link in the rapidly expanding infrastructure network of the world's second-largest economy.

The Beipan River Bridge, previously considered the highest in the world, is located just over 100 km from the Huajiang Gorge Bridge. The previous record-holder, which opened to traffic in 2016, had a vertical clearance of 565.4 meters between the bridge deck and the river surface.

Over the years, more than 30,000 bridges have been built in the mountainous region of Guizhou, one of China's least developed provinces, three of which are the tallest in the world. About half of the top 100 tallest bridges in the world are located in this Chinese province.

WASHINGTON, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday he would send troops to Portland, Oregon, to fight "domestic terrorists."

“I am directing Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to provide the necessary troops to protect war-torn Portland and all our ICE facilities under attack by Antifa and other domestic terrorists,” Trump wrote on social media.

Portland Mayor Keith Wilson said in a statement in early September that, like other mayors across the country, he had not asked for or needed “federal intervention.”

On Saturday, Wilson said that "the number of troops needed in Portland or any other American city is zero" after Trump ordered "essential troops" to be deployed to the city.

Earlier, D. Trump deployed troops to Los Angeles and Washington, which sparked protests. –0–

Suifenhe, Heilongjiang Province, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) — A project to upgrade and modernize the railway section from Suifenhe in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province to the national border of the Harbin-Suifenhe Railway, an important part of the "eastern corridor" of China-Europe rail freight routes, was completed on Saturday.

Thus, the operation of China-Europe freight trains running through the Suifenhe railway checkpoint will continue on the modernized line, which will increase the speed of trains on it from 55 km/h to 120 km/h, and more than double the throughput capacity.

The Harbin–Suifenhe Railway, with a history spanning over 100 years, is Heilongjiang Province's largest rail transport corridor to Russia. The city of Suifenhe is located in the central zone of the Northeast Asian Economic Circle.

The aforementioned project, launched in May 2024 by the Harbin branch of China Railways, includes the construction of a tunnel, three bridges, and six roadbeds. Its commissioning will further expand cross-border transportation capabilities and improve railway safety.
