PARIS, July 5 (Xinhua) — War is not a solution to the Iranian nuclear issue, and preemptive strikes obviously have no legitimacy, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said on Friday, stressing that force will not bring true peace.

He made the statement here at a joint press conference with his French counterpart Jean-Noël Barrot.

Asked about the situation in the Middle East, Wang Yi said the recent military conflict between Israel and Iran should not be repeated. He stressed that the abuse of military force will only lead to new conflicts and the accumulation of more hatred. CHENGDU, July 6 (Xinhua) — Four people were missing after mudslides hit southwest China's Sichuan Province on Friday, local authorities said Saturday.

The geological disaster prevention and control headquarters of Danba County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, said the earthquake hit two villages in the county at around 5:50 p.m. on Friday, after the entire county had been battered by heavy rain since Wednesday.

The water that accumulated in the mountains first led to a flood, and then to mudflows that damaged houses, flooded agricultural land, cut off telecommunications and power supplies, blocking some roads.

County authorities immediately launched emergency response modes for geological disasters and floods.

BEIJING, July 6 (Xinhua) — The China-Central Asia Media Salon with the leitmotif "Beauty in Harmony – Harmonious Ili" was held recently at the China-Kazakhstan International Center for Boundary Cooperation "Khorgos" located in the city of the same name in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR, northwest China).

Baku, July 5 /Xinhua/ — The 14th International Silk Road Music Festival has opened in the ancient Azerbaijani city of Sheki, becoming an important event in the country's cultural life, AZERTAC news agency reported.

ISLAMABAD, July 5 (Xinhua) — Heavy monsoon rains and flash floods in Pakistan have killed at least 66 people and injured 127 others since June 26, Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said on Saturday.

The NDMA reported two more deaths and 10 injured due to rains in the past two days as extreme weather continues to rage in parts of the country.

The highest toll was reported in northwestern Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where 24 people, including 11 children, were killed, according to the NDMA. Fourteen of them were swept away by flash floods in Swat last week.

In Punjab province, east Pakistan, 22 people, including 11 children, were killed by collapsed houses and flash floods triggered by heavy rains. Sindh province reported 15 deaths and Balochistan province five. Three people were also injured in Jammu and Kashmir.

Amid continuing heavy rainfall, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast increased rainfall and thunderstorms in several areas over the next 48 hours. –0–

Yerevan, July 5 (Xinhua) — Armenia celebrated the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the country's constitution on Saturday. A festive event was held at the Alexander Spendiaryan National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater in Yerevan with the participation of the Armenian leadership, representatives of the legislative and executive authorities, as well as diplomatic missions.
