BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) — Heavy rain is expected in southwest China during the upcoming eight-day National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays, while snow is expected on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and northern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the National Climate Center said Sunday.

Xiao Chan, deputy director of the center, announced at a press conference that heavy rains or downpours will hit parts of Sichuan, Shaanxi, Hubei, Henan, Shandong, Jiangsu and Anhui provinces, as well as Chongqing, from October 1 to 6.

During the holidays, moderate to heavy snowfall or sleet is expected in places along the Tianshan Mountains in Xinjiang, in eastern and southern Qinghai Province, and in eastern and southwestern Xijiang, with blizzards possible in some areas of southwestern Xijiang.

According to Xiao Chan, a strong cold front is expected to cover most of the country from October 5 to 7, causing temperatures to drop by 4 to 8 degrees Celsius.

Vladivostok, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) — Tiger Day was celebrated in Vladivostok, the capital of Russia's Primorsky Krai, on Sunday.

In the morning, children and adults in striped suits and themed face painting gathered on the Sports Harbor embankment to take part in the "tiger parade," try their hand at various workshops, and watch a concert.

The procession began at noon. Around 70 teams, comprising approximately 2,500 people, signed up to participate in the marching column competition. Participants created colorful tiger-themed costumes, crafted 3D tiger figures, sewed costumes, and learned themed chants.

SANYA, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) — Sanya City in southern China's Hainan Island Province is on high alert as Typhoon Bualu, the 20th typhoon of the year, approaches.

Earlier, at 9:00 pm on Saturday, Sanya city authorities activated a Level 2 flood and typhoon emergency response mode.

Typhoon Bualoi was raging in the South China Sea at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, 205 kilometers south of Sanya. Maximum winds near its epicenter reached 32.7 m/s, the Hainan Provincial Meteorological Service reported.

According to the Sanya Municipal Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Relief Committee, all aircraft arrivals and departures were suspended at Sanya Fenghuang International Airport from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday.

As of 1:00 a.m. Sunday, a total of 36,842 people had been evacuated in the city. Kindergartens and schools were temporarily closed in several cities and counties in Hainan Province.

Currently, more than 6,600 rescuers and two rescue ships have been mobilized in Sanya.

Forecasters predict Typhoon Bualoi will move northwest at speeds of 25 to 30 km/h. It is expected to pass near the southern coast of Hainan Island on Sunday afternoon and reach coastal areas of north-central Vietnam by evening.

Due to the typhoon, rainfall exceeded 50 mm in 125 townships and villages, 17 cities and counties in Hainan Province. In the village of Lasite, Altay City, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, 71-year-old Slanbek Shahesh carefully sands a birch board to make fur skis. He has been practicing this ancient craft for over half a century. "I learned the craft from my father since I was 15 or 16 years old. On September 26, a gala reception was held in Beijing to mark the opening of the Russian Cultural Center in its new building. The event was organized by the Rossotrudnichestvo Representative Office in China jointly with the Russian Embassy in China.
