BEIJING, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) — A think tank report released Friday highlighted the great significance of the Chinese people's resistance against Japanese invaders and their contribution to the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War.

The report, titled “Historical Retrospect, Upholding Justice – The Great Contribution of the Main Theater of War in the East to the World Anti-Fascist War,” was published in Chinese and English by the Xinhua Institute, a think tank affiliated with the news agency of the same name.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. On Wednesday, Beijing held grand commemorative events, including a large-scale military parade.

BEIJING, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) — When the Great Patriotic War began in June 1941, the China theater of the World Anti-Fascist War tied down about 70 percent of the 2.74 million Japanese troops sent abroad, hampering the Japanese army's "move north" strategy and holding back its plan to invade Siberia, a report said Friday.

The report, titled "Historical Retrospect, Upholding Justice – The Great Contribution of the Main Theater of War in the East to the World Anti-Fascist War," was jointly prepared by the Party History and Documentation Research Institute of the CPC Central Committee and the Xinhua Institute, a think tank affiliated with the Xinhua News Agency.

According to the report, the Chinese National War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression tied down Japan's armed forces, interrupted direct cooperation between the fascist forces of Germany, Italy and Japan, and thwarted the plans of Japan and the fascists of Germany and Italy for global domination, which provided powerful support and coordination in other theaters of anti-fascist military operations.

China's protracted war gave anti-fascist countries such as the Soviet Union, the United States and Great Britain valuable time to prepare for war, and China provided them with vital material assistance.

The Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was not only to save the country but also to fulfill its great responsibility in the world anti-fascist front. This fact clearly demonstrates the selfless support China has given to other theaters of war around the world in strategic coordination, military assistance, and material resources. -0-

YINCHUAN, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) — Representatives of the government of Kazakhstan's Atyrau region and enterprises of northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region (NHAR) signed a memorandum of cooperation in combating desertification in Yinchuan City (NHAR administrative center) on Thursday. For the China-Central Asia Cooperation Center to Prevent and Combat Desertification, which opened in July this year in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, this event was the first experience of bilateral cooperation in this area.

Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is the only provincial-level region in China that has the status of a model zone for preventing and combating desertification. The above-mentioned center began operating under the Forestry and Grassland Administration of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Its establishment is one of the important steps in implementing the results of the 2nd China-Central Asia Summit and is intended to contribute to the construction of the green Belt and Road.

In July of this year, this department organized a study tour of representatives of relevant enterprises to Kazakhstan, during which the government of Atyrau region expressed a firm intention to cooperate.

Deputy Akim of the Atyrau region of Kazakhstan Nurtayev Kairat Talapovich is on a visit to NHAR from September 3 to 6 this year at the head of a delegation to study and adopt the experience of the autonomous region in combating desertification. During the visit, 2 memorandums of cooperation were signed with three local enterprises in the following areas: combating desertification, reconstruction of urban drainage systems and modernization of treatment facilities.

It is reported that about 65 percent of the total area of the Atyrau region is desert land, and about 40 percent of agricultural land is subject to salinization of varying degrees of severity. The deputy akim is confident that, based on the signed documents, the parties will jointly implement a number of large projects, and declared their readiness to provide comprehensive support. -0-

China suffered enormous losses in the World Anti-Fascist War, and the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression made an indelible contribution to the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War. This history should always be remembered.

Nicaraguan presidential adviser Laureano Ortega said: "We are honored to be able to pay tribute to the enormous sacrifices made by the Chinese people. It was a great sacrifice for all of humanity. At that time, the sacrifice and great struggle of the Chinese people against Japanese aggression and fascism were necessary for the final victory over the fascist forces. This must be remembered and the memory of this history must be preserved forever. China's holding of commemorative events on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Victory has an extremely important symbolic meaning.

Benjamin Poghosyan, Senior Research Fellow at the Armenian Institute of Applied Politics, believed that since the early 1930s, China had been waging a difficult and intense war of resistance against the Japanese invaders. The Chinese people stubbornly resisted and made enormous sacrifices, making an indelible contribution to the final victory of humanity over the fascist forces. We must always remember the great Victory won by China and the countries of the anti-fascist coalition. History should not only be remembered, but also learned from.
