WUHAN, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) — Five people were killed and eight others were injured in a traffic accident in central China's Hubei Province on Saturday, the Lichuan City Public Security Bureau said Sunday.

The accident occurred around 5:00 PM in Wangying, a town in the aforementioned city. A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver, a 54-year-old woman surnamed Xiong, confused the gas and brake pedals.

GUANGZHOU, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) — More than 150,000 residents in southern China's Guangdong Province have been evacuated as Typhoon Matmo approaches, prompting the country's emergency response to the disaster to be stepped up.

On Sunday morning, the Guangdong Provincial Flood Control Headquarters upgraded its typhoon response from Level 2 to Level 1. By Saturday evening, a total of 151,352 residents had been relocated, including 9,916 from offshore areas.

LISBON, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) — More than 3,000 people gathered in central Lisbon on Saturday to express solidarity with the Palestinians and demand the release of three Portuguese citizens detained by Israel after attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Police reported that the turnout significantly exceeded organizers' expectations. While approximately 500 people were expected to attend, the event ultimately reached approximately 3,000.

New York, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) — Illinois Governor J. Robert Pritzker said Saturday that President Donald Trump will send 300 National Guard troops to Chicago despite his repeated refusal to place his state's National Guard under federal control.

J.R. Pritzker reported on social media that the Trump administration had given him an ultimatum: "Call in your military, or we will."

"The Trump administration intends to transfer 300 Illinois National Guard troops to federal control in the coming hours," the governor said.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) — Israel has temporarily halted bombing of the Gaza Strip to allow for the release of hostages and the completion of a 20-point peace deal, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social on Saturday.

“Hamas must act quickly or all will be lost,” he wrote in a post on Truth Social. “I will not tolerate delays… Let’s do this, FAST.”

In a separate post on Saturday, the president said that after negotiations, Israel had agreed to the initial withdrawal line that was shown to Hamas.

"When Hamas confirms, the ceasefire will take effect immediately, the exchange of hostages and prisoners will begin, and we will create the conditions for the next phase of the withdrawal," he added.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he hoped to announce the release of all hostages in Gaza "in the coming days." He also announced that he had sent a delegation to Egypt, where indirect talks with Hamas will continue on Monday, "to finalize the technical details."

Tripoli, October 5 (Xinhua) — At least three Libyans were killed in a boat explosion on Sunday evening off the coast of Zawiya, approximately 60 kilometers west of the Libyan capital, Tripoli, the Libyan newspaper Al-Marsad reported.

Cairo, October 4 (Xinhua) — Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atty and Palestinian Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh discussed the developments in the US ceasefire proposal in the Gaza Strip by phone on Saturday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry reported.
