BEIJING, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) — The business performance of China's state-owned enterprises and state-owned holding companies improved in the first eight months of 2025, official data showed Monday.

The combined operating revenue of these enterprises rose 0.2 percent year-on-year to 53.96 trillion yuan (about $7.59 trillion) during the period, an improvement from the January-July 2025 period, according to China's Ministry of Finance.

The combined profits of these companies fell 2.7 percent year-on-year to 2.79 trillion yuan in the January-August period, slowing from the 3.3 percent decline recorded in the first seven months of this year.

CHONGQING, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) — The character "yong," meaning "eternal," was announced as the year 2025 character for the Belt and Road Initiative in Yongchuan District of southwest China's Chongqing City on Sunday.

The event to select the annual character was organized by the China Public Relations Society (CPRS) and the Yunchuan District Government. The list of nine "candidate characters" also included "kai" (openness), "lian" (interaction), "wen" (stability), and others.

Beirut, September 29 (Xinhua) — Iran is ready to provide support to Lebanon at all levels, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani said Sunday at a meeting with Lebanese Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem.

XICHANG, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) — China on Monday launched two new experimental satellites from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest Sichuan Province.

The Shiyan-30 01 and Shiyan-30 02 satellites were launched at 11:00 Beijing Time by a Long March-2D carrier rocket and successfully placed into their designated orbits.

The satellites will be primarily used for experimental testing of Earth observation technologies.

The 20th Wuqiao International Circus Arts Festival opened on September 28 in Wuqiao County, Cangzhou City, Hebei Province, northern China. Minsk, September 29 (Xinhua) — The Chinese Cultural Center in Minsk hosted a poetry evening on Friday, titled "Under the Same Sky at This Time – A Poetry Evening of the Mid-Autumn Festival." Around 150 Belarusian enthusiasts of Chinese culture attended, celebrating the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival.

The event was jointly organized by the Chinese Cultural Center in Minsk and the Confucius Institute at the Belarusian State University of Foreign Languages.
